एयर इंडिया के प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि आज से मेट्रो सेक्टर के लिये टिकटों की बिक्री शुरू कर दी गयी है। हालांकि दूसरी घरेलू उडानों के लिये टिकटों की बिक्री रविवार तक स्थगित रहेगी। आज भी एयर इंडिया की उड़ानें प्रभावित रहीं। ३२० उड़ानों में से केवल ४० उड़ानें ही संचालित हो सकी। अब तक सात हड़ताली पायलटों को बखर्ा्रस्त किया जा चुका है और छह को निलंबित कर दिया गया है। अनुमान है कि हड़ताल से एयर इंडिया को २६ करोड रूपये रोजाना का नुकसान हो रहा है।
दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने मंगलवार को आइसीपीए के नौ पदाधिकारियों के खिलाफ न्यायालय की अवमानना के नोटिस जारी किये। उच्च न्यायालय ने इन्हें हड़ताल खत्म करने के निर्देश दिये थे। इसी महीने की २५ तारीख को मामले की फिर सुनवाई होगी। अन्य मांगों के अलावा पायलट हडताल के दौरान अपने साथियो्र की बर्खास्तगी, निलंबन और स्थानांतरण वापस लेने की मांग कर रहे हैं।

असम सरकार ने तीन दिन और राजस्थान सरकार ने दो दिन के राजकीय शोक की घोषणा की है। स्वर्गीय दोरजी खांडू का पार्थिव शरीर लुगुतांग के निकट दुर्घटना स्थल से भारतीय वायुसेना के विमान से ईटानगर लाकर मुख्यमंत्री आवास पर रखा गया है। इसे कल तवांग ले जाया जाएगा।
राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटील, उपराष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद अंसारी और प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने श्री खांडू के निधन पर शोक व्यक्त किया है। केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने आज नई दिल्ली में आपात बैठक में प्रस्ताव पारित करके श्री दोरजी खांडू की सेवाओं की प्रशंसा की। इसमें कहा गया है कि श्री खांडू ने केंद्रीय और राज्य स्तर की योजनाओं के बीच तालमेल बनाए रखने में मदद की। प्रस्ताव में यह भी कहा गया है कि प्रधानमंत्री के पैकेज और अरूणाचल प्रदेश में राजमार्गों के निर्माण की योजनाओं पर तेजी से अमल के लिए श्री खांडू के प्रयासों से परियोजनाओं को समय पर पूरा करने में बहुत मदद मिली।

न्यायालय ने इस मामले से संबंधित फाइलों के शहरी विकास विभाग से लापता होने की जांच की उपेक्षा करने के लिए सी बी आई को फटकार लगाई है। उसने सी बी आई को निर्देश दिया है कि वह इस बारे में एक और प्रगति रिपोर्ट अगले महीने की २२ तारीख तक दाखिल करे। न्यायालय ने इमारत में बिजली और पानी आपूर्ति बहाल करने की, आदर्श सोसायटी के सदस्य-सेवारत ब्रिगेडियर ए सी चोपड़ा की मांग का आवेदन भी खारिज कर दिया है।

मुंबई शेयर बाजार सेंसेक्स २५९ अंक घाटे के साथ १८ हजार २११ पर बंद हुआ। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी ७७ अंक घटकर पांच हजार ४६० पर आ गया।एक डॉलर की तुलना में रुपया २९ पैसे कमजोर होकर ४४ रुपया ७६ पैसे पर आ गया। दिल्ली सर्राफा बाजार में सोना ३१० रूपये घटकर २२ हजार ३४५ रूपये प्रति दस ग्राम जबकि चांदी चार हजार चार सौ रूपये कम होकर ५९ हजार २०० रूपये प्रति किलोग्राम पर फिसल गई। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाजार में कच्चे तेल की कीमत ६४ सेंट कम होकर १०८ डॉलर साठ सेंट प्रति बैरल पर आ गई।
उन्होंने कहा कि दोनों देश तीस्ता नदी के पानी में हिस्सेदारी का संतोषजनक समाधान निकालने के लिए भी काम कर रहे हैं।
पूर्वी बंगलादेश को त्रिपुरा से जोड़ने के लिए रेल नेटवर्क स्थापित करने के उपाय भी किए जा रहे है। श्री मित्र ने बताया कि अखुआड़ा से अगरतला तक प्रस्तावित रेल मार्ग के अलावा सबरूम से रामगढ़ के बीच पटरी बिछाने की भी योजना है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि इस रेलमार्ग के लिए दोनों देशों ने फेनी नदी पर पुल बनाने का भी फैसला किया है।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने गुजरात में २००२ के दंगों के दौरान अहमदाबाद में पूर्व कांग्रेस सांसद एहसान जाफरी और अन्य लोगों के मारे जाने के मामले में मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी की कथित भूमिका के बारे में विशेष जांच दल द्वारा रिकार्ड की गई गवाहियों की स्वतंत्र छानबीन की बात कही है। न्यायमूति डी के जैन, पी. सदाशिवम और आफताब आलम की विशेष पीठ ने इस मामले में अदालत की सहायता कर रहे वरिष्ठ एडवोकेट राजू रामचंद्रन से कहा है कि इन गवाहों के बयानों, टिप्पणियों और सूचनाओं का विश्लेषण करें। अगर जरूरत हो तो इन गवाहों से बातचीत करके वे अपना निष्पक्ष आकलन प्रस्तुत करें। पीठ ने कहा है कि अगर श्री रामचंद्रन को किसी गवाह के बयानों में दम लगे तो वे अपनी रिपोर्ट में उसका नाम भी बताएं। उन्हें ये रिपोर्ट आठ हफ्तों के अंदर देने को कहा गया है।-----
उच्चतम न्यायालय ने टू-जी स्पैक्ट्रम घोटाले से जुड़े कर चोरी के मामले में आयकर विभाग की जांच में धीमी प्रगति पर नाराजगी जाहिर की है। न्यायालय चाहता है कि जांच के परिणाम सामने आने चाहिये। न्यायमूर्ति जी.एस. सिंघवी और न्यायमूर्ति ए.के. गांगुली की पीठ ने विभाग को विस्तृत रिपोर्ट सौंपने का निर्देश दिया है। अदालत जानना चाहती है कि इस मामले में शिकायत मिलने और नीरा राडिया की टेलिफोन पर बातचीत को टैप करने करने के बाद पिछले तीन वर्ष में विभाग ने क्या कार्रवाई की। दूसरी ओर आयकर विभाग ने अपनी मौजूदा कार्रवाई को यह कहते हुए उचित बताया कि जांच पड़ताल का काम पांचवे चरण में पहुंच गया है और इस मामले में ढील नहीं बरती गई है।-----

The Government will continue talks with striking Air India Pilots tomorrow to sort out the unresolved issues in a bid to end the 9-day-long stir. They held two rounds of talks today after government invited the agitating pilots for discussions yesterday. It constituted a two member committee headed by the joint secretary in the Civil Aviation Ministry Prashant Shukul to hold the talks with the representatives of the Indian Commercial Pilots Association spearheading the agitation. Both the government and the pilots maintain that parleys are moving in the right direction and expressed hope that a resolution to the agitation may emerge soon. An Air India spokesman said that the national carrier has opened bookings for Metro sectors from today. Bookings for other domestic sectors will continue to be suspended till Sunday. Air India services continued to remain crippled today with the airline managing to operate only 10 per cent of its services which is about 40 of its daily 320 flights. The national Air Line, which has sacked seven pilots and suspended six others, is suffering an estimated operational loss of 26 crore rupees per day on account of the stir. Delhi High Court on Tuesday slapped contempt notices on nine office bearers of the de-recognized ICPA for disobeying its order to call off the strike. It would take up the matter again on 25 of this month. Apart from meeting their demands, the pilots are seeking revocation of sackings, suspensions and transfers during the strike period.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu who died in a chopper crash near Tawang will be given a state funeral. His last rites will be performed at his native place Tawang tomorrow. A Home Ministry statement in New Delhi said, all Central government offices in the state will remain closed tomorrow. The Prime Minister and the Congress President will go to Itanagar to pay their last respects to the 56-year-old Arunachal leader. The Arunachal government has announced a seven days state mourning beginning today as a mark of respect to Dorjee Khandu. The Assam Government has declared a three-day State mourning and Rajasthan government a two day state mourning in the honor of Dorjee Khandu. The mortal remains of Dorjee Khandu was brought to Itanagar from the crash site in an IAF helicopter this afternoon. As the demise of the Chief Minister has been confirmed, the focus is now on who his successor will be. Since this evening, the Union Ministers and state legislators have been holding closed door meetings. The Supreme Court today sought an independent overview of the evidence recorded by the SIT into the alleged role of Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi and others in the killing of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri in Ahmedabad during the 2002 riots. A special bench comprising justices D K Jain, P Sathasivam and Aftab Alam asked senior advocate Raju Ramachandran, who is assisting it as an amicus curaie in the riot cases, to analyze the report, comments and statements of the witnesses and, if needed, interact with them to give an objective assessment of the evidence. It said if the amicus curaie, on examining them, comes to the conclusion about the culpability of any person in the case he would be at liberty to mention the names in the report which has to be filed within eight weeks.

The Apex Court today expressed displeasure over the tardy pace of the probe by the Income Tax department into the tax evasion cases linked to 2G spectrum case, saying it wanted results. A bench of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly directed the department to file a detailed report on action taken by it during the last three years when it got a complaint in this regard and began tapping corporate lobbyist Niira Radia's telephone. The IT department, however, defended its ongoing probe saying that the investigation has entered the fifth layer and the approach towards the case has not been tardy. The court, however, was not satisfied and said, it was not concerned about layers but results. The bench allowed the IT department to approach the special judge, trying the 2G case, to interrogate company officials who are in judicial custody for their alleged role in the scam.

The Bombay High Court today deferred the hearing in the Adarsh Housing Society scam till next month. However, the division bench of Justices Ranjana Desai and R G Ketkar directed the CBI to record the statements of suspects regardless of their status. Hearing a petition in this regard, the court asked the CBI to conduct an independent probe and not shy away from questioning Shushil Kumar Shinde and Ashok Chavan, if they think it is necessary. Meanwhile, the court rapped the CBI for neglecting the probe into the files related to Adarsh that have gone missing from the Urban Development Department.

In a setback to the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court today struck down its controversial decision to hold partyless civic polls in the state. The order, which comes barely a few months ahead of local bodies' polls, was passed by a division bench on a PIL filed by People's Union for Civil Liberties. The petition challenged the state government's decision, published in the official gazette as ultra vires of the constitution.

The campaigning for fifth phase of assembly elections in West Bengal came to an end this evening. Polling for this phase will take place in 38 seats covering parts of West Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan districts on Saturday. The market fell on sustained selling by investors, on concerns that high interest rates will dent corporate earnings, and on weak global Bourses. The Sensex has now lost almost 1,400 points in the last nine sessions. The Nifty shed 77 points, or 1.4 percent, to 5,460. The rupee depreciated 29 paise, to 44.76 against the dollar. India and Bangladesh are currently engaged in the process of conducting ground level surveys in the border areas in a bid to resolve outstanding border issues. Addressing a press conference after the arrival of Vice President Hamid Ansari in Dhaka today, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mr.Rajeet Mitter said that there is a new urgency to resolve the border issues and the surveys are being done to ascertain the problems on the ground.
Mr. Mitter said that the two sides are also working towards reaching a satisfactory water sharing agreement of the Teesta river and technical level issues are being sorted out.

India has tightened security at its missions and other establishments in Afghanistan after the killing of founder of Al Qaeda Osama Bin Ladin. Official sources said that security has been tightened in view of a heightened threat from Taliban and other terror groups. Intelligence inputs suggested that apart from its missions, other reconstruction projects being carried out by Indians could be targeted by terrorists based in Pakistan like Lashkhar-e-Taiba. New Delhi has also requested Kabul to deploy adequate Afghan security personnel in the Indian missions as well as other assets.

It was the second major attack in Iraq since US commandos killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. Nobody has claimed responsibility for today’s attack, which was targeted to kill police trainees, but many people were quick to blame local branch of al-Qaeda. Iraqi security forces have been on high alert since the killing of Bin Laden as Al-Qaeda operatives in Iraq vowed revenge for bin Laden's death. Speaking at Singapore's Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Krishna recalled Tagore's objective and motive for travelling to the Southeast Asian countries in 1927.
