The International Labour Organisation has called for urgent action against hazardous forms of Child labour on the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour today. According to the latest report of the ILO, more than 215 million children are employed as labourers in various sectors across the world. Of these more than 115 million are employed in hazardous work. The report also states that although the overall number of children aged between 5 and 17 in hazardous work declined between 2004 and 2008, the number aged between  15 and 17 actually increased by 20 per cent during the same period.

India has the second highest number of child labourers in the world. According to the 2001 census there were about 13 million child labourers in the country. Employing children below the age of 14 is a punishable crime in India and the Supreme Court in its ruling in 1996 had banned employment of children in hazardous industries like glass, brassware, lock, slate, balloon, brick-kiln and the like. And this year the Apex court  banned employing children in the travelling circuses. The report of International Labour Organisation states that every minute of every day, a child labourer somewhere in the world suffers a work-related accident, illness or psychological trauma. Children are the future of tomorrow and it is necessary to ensure that all children are in education at least until the minimum age of employment. Sumita Yadav, AIR News, Delhi

But the end-of-innings cameo from Andre Russell, who scored his last 42 runs of 14 balls, changed the face of the game. He blasted an unbeaten 92, taking his team to a respectable 225. In reply, Shikhar Dhawan's wicket early in the innings triggered a middle order collapse for the Men in blue as India were left in tatters at 92-6 in 23 overs. Then an industrious 88-run 7th-wicket stand between Rohit and Harbhajan steered India home with 22 balls to spare. West Indian Andre Russell was adjudged man of the match.  Savvy Hassan Khan, Sports Desk
