फ्रांस ने जोर देकर कहा है कि संवेदनशील प्रौद्योगिकी के निर्यात नियम कड़े करने के बारे में परमाणु आपूर्तिकर्ता समूह एन.एस.जी. के नये दिशा निर्देशों से २००८ में भारत को दी गई पूरी छूट पर कोई असर नहीं पड़ा है। भारत के साथ पूर्ण असैन्य परमाणु सहयोग की वचनबद्धता दोहरात हुए भारत में फ्रांस के राजदूत जेरोम बोनाफोन्त ने नई दिल्ली में जारी बयान में कहा कि एक सप्ताह पहले नीदरलैंड में परमाणु आपूर्तिकर्ता समूह का फैसला किसी खास देश को ध्यान में रखकर नहीं किया गया है। फ्रांस का यह स्पष्टीकरण ४६ देशों के परमाणु आपूर्तिकर्ता समूह के ताजा दिशा निर्देशों पर भारत की चिंताओं के संदर्भ में आया है। एन.एस.जी. ने परमाणु अस्त्र अप्रसार संधि पर हस्ताक्षर न करने वाले देशों को परमाणु प्रौद्योगिकी देने पर रोक लगा दी गई है।-------
भारत ने जम्मू कश्मीर के बारे में इस्लामिक सम्मेलन संगठन ओ.आई.सी. की टिप्पणियों को सिरे से खारिज+ करते हुए कहा है कि उसे भारत के आंतरिक मामलों में हस्तक्षेप का कोई अधिकार नहीं है। विदेश ंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता विष्णु प्रकाश ने कल नई दिल्ली में कहा कि जम्मू-कश्मीर भारत का अभिन्न अंग है और दुनिया में मुसलमानों की दूसरी सबसे बड़ी आबादी भारत में ही है। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत को खेद है कि ओ.आई.सी. ने एक बार फिर अपने प्रस्तावों में जम्मू-कश्मीर और भारत के आंतरिक मामलों पर टिप्पणी की है। ओ.आई.सी. ने कजाकिस्तान में अस्ताना में विदेश मंत्रियों की परिषद के ३८वें अधिवेशन में कहा था वो कश्मीरी लोगों और अधिकारों के लिए संघर्ष में पूरी तरह से उनके साथ हैं।-------
देश के तीन बड़े बैंकों ने ऑटो, आवास और कॉरपोरेट क्षेत्र के लिएब्याज की दर चौथाई प्रतिशत बढ़ाने की घोषणा की है। इनमें आई.सी.आई.सी.आई. बैंक तथा सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के इंडियन ओवरसीज बैंक और देना बैंक शामिल है। बढ़ी हुई ब्याज दरों से ऑटो, आवास और कॉरपोरेट क्षेत्र में ग्राहकों के लिए ऋण और महंगा हो जाएगा।-------
वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा है कि कालेधन को वापस लाने के बारे में ३४ देशों के साथ हुए समझौतों के बाद भारतीय नागरिकों द्वारा विदेशों में जमा किये गये कालेधन के बारे में सरकार को अब अधिकजानकारी मिलने लगी है। कोलकाता में कल एक जनसभा में श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि स्विट्ज+रलैंड सहित कई देशों से विदेशी बैंकों से लेन-देन के बारे में अधिक जानकारी मिल रही है। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि पिछले दो वर्षों में ६८ हजार करोड़ रूपये का कालाधन वापिस लाया गया है। इस मुद्दे पर कुछ लोगों के अनशन या दूसरे तरीकों से आंदोलन के बारे में वित्त मंत्री ने कहा कि यह संसदीय लोकतंत्र के खिलाफ कदम है।उन्होंने ऐसे आंदोलन को समर्थन देने के लिए कम्युनिस्ट पार्टियों तथा अन्य दलों की आलोचना की।-------
केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य मंत्री गुलाम नबी आजाद ने कहा है कि तेलंगाना को राज्य का दर्जा दिये जाने पर अंतिम फैसला लेते समय आंध्रप्रदेश में सभी क्षेत्रों के लोगों की भावनाओं को ध्यान में रखा जाएगा। कल शाम हैदराबाद में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसे विवादास्पद मुद्दे पर राष्ट्रीय सहमति बनाना मुश्किल है। राज्य मामलों में कांग्रेस प्रभारी श्री आजाद ने कहा कि इस मुद्दे का राष्ट्रीय प्रभाव हो सकता है।राज्य के कुछ मंत्रियों सहित तेलंगाना क्षेत्र के कांग्रेस नेताओं ने घोषणा की है कि अलग तेलंगाना राज्य बनाने की प्रक्रिया शुरू करने की उनकी मांग पर केंद्र सरकार से कोई स्पष्ट बयान नहीं मिलने पर वे सोमवार को इस्तीफा दे देंगे। इस इलाके से तेलगुदेशम पार्टी के नेताओं ने भी कांग्रेस नेताओं की तर्ज पर इस्तीफा देने की घोषणा की है। तेलंगाना राष्ट्र समिति ने दोनों पार्टियों के फैसले का स्वागत करते हुए तेलंगाना को राज्य का दर्जा देने के लिए आंदोलन तेज करने का आह्वान किया है।

पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार ने पिछले तीन दिनों में २१ शिशुओं की मृत्यु के मामले में कोलकाता के बी सी राय बाल अस्पताल में बुनियादी सुविधाओं की कमी की बात स्वीकार की है। राज्य के स्वास्थ्य सचिव एम एन राय ने कहा कि इन शिशुओं के उपचार में कोई लापरवाही नहीं बरती गई। उन्होंने कहा कि अधिकतर बच्चों को सांस लेने में तकलीफ, खून में विषाक्तता और जन्म के समय कम वजन की समस्या की एकदम अंतिम अवस्था में अस्पताल लाया गया था। मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी ने शिशुओं की मौत की जांच के आदेश दिये और जांच समिति ने कल अपनी रिपोर्ट सरकार को सौंप दी। इस बीच, राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग ने राज्य सरकार को नोटिस जारी करके दो सप्ताह में मामले की रिपोर्ट मांगी है।-------

राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी-एन आई ए की विशेष अदालत ने २००७ के समझौता एक्सप्रेस विस्फोट मामले में कल संदीप डांगे और रामचन्द्र कलासंग्रा को भगोड़ा घोषित कर दिया। इस मामले के आरोपी स्वामी सीमानंद कोपंचकुला की विशेष अदालत में पेश किया गया।असीमानंद के साथ इस मामले के एक अन्य आरोपी लोकेश शर्मा को भी एन आई ए के विशेष जज सुभाष मेहला की अदालत में पेश किया गया। मामले की अगली सुनवाई १८ जुलाई को होगी।

केन्द्र ने अदालतों में लंबित मामलों की संख्या में कमी लाने का एक राष्ट्रव्यापी कार्यक्रम शुरू किया है। केन्द्रीय विधि और न्याय मंत्री एम वीरप्पा मोइली ने कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालय के १५०वें स्थापना दिवस के अवसर पर कल इस कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ किया। समाज के सभी वर्गों को कम खर्च पर जल्दी न्याय उपलब्ध कराने की आवश्यकता पर बल देते हुए श्री मोइली ने इस योजना के सफल क्रियान्वयन में जनता, वकीलों, सरकार और न्यायपालिका से सहयोग की अपील की।-------
भारत और मलेशिया के बीच व्यापार, सेवाओं और निवेश संबंधी व्यापक आर्थिक सहयोग समझौता कल से लागू हो गया। वाणिज्य मंत्रालय की विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि दोनों देशों के बीच मुक्त व्यापार समझौते में पाम ऑयल, कॉफी, ब्लैक टी और काली मिर्च को विशेष दर्जा देते हुए इन महत्वपूर्ण कृषि वस्तुओं पर आयात शुल्क अधिक रखा गया है ताकि घरेलू उत्पादकों के हितों की रक्षा की जा सके। मलेशिया सहित आसियान देशों के साथ मुक्त व्यापार समझौतों पर भारत की बातचीत शुरू होने के बाद से कुछ राजनीतिक दलों और किसान संगठनों की इस मामले में चिंता को देखते हुए ऐसा किया गया है।-------
भारत और बंगलादेश के बीच मेघालय में सीमापार हाट शुरू हो गई है।भारत ने पिछले वर्ष अक्टूबर में इस बारे में हुए आपसी समझौते को कल लागू कर दिया। ये सीमापार हाट बलियामारी- कलईचार और लाउवाघर- बलात कस्बों में लगाये जाएंगे। दोनों तरफ के लोग विशेष दिनों और समय पर इन हाटों के लिए सीमापार आ - जा सकेंगे।-------
उत्तर भारत के अनेक हिस्सों में भारी वर्षा हुई है। उत्तर प्रदेश में जलग्रहण क्षेत्रों में हुई भारी बारिश से गंगा, घाघरा, राप्ती और बूढ़ी गंडक सहित सभी प्रमुख नदियों का जलस्तर बढ़ गया है। नदियों का जलस्तर अचानक बढ़ने से पूर्वी और तराई क्षेत्र के अनेक इलाकों में बाढ़ का खतरा बना हुआ है। पिछले २४ घंटों में कानपुर और गाजीपुर जिलों में वर्षा से जुड़ी घटनाओं में ५ लोगों की मौत हो चुकी है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि पिछले २४ घंटों में राज्य के अनेक संभागों में बहुत भारी बारिश हुई है।बनमदा-बहराइच से दो लाख अस्सी हजार क्यूसेक पानी छोड़े जाने से गोंडा जिले में घाघरा और सरयू नदियों का जल स्तर बढ़ने लगा है। बाल्मिकी नगर बेराज से पानी छोड़े जाने के कारण सिद्धार्थ नगर, महाराजगंज और कुशी नगर के कई गांव में बाढ़ का पानी आने की आशंका पैदा हो गई है। पिछले चौबीस घंटों के दौरान राज्य के पूर्वी क्षेत्रों में रूक-रूक कर बारिश होती रही जबकि कई पश्चिमी जिलों में मूसलाधार बारिश हुई है।

असम में लगभग सभी प्रमुख नदियों का जलस्तर खतरे के निशान के करीब पहुंच गया है। अगर बारिश जारी रही तो जल्द ही नदियों का उफान खतरे के निशान को पार कर जाएगा। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि गोलाघाट जिले में नुमालीगढ़ में धनसिरी नदी का पानी खतरे के निशान से ऊपर बह रहा है।मूसलाधार बारिश के कारण असम के कुछ हिस्सों पर जनजीवन अस्त-व्यस्त है।केन्द्रीय जल आयोग के अनुसार वराहघाटी के सिलचर और बदरपुर में ७८ मिलिमीटर से ज्यादा वर्षा हुई। मौसम विभाग के अनुसार अगले बारह घंटे में राज्य के कुछ हिस्सों पर गरज+ के साथ बारिश हो सकती है। इधर डिबरूगढ़ अलडोहरा जिले के निवानिकास में ब्रह्मनुत्र लगातार चेतावनी स्तर से ऊपर से बह रही है। इसके अलावा भूरीदिही, दिशांग या बुराली, मूसरीमाली औ बेकीनरी भी कई जगहों पर भी चेतावनी स्तर से ऊपर बह रही है।

France says, the new guidelines of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, NSG tightening the export of sensitive technologies does not undermine the clean waiver given to India by the 46-nation nuclear cartel in 2008. Reiterating his Government’s commitment to full civil nuclear cooperation with New Delhi, French Ambassador to India Jerome Bonnafont said the decision taken by the NSG in its meeting in the Nehterlands a week ago is not a measure targeting any particular State. France's clarification on the NSG waiver came amid concerns in India about the new guidelines approved by the cartel at its meeting which restricts the transfer of NSG technologies to countries which have not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, NPT.

New Delhi has strongly rejected the comments by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, OIC on Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the grouping has no locus standi on matters related to India's internal affairs. The Centre has launched a nationwide programme to reduce pending cases in courts. The Mission Mode Programme was launched by Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily on the occasion of the 150th foundation Day of the Calcutta High Court yesterday. Moily said, the Centre has fixed a target of reducing 40 percent pending cases in sub-ordinate courts by the end of this year. Stressing on speedy justice at cheaper cost to all sections of society, Dr Moily sought the co-operation from the public, advocates, Government and Judiciary for successful implementation of the scheme.

The Congress party will file a PIL in Allahabad High Court seeking CBI probe into the alleged murder of Deputy Chief Medical Officer Y S Sachan inside the Lucknow jail and the rape and killing of a teenage girl inside the Nighasan police station in Lakhimpur-Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. Union Coal Minister and senior Congress leader Shree Prakash Jaiswal told media persons in Lucknow that the state government is avoiding handing over the cases to CBI as it will expose the role of many high-up.
Samajwadi Party and BJP have also made a fresh demand for a CBI probe into the death of Sachan, maintaining that his family members have no faith in the state investigating agencies.

Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad has said the sentiments of the people from all regions in Andhra Pradesh will be taken into account before taking a final decision on statehood for Telangana. Talking to reporters in Hyderabad last evening, he said arriving at national consensus on such a contentious issue is not an easy task. Mr. Azad, who is in charge of the party affairs in Andhra Pradesh said that the centre needs to consult political parties on the issue and asked his party leaders not to take any hasty decisions.

Three major banks, including the ICICI Bank have increased lending rates by 0.25 per cent making auto, home and corporate loans more expensive for borrowers. Besides the ICICI Bank, state-owned Indian Overseas Bank and Dena Bank have also announced increase in their lending rates by 0.25 per cent. The decision to hike lending comes following the Reserve Bank of India increasing key lending rates and borrowing rates by 25 basis points to tame rising inflation.

As per reports, hundreds of pilgrims at Yamunotri route are still stranded near Shayanachatti in Uttar Kashi district following the land slides whereas a number of devotees in Gourikund are facing problems due to closure of tracking yatra route for Kedarnath shrine. Meanwhile, district authorities personnel are working round the clock to clear the debris. According to the chairperson of the Char Dham Vikash Parishad, Suratram Nautiyal, the yatra would not be called off at any cost though there might be delays due to obstruction. "Heavy discharge from Banbasa barrage has caused increase in the water level of Ghaghra and Saryu in Gonda district where as the river Sharda is rising in Palia Kalan of Lakhimpur Kehri district. Several villages in Siddharthanagar, Mahrajganj and Kushinagar are facing threat of flood due to heavy discharge of water from Valmiki Nagar barrage. The intermittent rain continued in the eastern region while heavy rain has occurred in several western districts during past twenty four hours. Salman Haider/ AIR news/ Gorakhpur."
Meanwhile, 5 people have died in rain related incidents in Kanpur and Ghazipur districts during past 24 hours.

"Heavy discharge from Banbasa barrage has caused increase in the water level of Ghaghra and Saryu in Gonda district where as the river Sharda is rising in Palia Kalan of Lakhimpur Kehri district. Several villages in Siddharthanagar, Mahrajganj and Kushinagar are facing threat of flood due to heavy discharge of water from Valmiki Nagar barrage. Incessant rains effected normal life in a few places of the state. The Central Water Commission reports said that Silchar and Badarpurghat in Barak Valley recorded above 71 mm rainfalls in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile,the Brahmaputra River is continously flowing above the Warning level at Dibrugarh and Nimatighat in Jorhat district.Other rivers like Buridihing,Desang,Jia Bharali,Puthimari and Beki are also flowing near the Danger Level at many places of the state.If rain continues,these rivers may cross the danger level in a few days. राष्ट्रीय सलाहकार परिषद द्वारा मंजूर किए गए खाद्य सुरक्षा विधेयक के मसौदे को जल्द ही संसद में रखा जाएगा। इसमें ७५ प्रतिशत जनसंख्या को बहुत सस्ती दर पर अनाज दिया जाएगा। इस विधेयक के पारित हो जाने के बाद गरीबों को तीन रूपए प्रति किलोग्राम की दर से चावल मिलेगा। साधारण परिवारों को २० किलोग्राम चावल मिलेगा जिसकी कीमत न्यूनतम समर्थन मूल्य के आधे से अधिक नहीं होगी। इसके लिए सरकार एक लाख करोड़ रूपए की खाद्य सब्सिडी देगी। अभी वह ८२ हजार करोड़ रूपए की सब्सिडी दे रही है। खाद्य और उपभोक्ता मामलो के मंत्री प्रोफेसर के वी थॉमस ने आकाशवाणी से विशेष भेंट में यह बात कही। उन्होंने आशा व्यक्त की कि अनाज के रिकॉर्ड उत्पादन से खाद्य पदार्थों की महंगाई दर घटेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि पेट्रोलियम पदार्थों की बढ़ती कीमतों का असर आवश्यक वस्तुओं पर पड़ता है।भारत में मुद्रास्फीति कई कारकों से नियन्त्रित होती है। इनमें एक कारक अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय है। अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर जो भी उतार-चढ़ाव होता है, उसका भारत पर असर पड़ता है। उदाहरण के लिए यदि बाहर पैट्रोलियम पदार्थो की कीमतें बढ़ती हैं, क्योंकि हम इसके एक बड़े आयातक हैं, तो निश्चित तौर पर देश में पैट्रोल और डीजल की कीमतें बढ़ेगी। इसके अलावा उसे लाने ले जाने का खर्च भी असर डालता है। इसी तरह जैसा मैने कहा आवश्य वस्तुओं की कीमतों पर असर पड़ना लाजिमी है।
प्रोफेसर थॉमस ने कहा कि इस तरह की व्यवस्था विकसित की जानी चाहिए जिससे किसानों को उपज का उचित मूल्य मिल सके और उपभोक्ताओं को भी वाजिब दाम पर वस्तुएं उपलब्ध हों। उन्होंने कहा कि किसानों को फसलों की कटाई के बाद के कार्यों के लिए जागरूक किया जा रहा है जिससे अनाज की बर्बादी रोकी जा सकेगी। एक प्रश्न के उत्तर में श्री थॉमस ने कहा कि हमारी सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणाली कारगर है। केन्द्र सरकार इसके लिए पर्याप्त अनाज और चीनी दे रही है लेकिन यह राज्य सरकारों पर निर्भर है कि वे इसका कैसे प्रबंध करती हैं। खाद्य सुरक्षा विधेयक पर उन्होंने कहा कि इस पर २००९ से ही काम चल रहा है और इसका मसौदा तैयार हो चुका है। संवैधानिक प्रक्रिया पूरी होने पर इसे संसद के समक्ष रखा जाएगा। प्रोफेसर थॉमस से भेंटवार्ता आकाशवाणी के दिल्ली डी चैनल से आज रात सवा नौ बजे से प्रसारित की जाएगी।

बिहार में मुंगेर जिले में माओवादियों ने आज सुबह छः लोगों की हत्या कर दी। राज्य पुलिस महानिदेशक नीलमणि ने बताया कि आधुनिक हथियारों से लैस माओवादियों ने जिले के धरहरा थाने के करैली गांव पर धावा बोला। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि गांववालों के अनुसार माओवादियों ने दस ग्रामीणों को भी बंधक बना लिया है।सीआरपीएफ की वर्दी में माओवादियों ने गांवों पर धावा बोला और तावातोड़ गोलीबारी करने लगे। गोलीबारी में पांच ग्रामीणों की मौके पर मौत हो गई। एक घायल ने अस्पताल में दम तोड़ दिया। ग्रामीणों के अनुसार माओवादी दस अन्य लोगों को अपने साथ ले गये। सुरक्षाबल के जवानों ने माओवादियों का पीछा किया, लेकिन वो पास के जंगल में भाग गये। माओवादियों की धरपकड़ के लिए सघन छापेमारी अभियान चलाया जा रहा है। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए पटना से कृष्ण कुमार लाल।

जम्मू-कश्मीर में श्रीनगर शहर में आज सवेरे अग्निकांड में करोड़ों रूपए की संपत्ति नष्ट हो गई। श्रीनगर में सरकारी सूत्रों ने बताया कि घनी आबादी वाले पंडान, नौहट्टा इलाके के एक मकान में आग लग गई। सकरी गली होने के कारण दमकल घटनास्थल पर नहीं पहुंच सके। प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों ने बताया कि आग आसपास के इलाकों में फैल गई। सूत्रों ने बताया कि इस घटना में दस मकान जल गए जिनमें करोड़ों रूपए की संपत्ति को नुकसान पहुंचा। आग के कारणों का अभी पता नहीं चल सका है।----

देश के अधिकतर हिस्सों में वर्षा के बाद दक्षिण-पश्चिमी मानसून दो सप्ताह के लिए कमजोर रहेगा। मौसम विभाग के अनुसार पिछले पांच दिनों में मानसून में कोई प्रगति नहीं हुई है, राजस्थान और उत्तरी गुजरात में अभी भी कई इलाके वर्षा के इंतजार में हैं। जून में देश में ११ प्रतिशत अधिक वर्षा हुई है। मौसम विभाग ने ९ जुलाई से १५ जुलाई तक मानसून के कमजोर रहने के संकेत दिए हैं। मौसम विभाग ने पहले भी अनुमान व्यक्त किया था कि जुलाई और अगस्त में सामान्य से पांच प्रतिशत कम वर्षा होगी। देश के ७४ प्रतिशत हिस्सों में अधिक या सामान्य वर्षा हुई है, जबकि २६ प्रतिशत इलाकों में कम वर्षा रिकॉर्ड की गयी है। उत्तर भारत के अनेक भागों में भारी वर्षा होने के बावजूद केरल में दक्षिण-पश्चिम मॉनसून कमजोर पड़ता जा रहा है। मौसम विभाग के ताजा अनुमान के अनुसार राज्य में इस महीने बारिश सामान्य से सात प्रतिशत कम होगी।---
उत्तरप्रदेश में पिछले चौबीस घंटों में वर्षा कम हुई है लेकिन राज्य की प्रमुख नदियों का जल स्तर बढ़ा है। केंद्रीय जल आयोग के अनुसार खीरी जिले में शारदा नगर में शारदा नदी का स्तर खतरे के निशान से थोड़ा ऊपर है, जबकि बाराबंकी में एलगिन पुल के पास घाघरा नदी का जलस्तर खतरे के निशान पर पहुंच गया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है किसिद्धार्थनगर में बूढ़ी राप्ती नदी का जल स्तर खतरे के निशान को पार कर जाने से इलाके में बाढ़ का खतरा बढ़ गया है।
कई दिनों की बारिश के बाद अब मौसम आमतौर पर साफ है। नदियों में पानी बढ़ रहा है। केन्द्रीय जल आयोग के अनुसार पिछले कई दिनों में बुंदेलखंड में हुई भारी बारिश और हरियाणा और बनबासा बेराज से पानी छोड़े जाने के कारण गंगा, यमुना, घाघरा और शारदा नदियों में पानी बढ़ रहा है। पड़ोसी उत्तराखंड और नेपाल के इलाकों में हो रही बारिश से भी नदियों का जलस्तर बढ़ा है। पीलीभीत जिले के पूरनपुर तहसील के तीन गांवों में शारदा नदी की बाढ़ का खतरा पैदा हो गया है, जबकि गोंडा में घाघरा नदी के खतरे के निशान पर पहुंच जाने पर वहां तरफगंज और करनालगंज सैक्टरों में बाढ़ केन्द्रों को अलर्ट कर दिया गया है। राज्य सरकार ने बाढ़ संबंधी मरम्मत के काम के लिए दो सौ पचास करोड़ रूपये दिये है, लेकिन आने वाले दिनों में इन कामकाज की क्षमता का आंकलन हो सकेगा। संजय प्रताप सिंह, आकाशवाणी समाचार, इलाहाबाद।

नेपाल में भारी वर्षा के बाद बिहार में कई नदियों का जलस्तर खतरे के निशान से ऊपर आ गया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि कोसी, बागमती, महानन्दा और बूढ़ी गंडक नदियां खतरे के निशान से ऊपर बह रही हैं। कोसी में बाढ़ की आशंका बन गई है। कोसी बराज में आज सुबह इस वर्ष अब तक का सबसे अधिक एक लाख ३६ हजार क्यूसेक पानी छोड़ा गया। पिछले साल पानी का बहाव पश्चिमी दिशा में अधिक था लेकिन इस साल यह पूर्वी दिशा में हो गया है जिससे तटबंध टूट रहे हैं।---
त्रिपुरा में पिछले दो दिन में मूसलाधार बारिश से आई बाढ़ के कारण सौ से अधिक परिवारों को घरबार छोडना पड़ा है। अगरतला में आज मौसम विभाग के अधिकारियों ने कहा कि अगले ४८ घंटों में त्रिपुरा सहित पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों और उप हिमालय क्षेत्र में भारी से बहुत भारी वर्षा होने का अनुमान है। लगातार बारिश होने से अगरतला के निचले इलाकों में पानी भर गया है, जिससे यातायात पर असर पड़ा है। राज्य के दूसरे हिस्सों से मिली खबरों में बताया गया है कि आंधी के साथ भारी वर्षा से सामान्य जनजीवन अस्त-व्यस्त हो गया है। धान और सब्जियों की फसल को बाढ़ से नुकसान पहुंचा है। अधिकारियों ने अगरतला और दूसरे शहरी इलाकों में नौकाओं की व्यवस्था की है और बाढ़ प्रबंधन अधिकारियों से नदियों के जल स्तर में वृद्धि पर निगाह रखने को कहा है।----
असम में डिब्रूगढ़ और जोरहाट जिले के निमाटीघाट में ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी खतरे के निशान के करीब बह रही है। आज सुबह केन्द्रीय जल आयोग की रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि गोलाघाट जिले में नुमालीगढ़ में धनश्री नदी खतरे के निशान से ऊपर बह रही है। बूढ़ीडिहींग, देसांग, जिया भराली, पुथिमारी और बेकी नदी का जल स्तर भी खतरे के निशान से लगभग एक मीटर नीचे है। इस बीच, सोणितपुर जिले के बालीपारा में पिछले १२ घंटों में ८७ मिलिमीटर और कामरूप जिले के पुथिमारी में ७२ मिलीमीटर वर्षा रिकार्ड की गई।----
जम्मू-कश्मीर में अमरनाथ यात्रा कल स्थगित रहने के बाद बालताल के रास्ते फिर शुरू हो गई है। हालांकि पहलगाम के रास्ते यात्रा सुचारू रूप से चल रही थी। सरकारी सूत्रों ने बताया है कि पांच हजार से ज्यादा तीर्थयात्री बालताल आधार शिविर से पैदल रवाना हुए। इस बीच, खराब मौसम और श्रद्धालुओं की भारी भीड़ को देखते हुए आज जम्मू से अमरनाथ यात्रा स्थगित कर दी गई।आज जम्मू से किसी भी यात्री को पवित्र गुफा की ओर नहीं जाने दिया गया। इसके अलावा जम्मू-श्रीनगर राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग पर कल उधमपुर, नगरोता, रामबन और पटनीटोप पर लगभग एक हजार के करीब अमरनाथ जाने वाले यात्रियों को रोक लिया गया और कल शाम से खाने-पीने और रहने की तमाम सुविधायें उपलब्ध कराई गई है। वार्षिक अमरनाथ यात्रा आरम्भ होने से अब तक सडसठ हजार दो सौ अठावन अमरनाथ यात्रियों ने पवित्र गुफा में शिवलिंग के दर्शन किये है। दर्शन करने वाले यात्रियों की संख्या एक लाख को पार कर गई होती, अगर कल खराब मौसम के कारण बालताल का मार्ग बंद नही किया गया होता। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए जम्मू से आर.के.रैना।

नीरज ग्रोवर की जघन्य हत्या मामले में सबूत नष्ट करने की दोषी पाई गई कन्नड़ अभिनेत्री मारिया सुसाइराज को आज मुम्बई के भायखला जेल से रिहा कर दिया गया। मुम्बई की सत्र अदालत ने कल उसे तीन साल की कैद की सजा सुनाई थी। मारिया ने सुनवाई के दौरान कैद की अवधि पहले ही पूरी कर ली है। मारिया के मंगेतर पूर्व नौसेना अधिकारी एमिल जेरोम मैथ्यू को २००८ में नीरज ग्रोवर की हत्या मामले में गैर इरादतन हत्या का दोषी पाया गया और उसे दस साल की सजा सुनाई गई है।----
असम सरकार ने अपने वन क्षेत्र की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए नई वन आरक्षी बटालियन गठित करने का फैसला किया है। इस बटालियन में ९५० जवान होंगे और इसका मुख्यालय काजीरंगा राष्ट्रीय पार्क में सिकोनी में स्थित होगा। राज्य में यह दूसरी वन आरक्षी बटालियन होगी। असम में पांच नेशनल पार्क और १८ वन्यप्राणी अभ्यारण्य हैं। राज्य के वन मंत्री रकीबुल हुसैन ने बताया कि विद्यार्थियों को सामाजिक जागरूकता कार्यक्रमों में शामिल करने के लिए स्कूली पाठ्यक्रम में पर्यावरण और वानिकी को एक विषय के रूप में शामिल किया जाएगा।----
बंगलादेश में चटगांव में बारिश से हुए भू- स्खलन में मरने वालों की संख्या १७ हो गई है। शहर के लालखान बाजार की झुग्गियों में सोए हुए ये लोग कीचड़ में दब गए थे। स्थानीय पुलिस प्रमुख अबु जफर मोहम्मद उमर फारुख ने बताया कि तीन दिन की भारी बारिश से हुए भू-स्खलन में कम से कम सात घर दब गए थे। कल खुदाई के बाद १२ शव निकाले गए, जिनमें ज्यादातर महिलाएं और बच्चे थे।---

The Food Security Bill finalised by the National Advisory Council will be brought to Parliament soon for approval. It entitles 75 percent of the population to highly subsidised food grains. People living Below Poverty Line will get rice at three rupees a kilogram after the bill is approved by the Parliament. General households have the right to 20 kilograms of rice not exceeding 50 per cent of Minimum Support Price paid to farmers. Government will have to provide a subsidy of one lakh crore rupees after the Food Security Bill becomes a law. At present, Government is providing food subsidy of eighty-two thousand crores rupees. This was revealed by Food and Consumer Affairs Minister, Prof. K.V. Thomas in an exclusive interview to All India Radio. He expressed hope that the food inflation will come down in view of their record production. Prof. Thomas said that the hike in petroleum prices will also have its impact on essential commodities.
The Minister asserted that a mechanism needs to be developed to provide reasonable price to farmers and affordable price to consumers. Prof. Thomas said that a campaign is being launched to make farmers aware of the post-harvest operations.
In reply to a question, Prof. Thomas said our Public Distribution System, PDS has been working very efficiently. Government is giving sufficient food grains and sugar to distribute through PDS, but it is up to the states how they manage it. An all party meeting on Lok Pal will be held in New Delhi tomorrow to take all views on board to make a strong the Anti Corruption Law. Centre is committed to make such a law and bring the proposed bill in the Monsoon Session. The name of a new Central Vigilance Commissioner, CVC has been finalised. The formal announcement will be made by the government, said the leader of the Opposition Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, who is one of the three members of the high level committee to select the CVC.The two other members of the selection committee are Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram. The committee met in New Delhi this morning at the Prime Minister's residence. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mrs. Swaraj said, the candidates whose names have been shortlisted include Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar, former Home Secretary G.K. Pillai and former Railway Board Memeber A P Mishra. The selection comes in the wake of removal of P J Thomas as CVC in connection with the Pamolein scam.

In Andhra Pradesh, hectic political parleys are underway over Statehood for Telangana following the elected representatives of Congress party from the region announcing their decision to tender resignations on Monday. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Pradesh Congress Committee President B Satyanarayana held a series of meetings this morning with several state ministers from the region. They reportedly have tried to appease them to withdraw the decision to resign as the matter was under consideration of the Congress High command. The PCC president has called the ministers to the party office, Gandhi Bhavan, to discuss the matter.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party leaders from Telangana have announced that they would resign if their Congress counterparts submit resignations. Welcoming the decision to resign, Telangana Rastra Samithi MLAs said they would also resign if the Telanagna Joint Action Committee asks to do so.

In Assam, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme being implemented by the state government in collaboration with UNICEF has improved the sanitation and safe drinking facilities of the people. Our correspondent reports, the programme was initiated in 5 districts of Upper Assam to provide better sanitation facilities to the temporary tea gardens workers.
Under this programme, the BPL families of the tea gardens are being provided with subsidized low-cost sanitary toilets along with safe water supply facilities. So far,around 18 thousand Individual House Hold Latrines have been constructed with the help of Self-Help Groups and NGOs.It resulted in the improvement of life style of the people in the tea gardens. Kannada actress Maria Susairaj, convicted for destruction of evidence in the brutal killing, chopping and burning of the body of media executive Neeraj Grover, was released from Mumbai's Byculla Jail today. A Mumbai sessions court yesterday sentenced her to three years in prison in the case. She has already served this sentence during trial. Maria was released after completing all the paperwork and formalities. Her fiancée, a former naval officer, Emile Jerome Mathew, convicted of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing Neeraj Grover in 2008.

After rains in most parts of the country, the South-West monsoon will be weak for next two weeks. According to the Met office monsoon has made no further progress in the past five days leaving parts of Rajasthan and north Gujarat yearning for seasonal rains. The country received 11 per cent excess rainfall in June. The weather outlook from 9th July 15th July also indicate weak monsoon conditions over the country, the IMD said. Earlier, the Met officer had said that rains in July and August could be well below normal this year at 95 per cent of the Long Period Average. In area-wise distribution, 74 per cent area of the country received excess or normal rainfall while remaining 26 per cent area received deficient to scanty rainfall.
Rain fall has decreased throughout in Uttar Pradesh since last twenty four hours but raised the water levels of the rivers in the state. The major rivers are rising at several places. According to central water commission Sharda River is flowing slightly above the danger mark in Paliankanlan in Khiri district while Ghaghara is flowing at danger level at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki and in Ayodhya. Even as several parts of north India are lashed with heavy rain, south-west monsoon continues to be weak over Kerala. Our correspondent reports, as per the latest forecast of meteorological department rainfall will be seven per cent less than normal during this month.
Due to the absence of favourable weather conditions in Pacific and Indian oceans south-west monsoon is weak over Kerala ,especially in southern districts. Usually, Kerala gets maximum rainfall in July. However, this year rainfall will be seven and six per cent less than normal in July and August respectively. In Assam, river Brahmaputra is flowing near the danger level mark at Dibrugarh and Nimatighat in Jorhat. The Central Water Commission report said this morning that Dhansiri River at Numaligarh in Golaghat district is flowing above the Danger level . Other rivers Buridihing,Desang,Jia Bharali,Puthimari and Beki are also flowing less than one meter to the Danger level. Meanwhile, places like Balipara in Sonitpur district and Puthimari in Kamrup recorded 87 mm and 72 mm rainfalls in the last 12 hour.

In neighbouring Bangladesh, the death toll from a rain-triggered landslide in the Bangladesh port city of Chittagong has risen to 17, as five more bodies were pulled from the mud. The victims were buried while sleeping in their tin-roofed shanty houses in the south eastern city's Lalkhan Bazaar slum. Local police chief Abu Zafar Mohammad Omar Faruq said twelve bodies -- mostly women and children -- were dug out yesterday after three days of heavy rain triggered the landslide, with the mud burying at least seven houses.

China's official news agency says 21 miners were trapped underground early today when a coal mine in southwestern Guizhou Province flooded. The Xinhua news agency said 29 miners were working in two shafts of the Niupeng Mine in Pingtang County when the mine was flooded. Eight of the miners have been rescued. China's coal mines are the world's deadliest, with thousands of miners dying every year.

In Jammu and Kashmir, pilgrimage to the Holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas was resumed from shortest Baltal track after remaining suspended yesterday. However, the yatra from traditional Pahalgam route was going on smoothly. All the yatris who halted at different halting stations during the night on Pahalgam route have also started their journey towards the cave shrine this morning. Official sources said more than five thousand pilgrims, including women and children left Baltal base camp to cover the hilly track on foot to reach the shrine. Sources said a record number of 61,000 pilgrims have darshan of the self made Ice-Shivlingam in the cave shrine since June 29th when the gate of the cave was thrown open for devotees. No fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to move towards Amarnath from Jammu base camp today. Besides this, over 1,000 Amarnath-bound pilgrims were stopped at various places enroute Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Udhampur, Nagrota, Ramban and Patnitop areas and provided lodging facilities since last night. So far a total of 67,258 pilgrims offered prayers and had 'darshan' of the naturally formed ice-shivlingam in the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in the past three days since the commencement of the yatra on June 29. The number of pilgrims could have crossed one lakh mark but the inclement weather forced the authorities to suspend the yatra temporarily from the 13-km long Baltal route yesterday. Assam Government has decided to raise a new Forest Reserve Battalion to ensure preservation of its forest areas. The new battalion will have 950 jawans and it’s headquarter is to be located at Sikoni in Kaziranga National Park. This will be the second forest reserve battalion to be raised in the State. Assam has at present five national parks and 18 wildlife sanctuaries. The State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain said the forest coverage in Assam is estimated at 37 per cent of the total 78,438 square kilometer area compared to the national average of 24 per cent. Hussain said environment and forestry will be included as a subject in school curriculum of the State to involve the student community in social awareness programmes. The Minister was speaking at a function organized to observe the 62nd Van Mahotsava in Guwahati. Mass plantation, awareness programmes and different competitions among the school children are being organized across the State to observe the occasion in a befitting manner.

लोकपाल के मुद्दे पर कल नई दिल्ली में सर्वदलीय बैठक होगी। एनडीए और वामदलों ने इस बैठक में भाग लेने की घोषणा की है। एनडीए नेताओं की बैठक के बाद भारतीय जनता पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता लाल कृष्ण आडवाणी ने कहा कि उनकी पार्टी और सहयोगी दल भ्रष्टाचाररोधी विधेयक के बारे में अपने विचार बैठक में रखेंगे।निर्णय किया कि हम जाए जो हमारा असंतोष है। सरकार के रवैये के बारे में वह वहां जाकर प्रकट करे और जाकर के अपनी जो बात कहनी होगी वहां पर कहेंगे और हम चाहेंगे कि ऐसा विधेयक बने जिसमें से एक सशक्त और प्रभावी लोकपाल आए जो भ्रष्टचार को सब स्तरों पर रोक सकें।
श्री आडवाणी ने कहा कि सरकार को पहले अपने प्रारूप की मंजूरी मंत्रिमंडल से लेनी चाहिए और फिर पूरी बहस के लिए उसे संसद में पेश करना चाहिए।
मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने कांग्रेस पर आरोप लगाया कि प्रधानमंत्री को लोकपाल के दायरे में लाये जाने के बारे में वह अपने पहले के विचार से मुकर रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता प्रणब मुखर्जी की अध्यक्षता वाली संसद की समिति ने 2001 में प्रधानमंत्री को लोकपाल के दायरे में लाये जाने की राय दी थी।
पार्टी महासचिव प्रकाश कारात ने पत्रकारों से बातचीत में कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री को लोकपाल के दायरे में शामिल किया जाना चाहिए, क्योंकि उनका पद भ्रष्टाचार निवारण अधिनियम से परे नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि वाम दल सर्वदलीय बैठक में भाग लेंगे और वामदलों के नेता इस मुद्दे पर अपने विचार बैठक मे रखेंगे, क्योंकि सरकार ने अपना प्रारूप उन्हें नहीं दिया है। इस बीच, समाजसेवी अण्णा हजारे ने भ्रष्टाचार रोधी विधेयक पर अपना रूख स्पष्ट करने के लिए आज यूपीए अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी से मुलाकात की। बैठक के बाद श्री हजारे ने कहा कि लोकपाल विधेयक का उचित प्रारूप संसद में रखा जाना चाहिए और फिर संसद का जो भी निर्णय होगा उसे वे स्वीकार करेंगे।
कांग्रेस प्रवक्ता जनार्दन द्विवेदी ने इस मुलाकात के बारे में बताया कि श्रीमती गांधी ने श्री हजारे को आश्वासन दिया है कि सिविल सोसायटी के विचारों के बारे में पार्टी में चर्चा की जाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि बातचीत सौहार्दपूर्ण वातावरण में हुई।
अत्यंत सदभावनापूर्ण वातावरण में एक दूसरे के विचारों और भावनाओं को समझने की कोशिश के साथ पूरे शिष्टाचार के साथ बातचीत हुई। कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष ने इतना ही कहा कि जो कुछ आपने आज मुझसे कहा है वह मैं फिर से अपने सहयोगियों के सामने रखूंगा।

रक्षा सचिव प्रदीप कुमार के नये मुख्य सतर्कता आयुक्त के पद पर नियुक्त किए जाने की खबर है। पीटीआई ने सूत्रों के हवाले से बताया है कि 31 जुलाई को सेवानिवृत होने वाले श्री प्रदीप कुमार का चयन प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह, गृहमंत्री पी. चिदंबरम और लोकसभा में विपक्ष की नेता सुषमा स्वराज की समिति ने सर्वसम्मति से किया। लेकिन उनके चयन की सरकारी तौर पर पुष्टि अभी तक नहीं की गई है। 1972 बैच के हरियाणा कैडर के आई एस अधिकारी श्री प्रदीप कुमार रक्षा-सचिव से पहले रक्षा उत्पादन सचिव रह चुके हैं।---
राष्ट्रीय सलाहकार परिषद द्वारा मंजूर खाद्य सुरक्षा विधेयक के मसौदे को जल्द ही संसद में पेश किया जाएगा। इसमें देश की 75 प्रतिशत जनसंख्या को बहुत सस्ती दर पर अनाज देने का प्रस्ताव किया गया है। खाद्य और उपभोक्ता मामलों के मंत्री प्रोफेसर के. वी. थॉमस ने आकाशवाणी के साथ भेंटवार्ता में कहा कि यह कानून बनने से गरीबी रेखा से नीचे के परिवारों को चावल के लिए तीन रूपए प्रति किलो और गेहूं के लिए दो रूपये प्रति किलोग्राम की दर से भुगतान करना होगा। आम परिवारों को 20 किलोग्राम चावल मिलेगा जिसकी कीमत न्यूनतम समर्थन मूल्य के आधे से अधिक नहीं होगी। प्रोफेसर थॉमस ने आशा व्यक्त की कि अनाज के रिकॉर्ड उत्पादन से खाद्य पदार्थों की कीमत में कमी आएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि पेट्रोलियम पदार्थों की बढ़ती कीमतों का प्रभाव भी आवश्यक वस्तुओं पर पड़ता है।अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर जो भी उतार-चढ़ाव होता है, उसका भारत पर असर पड़ता है। उदाहरण के लिए यदि बाहर पैट्रोलियम पदार्थो की कीमतें बढ़ती हैं, क्योंकि हम इसके एक बड़े आयातक हैं, तो निश्चित तौर पर देश में पैट्रोल और डीजल की कीमतें बढ़ेगी। इसके अलावा उसे लाने ले जाने का खर्च भी असर डालता है। एक प्रश्न के उत्तर में श्री थॉमस ने कहा कि हमारी सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणाली कारगर ढंग से काम कर रही है। केन्द्र सरकार इसके लिए पर्याप्त अनाज और चीनी दे रही है लेकिन इसका प्रबंधन राज्य सरकारों पर निर्भर है। यह पूरी भेंटवार्ता आज रात सवा नौ बजे दिल्ली डी-चैनल पर सुनी जा सकती है।

पूर्व केन्द्रीय मंत्री और जाने-माने कम्युनिस्ट नेता चतुरानन मिश्र का आज नई दिल्ली में दिल का दौरा पड़ने से निधन हो गया। वे 87 वर्ष के थे। श्री मिश्र भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी और ऑल इंडिया ट्रेड यूनियन कांग्रेस में कई पदों पर रहे थे।स्वतंत्रता सेनानी के तौर पर उन्होंने भारत छोड़ो आन्दोलन में हिस्सा लिया था। वे 1996 में एच डी देवेगौड़ और इन्द्र कुमार गुजराल के नेतृत्व वाली संयुक्त मोर्चा सरकार में कृषि मंत्री रहे। भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के महासचिव ए बी बर्धन ने कहा है कि श्री मिश्र के निधन से पार्टी को अपूरणीय क्षति हुई है।

असम सरकार ने अपने वन क्षेत्र की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए नई वनआरक्षी बटालियन गठित करने का फैसला किया है। इस बटालियन में 950 जवानहोंगे और इसका मुख्यालय काजीरंगा राष्ट्रीय पार्क में सिकोनी में स्थितहोगा। राज्य में यह दूसरी वन आरक्षी बटालियन होगी। असम में पांच नेशनलपार्क और 18 वन्यप्राणी अभ्यारण्य हैं। NEWS AT NINE

Briefing the media after a meeting of the NDA leaders, Senior BJP leader L.K.Advani said that his party and allies will put forth their views on the anti-graft Bill. He said, the government should first get the draft of the Bill approved by the cabinet and introduce it in Parliament for wholesome debate on the issue. The CPI(M) accused Congress of reversing its own stand of bringing the Prime Minister under Lokpal purview, saying a Parliamentary panel headed by senior party leader Pranab Mukherjee had made such a recommendation in 2001. Party General Secretary Prakash Karat told the media in New Delhi that the Prime Minister should be included under the purview of the bill as his office is not immune to the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In a related development, Civil society activist Anna Hazare today met UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to explain their stand on the anti-graft Bill. Talking to media after the meeting, Hazare said, proper draft of Lokpal Bill should go to Parliament and they will respect whatever Parliament decides. Briefing reporters about the meeting, Congress spokesman Janardan Dwedi said that Gandhi assured Anna Hazare that the views of the civil society will be discussed in the party. He said, the discussion took place in a cordial atmosphere.

In Bihar, search operation has been intensified to locate 11 people abducted by Maoists from Karaili village of Munger district. State Director General of Police Neelmani said, if required, helicopter will also be pressed into the search operation. AIR Patna correspondent reports that an intensive combing operation is continuing to nab the Maoists.
The Maoists equipped with sophisticated weapons, attacked village Karaili under Dharhara police station of Munger district and killed six villagers of tribal community this morning.

The Food Security Bill finalised by the National Advisory Council, will be brought to the Parliament shortly for approval. The draft Bill entitles 75 per cent of the population to highly subsidised food grains. It provides for people living Below Poverty Line, getting rice at three rupees a kilogram and wheat at two rupees a kilogram. The Bill proposes that general households will have the right to get 20 kilograms of rice. But the price should not exceed 50 per cent of minimum support price paid to farmers. Food and Consumer Affairs Minister, Prof. K.V. Thomas in an exclusive interview to All India Radio said that Government may have to provide a food subsidy of one lakh crore rupees after the Food Security Bill becomes a law.

Ten states have been selected for agriculture award for their enhanced performance in the foodgrain production. An official statement said today, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will give the newly instituted 'Krishi Karman' awards to the winning states. Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are the joint winners of the award in the category of states with overall foodgrain production of more than 10 million tonnes recorded in the last five years. Assam and Orissa get the award in the category of states with overall food grain production of between one and 10 million tonnes. Each award winning state will get a trophy, a citation and cash price of 2 crore rupees.

Former Union Minister and veteran Communist leader Chaturanan Mishra passed away in New Delhi today following a massive heart attack. He was 87.Mr. Mishra held many positions in the Communist Party of India and All India Trade Union Congress. As a freedom fighter, he participated in the Quit India movement. A three time member of Bihar Legislative Assembly from 1969 to 1980, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1984 and 1990 and to the Lok Sabha in 1996 from Madhubani constituency.
He was a Cabinet Minister for Agriculture in the United Front governments headed by H D Devegowda and I K Gujaral in1996. Condoling the death, CPI general secretary A B Bardhan said, his demise is an irreparable loss to the party.

In Afghanistan, a roadside bomb has ripped through a van, killing 13 civilians, including two children and four women. Bahrain offered some concessions ahead of talks which include establishment of a panel to investigate deaths and arrests of protesters and plans to withdraw most of the Saudi troops. But the government has not relented on opposition demands to free all detainees and clear others convicted of protest-linked charges. Nearly 32 people were died in the unrest since the protests began in February, which was inspired by uprisings elsewhere in the Middle East.According to spokesman of the National Dialogue, the goal of the dialogue is to reach a consensus with everyone and bringing together all elements of Bahraini society to heal the nation so that it can move forward to a brighter future. Indians visiting Britain can travel to Ireland now without visa. The visa waiver was announced in Dublin today. The waiver programme will run until October 2012, a period that includes the London 2012 Olympics. A large number of Indian and other tourists are expected to visit Britain during this period. Currently, Indian citizens need a visa to enter Ireland.
