नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री अजीतसिंह ने निजी विमान सेवाओं को आर्थिक संकट से उबारने के लिए सरकार द्वारा सहायता पैकेज दिये जाने की संभावना से इन्कार किया है। उन्होंने आज नई दिल्ली में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में यह बात कही।

सरकार निजी विमान कम्पनियों को आर्थिक संकट से उबारने के लिए सहायता पैकेज नहीं देने जा रही है, लेकिन एयर इंडिया सरकार की जिम्मेदारी है। बाकी कम्पनियों को अपने पैसे के लिए कारोबार के प्रबंधन में सुधार करना होगा और बैंकों को संतुष्ट करना होगा।
श्री अजीत सिंह ने स्पष्ट किया कि सरकार, एयर इंडिया को भी आर्थिक संकट से उबारने के लिए बार बार पैसा नहीं दे सकती। इसके प्रबंधकों को ज्यादा प्रतिस्पर्द्धी बनने के लिए अपने कारोबार के प्रबंधन में सुधार करना होगा। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि नागर विमानन महानिदेशालय और उड्डयन मंत्रालय यात्रियों की सुरक्षा से कोई समझौता नहीं करेगा और सभी विमान सेवाओं को सुरक्षा के नियमों का पालन करना होगा।

वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने आज नई दिल्ली में कृषि विशेषज्ञों के साथ बजट पूर्व विचार विमर्श किया। आम बजट से पहले विभिन्न क्षेत्रों के विशेषज्ञों की राय जानने के लिए होने वाली बैठको के तहत आज कृषि विशेषज्ञों की राय जानने के लिए ये बैठक हुई। बैठक के बाद संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में भारतीय किसान एसोसिएशनों के परिसंघ के महासाचिव टी छगन रेड्डी ने कहा कि कृषि विशेषज्ञों ने सरकार से इस क्षेत्र में निवेश बढ़ाने का अनुरोध किया। उन्होंने भण्डारण क्षमता बढ़ाने की भी अपील की। उन्होंने कहा कि इससे मुद्रास्फीति पर काबू पाने में सहायता मिलेगी। कृषि क्षेत्र के बाद वित्त मंत्री उद्योग जगत के प्रतिनिधियों और अर्थशास्त्रियों के साथ बैठकें करेंगे और आगामी बजट के लिए उनके विचार जानेगे।
वित्त मंत्री मजदूर संघों के नेताओं और सामाजिक क्षेत्र से जुड़े समूहो के प्रतिनिधियों से भी मिलेगे। सरकारी सूत्रों के अनुसार बैंकों और वित्तीय संस्थानों के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकरियों के साथ वित्त मंत्री की बैठक इस महीने की १९ तारीख को होने की संभावना है। इसमें बैंकों में और पूंजी डालने और ऋण, बीमा और ब्याज दर जैसी विभिन्न वित्तीय सेवाएं आसानी से उपलब्ध कराने जैसे मुद्दों पर प्रमुखता से चर्चा होने की संभावना है। श्री मुखर्जी जाने माने अर्थशास्त्रियों के साथ बैठक में देश की वित्तीय स्थिति का जायजा लेंगे और मौजूदा कठिन आर्थिक परिस्थिति से निपटने के उपायों पर विचार-विमर्श करेंगे। चालू वित्त वर्ष की दूसरी तिमाही में विकास दर गिरकर छह दशमलव नौ प्रतिशत रह गई जो पिछली नौ तिमाही मे सबसे कम है। प्रमुख उद्योगपतियों के साथ बजट पूर्व विचार विमर्श इस महीने की ३१ तारीख तक पूरा हो जाने की संभावना है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि विकास दर में गिरावट औद्योगिक उत्पादन में कमी, बढ़ता राजकोषीय घाटा कुछ ऐसे मुद्दे हैं जिन पर प्रमुखता से चर्चा होगी। बातचीत के दौरान प्रत्यक्ष कर संहिता और वस्तु तथा सेवा कर जैसे कर सुधार प्रस्तावों पर भी विचार विमर्श होगा।

उत्तराखण्ड के टिहरी गढ़वाल जिले में एक सड़क दुर्घटना में कम से कम १२ लोगों के मारे जाने की आशंका है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि दुर्घटना शायद खराब मौसम के कारण हुई।

टिहरी गढ़वाल जिले के अतिरिक्त जिला मजिस्ट्रेट वंशीधर तिवारी ने बताया कि हादसे की शिकार राज्य सड़क परिवहन निगम की बस देहरादून से बादकोट जा रही थी। उन्होंने बताया कि हादसे में गंभीर रूप से घायल चार लोगों को देहरादून के लिए रेफर कर दिया गया है। दुघर्टना की वजह पाला पड़ने से सड़क  पर फिसलन बताई जा रही है। इस बीच, राज्य के पर्वतीय अंचल में बर्फबारी के साथ पाला पड़ने और बारिश से सड़क हादसे बढ़ गये है। इसके अलावा बिजली आपूर्ति और दूरसंचार सेवायें भी बाधित हो गई है। राघवेश पांडे, आकाशवाणी समाचार, देहरादून।
इससे पहले सोमवार को पिथौरागढ़ में एक वाहन पर चट्टान गिर जाने से हुई दुर्घटना में ११ लोग मारे गये थे।

मणिपुर में विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए नामांकनपत्र भरने का आज आखिरी दिन है। राज्य के विभिन्न जिलों में चुनाव नियंत्रण कक्षों से प्राप्त खबरों के अनुसार अब तक करीब १५० उम्मीदवारों ने अपने नामांकनपत्र दाखिल किये हैं। कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता और राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री ओकरम इबोबीसिंह, कांग्रेस की राज्य ईकाई के अध्यक्ष गयेखंगम, मणिपुर पीपुल्स पार्टी के अध्यक्ष डॉ० निमाईचन्द लुवांग, पूर्व केन्द्रीय राज्यमंत्री चाओबा सिंह, तथा भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के नेता और राज्य के कृषि मंत्री परिजात सिंह ने भी अपने नामांकनपत्र भर दिये हैं। राज्य में इस महीने की २८ तारीख को मतदान होगा।

उत्तरप्रदेश में विधानसभा चुनाव की प्रक्रिया कल पहले चरण के मतदान के लिए अधिसूचना जारी करने के साथ ही शुरू हो जाएगी। हमारे लखनऊ संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि पहले चरण में लखनऊ, फैजाबाद, देवीपाटन और बस्ती डिवीजनों के दस जिलों में ५५ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में मतदान होगा। नामांकनपत्र भरने का काम अधिसूचना जारी होने के साथ शुरू हो जाएगा और १९ जनवरी तक पर्चे दाखिल किये जाएंगे। २३ जनवरी तक नाम वापस लिये जा सकेंगे। इन ५५ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में कुल मिलाकर १३ हजार १८६ मतदान केन्द्र बनाए जाएंगे। एक करोड़ ७० लाख ४४ हजार ५६१ मतदाता पहले चरण में वोट डाल सकेंगे।
निर्वाचन आयोग ने एक हजार से अधिक मतदान केन्द्रों से मतदान प्रक्रिया का वेब प्रसारण करने का फैसला किया है। अर्द्धसैनिक बल इन निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में पहले ही पहुंच चुके हैं। चुनाव प्रक्रिया को प्रभावित करने के लिए धन बल और काले धन के इस्तेमाल पर काबू पाने के वास्ते निर्वाचन आयोग ने हर निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में एक प्रेक्षक तैनात करने का फैसला किया है, जो उम्मीदवारों के खर्चो पर नजर रखेगा।

पंजाब में चुनाव प्रचार के लिए पहली बार आधुनिकतम साधनों का इस्तेमाल किया जा रहा है। सभी बड़े राजनीतिक दल और विभिन्न उम्मीदवार इन्टरनेट का इस्तेमाल करते हुए सोशल नेटवर्किंग साइट्स पर मतदाताओं को रिझाने के लिए प्रयास कर रहे हैं। इन अभियान में विभिन्न प्रकार के चुनावी नारे, वीडियो क्लिप और कार्टूनों के अलावा लोकप्रिय फिल्मी गानों की तर्ज पर अपनी पार्टियों के लिए बनाये गये गीतों पर जोर है। ये चुनाव सामग्री फेसबुक और यूट्यूब पर उपलब्ध है और ऑन लाइन वोर्टस इसे काफी पसन्द कर रहें हैं। हमारे जालंधर संवाददाता ने बताया है कि कांग्रेस, शिरोमणि अकाली दल, पीपुल्स पार्टी ऑफ पंजाब और भारतीय जनता पार्टी के कुछ उम्मीदवार इस हाईटैक अभियान में खुद शामिल हैं, जबकि कई उम्मीदवारों ने पेशेवर लोगों और कपनियों की सेवाएं ली है।

उत्तरप्रदेश में हाथियों और बहुजन समाज पार्टी की नेता मायावती की मूर्तियों को ढकने के निर्वाचन आयोग के आदेश को चुनौती देने वाली जनहित याचिका को याचिकाकर्ता ने वापस ले लिया है। इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य न्यायाधीश रफत आलम की अध्यक्षता वाली पीठ ने आज कहा कि ये याचिका, नियमों के अनुसार दायर नहीं की गई है। न्यायालय ने कहा कि जनहित याचिका में कुछ खामियां हैं और याचिकाकर्ता से उन्हें दूर करने को कहा गया। न्यायालय ने याचिकाकर्ता को नई याचिका दायर करने की भी अनुमति दी।

नई दिल्ली आ रही ब्रह्‌मपुत्र मेल आज सवेरे झारखंड में एक मालगाड़ी से टकरा गई, जिससे पांच लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई और चार घायल हो गये। यह दुर्घटना साहिबगंज से करीब २५ किलोमीटर दूर कर्णपुरतो में हुई। रेलवे के जनसंपर्क अधिकारी अनिल सक्सेना ने बताया कि सुबह पांच बजकर पचास मिनट पर कर्णपुरतो से गुजर रही ब्रह्‌मपुत्र मेल मुख्य लाइन पर खड़ी मालगाड़ी से टकरा गई, जबकि रेलवे पुलिस अधीक्षक प्रवीण श्रीवास्तव के अनुसार ब्रह्‌मपुत्र मेल का एक डिब्बा पटरी से उतर गया और मालगाड़+ी से टकरा गया।
रेल मंत्री दिनेश त्रिवेदी ने दुर्घटना पर शोक व्यक्त किया है। उन्होंने प्रत्येक मृतक के परिजनों को पांच-पांच लाख रूपये की अनुग्रह राशि और गंभीर रूप से घायलो को ५०-५० हजार रूपये की सहायता राशि देने की घोषणा की। मामूली रूप से घायलों को १०-१० हजार रुपये दिये जायेंगे।

भारत माली को बिजली ट्रांसमीशन परियोजनाओं के लिए दस करोड़ डॉलर का ऋण देगा। भारत यात्रा पर आये माली के राष्ट्रपति अमादऊ तौमानी तौरे और प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन ने आज नई दिल्ली में  शिष्टमंडल स्तर की वार्ता के बाद इस बारे में समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये। आपसी सहयोग को बढ़ावा देने के लिए दोनों पक्षों ने भूगर्भ और खनिज संसाधनों के क्षेत्र में सहयोग के समझौते पर भी हस्ताक्षर किये। बातचीत के बाद एक संयुक्त वक्तव्य पर भी हस्ताक्षर किये गये जो बाद में जारी किया जाएगा। विदेश मंत्रालय के सूत्रों ने बताया कि दोनों नेताओं ने हाइड्रो कार्बन और अन्य महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रों में सहयोग बढ़ाने के लिए कई उपायों पर व्यापक विचार-विमर्श किया।
इससे पहले, माली के राष्ट्रपति का आज सुबह राष्ट्रपति भवन के प्रागंण में रस्मी स्वागत किया गया। आकाशवाणी से बातचीत में माली के राष्ट्रपति अमादऊ तौमानी तौरे ने कहा कि उनका देश भारत के साथ आर्थिक सहयोग बढ़ाने का इच्छुक है।
भारत ने आर्थिक और बुनियादी ढांचे के विकास के लिए जिन नौ देशों का चयन किया है, उनमें माली भी शामिल है। श्री तौरे चार दिन की राजकीय यात्रा पर कल नई दिल्ली पहुंचे थे। राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील अमादऊ तौमानी तौरे के सम्मान में रात्रि भोज देंगी। माली के किसी शीर्ष नेता की यह पहली भारत यात्रा है।

बंगलादेश की प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना आज अगरतला पहुंच रहीं हैं।  हवाई अड्डे पर केन्द्रीय मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल, त्रिपुरा के राज्यपाल डॉक्टर डी वाई पाटिल और मुख्यमंत्री माणिक सरकार उनकी अगवानी करेंगे। त्रिपुरा और बंगलादेश से लगी ८५६ किलोमीटर की अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सीमा को देखते हुए क्षेत्र के औद्योगिक विकास और संड़क संपर्क सुविधाओं को बढ़ाने के लिए बंगलादेश की प्रधानमंत्री की यह यात्रा बहुत महत्वपूर्ण हो सकती है।
पिछले वर्ष प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह की बंगलादेश की ऐतिहासिक यात्रा के बाद शेख हसीना की यह पहली भारत यात्रा है। त्रिपुरा के वित्त मंत्री बादल चौधरी ने कहा है कि बंगलादेश की प्रधानमंत्री की यात्रा से केवल त्रिपुरा ही नहीं समूचे पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र के विकास के लिए नई राह खुलेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि शेख हसीना की यात्रा के दौरान कई बकाया मुद्दों पर बातचीत हो सकती है जिनमें पारगमन की सुविधा का मुद्दा भी शामिल है। उन्होंने बताया कि अगरतला से ढाका के बीच सीधी विमान सेवा और बंगलादेश होते हुए अगरतला से कोलकाता तक की बस सेवा जैसे मुद्दों पर भी चर्चा होने की संभावना है।

ट्रिनीदाद और टोबेगो की प्रधानमंत्री कमला प्रसाद बिसेसर आज बिहार के बक्सर जिले में अपने पुश्तैनी गांव भेलपुर गईं।  हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि श्रीमती बिसेसर के माता-पिता १२२ साल पहले ट्रिनीदाद और टोबेगो चले गये थे, लेकिन उनके नजदीकी संबंधी अब भी इस गांव में रहते हैं।

गांव के मन्दिर में उन्होंने पूजार्चना की। गांवों के लोगों ने चंदा इकट्ठा कर जो चांदी का मुकुट खरीदा था, उसे प्रधानमंत्री को भेंट किया गया। गांव की मिट्टी भी उन्हें उपहार में दिया गया। प्रधानमंत्री की विदाई में उन्हें साड़ी, मांग टीका और अन्य सामग्री भी  दी गई। लोगों ने स्वागत में प्रधानमंत्री कमला प्रसाद बिसेसर इस कदर भाव विवल हो गई, उनकी आंखों में खुशी के आंसू आ गये। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए पटना से कृष्ण कुमार लाल।

विदेश मंत्री एस. एम. कृष्णा पश्चिम एशिया की चार दिन की यात्रा के अंतिम चरण में आज पश्चिमी किनारे का दौरा कर रहे हैं। वे आज फलस्तीन की राजधानी रमल्लाह जाएंगें। श्री कृष्णा फलस्तीन के राष्ट्रपति महमूद अब्बास से मुलाकात करेंगे। दोनों नेताओं के बीच विभिन्न मुद्दों पर व्यापक बातचीत की संभावना है। विदेशमंत्री, फलस्तीन मुक्ति संगठन के संस्थापक यासिर अराफात के मकबरे पर श्रद्धासुमन अर्पित करेंगे। भारत हमेशा से फलस्तीन को समर्थन देता रहा है और वह पहला गैर अरब देश है जिसने फलस्तीन को एक अलग राष्ट्र के रूप मे १९८० मे मान्यता दी थी।
इससे पहले,  श्री कृष्णा ने कल इस्राइल के प्रमुख नेताओं से मुलाकात की और इस्राइल के साथ प्रत्यर्पण संधि तथा कैदियों की अदला-बदली  के बारे में समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।

फलस्तीनी गुट फतह ने कहा है कि जॉर्डन में इस्राइल और फलस्तीन के बीच जो सीधी बातचीत हुई है उसके कोई नतीजे नहीं निकलेंगे। फलस्तीनी मुक्ति संगठन की कार्यकारिणी की सदस्य हनान अश्रवई ने रामल्ला में कहा कि इस्राइल अड़ियल रवैया अपना रहा है जो शांति प्रक्रिया के अनुरूप नहीं है। सुश्री हनान ने कहा कि इस्राइल जब तक पश्चिमी किनारे पर बस्तियां बसाने का काम नहीं रोकता और १९६७ की सीमाओं के आधार पर फलस्तीनी राष्ट्र की स्थापना पर सहमत नहीं होता, तब तक फलस्तीन के लोग उसके साथ फिर से बातचीत नहीं शुरू करेंगे।

नेपाल में निर्वाचन आयोग ने कहा है कि जब भी राजनीतिक दल कहेंगे तभी वह चुनाव कराने के लिए तैयार है। काठमांडू में कल संवाददाता सम्मेलन में कार्यवाहक मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त नीलकांत उप्रैती ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री ने स्थानीय निकायों के चुनाव कराने की संभावना का जिक्र किया और आयोग ने इस बारे में अपना सकारात्मक संदेश दे दिया है। श्री उप्रैती ने कहा कि निर्वाचन आयोग १२० दिन के भीतर किसी भी तरह के चुनाव करा सकता है। निर्वाचन आयोग ने ७३ जिलों में फोटो पहचान पत्रों के साथ दस लाख ६३ हजार से अधिक मतदाताओं का पंजीकरण किया है। आयोग को मई तक इस सूची में सात लाख और मतदाताओं के नाम जुड़ने की आशा है क्योंकि दो जिलों बांके और रूपनदेही में पंजीकरण की प्रक्रिया अभी पूरी होनी बाकी है।
उधर, नेपाल के उच्चतम न्यायालय ने संविधान सभा का कार्यकाल बढ़ाने पर रोक लगा दी है। मौजूदा संविधान सभा का कार्यकाल २७ मई को समाप्त हो रहा है। संवैधानिक संस्था के रूप में स्थापित अधिकारों के दुरूपयोग की जांच पड़ताल से संबंधित आयोग ने भी स्थानीय निकायों का काम चलाने के लिए सभी पार्टियों वाली व्यवस्था को समाप्त करने का निर्देश जारी किया है। निर्वाचित प्रतिनिधियों की अनुपस्थिति में इस समय स्थानीय निकाय, ग्राम विकास समितियां, नगर पालिकाएं और जिला विकास समितियां तदर्थ आधार पर काम कर रही हैं।

निकारागुआ में श्री डेनियल ऑर्टेगा ने  राष्ट्रपति पद की फिर शपथ ली है। इस पद पर श्री ऑर्टेगा का यह तीसरा कार्यकाल होगा। नवंबर में हुए चुनावों में उन्हें जोरदार विजय प्राप्त हुई। मुख्य विपक्षी दल ने राजधानी मानागुआ में आयोजित शपथ ग्रहण समारोह का यह कहते हुए बहिष्कार किया कि चुनावों में धोखाधड़ी की गई और यह असंवैधानिक हैं। वेनेजुएला के नेता ह्‌यूगो शावेज और ईरान के राष्ट्रपति महमूद अहमदीनेजाद तथा कुछ अन्य नेता शपथ ग्रहण समारोह में मौजूद थे।

पाकिस्तान में अमरीकी ड्रोन  हमले में कम से कम चार आतंकवादी मारे गए हैं। यह हमला अफगान सीमा के नजदीक उत्तर वजीरिस्तान के मीरनशाह में हुआ। अमरीकी सेना ने इस घटना पर सार्वजनिक रूप से कुछ नहीं कहा है। अगर वह हमले की पुष्टि करती है तो यह अफगान सीमा पर पिछले नवंबर में नैटो के हेलीकॉप्टर हमले के बाद, पहले अमरीकी हवाई आक्रमण की कार्रवाई मानी जाएगी। नवंबर के हमले में २४ पाकिस्तानी सैनिक मारे गए थे और इससे अमरीका और पाकिस्तान के बीच संबंधों में तनाव पैदा हो गया था। इसके बाद पाकिस्तान ने अफगानिस्तान से लगी अपनी सीमा को बंद कर दिया था जिससे नैटो के महत्वपूर्ण सप्लाई मार्ग कट गए थे।

बम्बई शेयर बाजार के संवेदी सूचकांक में आज शुरूआती कारोबार में ५७ अंकों से अधिक की वृद्धि के साथ १६ हजार २२२ पर पहुंच गया। लेकिन बाद में इसमें उतार-चढ़ाव होने लगा। अब से कुछ देर पहले यह १६ हजार १६८ पर था। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्‌टी भी ४ हजार ८५४ पर था।
अन्तर बैंक विदेशी मुद्रा बाजार में आज रूपया डॉलर के मुकाबले २० पैसे कमजोर हुआ। एक डॉलर की कीमत ५१ रूपये ९० पैसे हो गई।
कल रूपये में डॉलर के मुकाबले ८१ पैसे की मजबूती आई थी और एक डॉलर की कीमत ५१ रूपये ७० पैसे हो गई थी।

एशियाई कारोबार में आज खनिज तेल के दाम में कमी हुई। फरवरी में आपूर्ति वाले न्यूयॉर्क के लाइट स्वीट क्रूड के दाम में ५४ सैंट की गिरावट आई और ये १०१ डॉलर ७० सैंट प्रति बैरल हो गया। ब्रेंट नॉर्थ सी क्रूड की कीमत में भी ३९ सैंट की कमी हुई और ये ११२ डॉलर ७९ सैंट प्रति बैरल हो गयी।

हिमाचल प्रदेश में जनजीवन धीरे-धीरे सामान्य होता जा रहा है लेकिन कई इलाकों में वाहनों की आवाजाही अब भी अस्त व्यस्त है। हमारी संवाददाता ने बताया है कि कुछ क्षेत्रों में पानी और बिजली आपूर्ति अब भी ठीक से नहीं हो पा रही है।

समूचा हिमाचल प्रदेश अब भी ठंड की चपेट में है। राज्य भर में आज तापमान काफी कम है और ठंडी बर्फानी हवायें चल रही है। चंबा जिले के भरमौर क्षेत्र में बिजली और पानी की आपूर्ति आज भी बहाल नहीं हो पाई। इस बीच, भरमौर और चंबा के बीच सड़क खोलने के प्रयास जारी है। लोकनिर्माण विभाग के अधिकारी गोवर्धन सिंह ठाकुर ने आकाशवाणी को बताया।

यातायात के लिए तमाम गर्वमेंट की मशीनरी लगी हुई है। मैनपॉवर में हमारी लेबर होती है, वो लगे हुए है। छोटी गाड़ियों कें लिए बहाल हो गया है यातायात डिस्ट्रिक हैड र्क्वाटर से सीधे हैड र्क्वाटर तक।
शिमला के कई उपरी इलाके शेष राज्य से अभी भी कटे हुये है और जगह-जगह वाहन कोहरे की वजह से फंसे हुये है। कल मुख्य सचिव की अध्यक्षता में हुई उच्चस्तरीय बैठक में स्थिति का जायजा लिया गया और प्रशासन को यातायात, बिजली तथा पानी की आपूर्ति बहाल करने के लिए उचित कदम उठाने के लिए निर्देश दिये गये। इस बीच, शिमला, मनाली और धर्मशाला में बड़ी संख्या में पर्यटक बर्फबारी का आनंद लेने के लिए पहुंच रहे है। नन्दिनी मित्तल, आकाशवाणी समाचार, शिमला।

दिल्ली सरकार ने बेघर लोगों को कड़ाके की ठंड से राहत दिलाने के लिए १३० से अधिक रैन बसेरे स्थापित किए हैं। इनमें शौचालय, बिजली, बिस्तरों, कंबलों, पानी और निःशुल्क डॉक्टरी देखरेख की सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराई गई हैं। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार दिल्ली शहरी रैन बसेरा सुधार बोर्ड ने इन स्थानों की  देखरेख के लिए राजधानी के प्रतिष्ठित स्वयंसेवी संगठनों का सहयोग लिया है।
बोर्ड बेघर लोगों को सड़कों से हटाकर रैन बसेरों में ले जाने पर ध्यान दे रहा है। उसके द्वारा इन लोगों को प्राथमिक चिकित्सा और बेहतर स्वास्थ्य सुविधाएं भी मुहैया कराई जा रही हैं। विज्ञप्ति में यह भी बताया गया है कि बोर्ड इन रैन बसेरों में बेघर बच्चों को अनौपचारिक शिक्षा और व्यावसायिक प्रशिक्षण देने पर भी विचार कर रहा है।

तमिलनाडु की मुख्यमंत्री जे. जयललिता ने घोषणा की है कि समुद्री तूफान थाने से फसल को हुए नुकसान की भरपाई के लिए २१० करोड़ रूपये का मुआवजा दिया जाएगा। आज जारी वक्तव्य में कहा गया है कि इस तूफान से करीब दो लाख २४ हजार हेक्टेयर  क्षेत्र में फसल तबाह हो गई है। मुख्यमंत्री ने काजू, नारियल और कटहल जैसी फसलों के किसानों को हरसंभव सहायता का आश्वासन दिया। वक्तव्य के अनुसार सरकार ने पौध के मुफ्त वितरण की योजना भी बनाई है, जिसके तहत एक वर्ष तक रख रखाव भी शामिल है। कृषि मजदूरों को मनरेगा के तहत भुगतान किया जाएगा। सुश्री जयललिता ने कहा कि राज्य सरकार  किसानों को दलहन के लिए बीज और उर्वरकों सहित मिनी किट मुहैया करेगी। उन्होंने बताया कि क्षतिग्रस्त बिजली लाइनों की मरम्मत के काम में करीब आठ हजार कर्मचारियों को तैनात किया जाएगा।

केरल सरकार मुल्लापेरियार बांध से संबद्ध सुरक्षा पहलुओं को ध्यान में रखकर आपदा के खतरों में कमी लाने और इससे संबंधित आपात योजना बनाने के बारे में इस साल मार्च में तिरूवनंतपुरम में एक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कार्यशाला आयोजित करेगी और प्रदर्शनी लगायेगी। केरल के राजस्व मंत्री थिरूवंचूर राधाकृष्णन ने बताया कि छह देशों और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगठनों के विशेषज्ञ दो दिन की कार्यशाला और सप्ताह भर की प्रदर्शनी में भाग लेंगे।

असम में मतदाताओं के नामों की जो ताजा अंतिम सूची प्रकाशित हुई है उसमें एक लाख ५६ हजार से अधिक मतदाताओं के बारे में संदेह है। अंतिम मतदाता मतदाता सूची इस महीने की ५ तारीख को प्रकाशित हुई है।  इससे पहले मसौदे के रूप में पिछले साल अक्टूबर में मतदाता सूची प्रकाशित की गई थीं। तब से इस वर्ष पहली जनवरी तक वोट डालने वालों की संख्या में दो दशमलव दो एक फीसदी की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई है। राज्य सरकार ने विदेशियों से संबंधित ३६ ट्रायब्यूनल गठित किए हैं ताकि संदेहपूर्ण मतदाताओं के लंबित मामलों को जल्दी निपटाया जा सके।

गुजरात में आज अहमदाबाद में साबरमती नदी के किनारे चार दिन का रंगारंग अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पतंग उत्सव विधिवत शुरू हुआ। आज सवेरे एक समारोह में राज्यपाल डॉ कमला बेनीवाल और मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने उत्सव का शुभारंभ किया। हमारे अहमदाबाद संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि इस कार्यक्रम में पतंग उड़ाने वाले दो सौ से अधिक लोग भाग ले रहे हैं जिनमें ७५ विदेशी भी शामिल हैं। इस अवसर पर श्री मोदी ने कहा कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पतंग उत्सव ने गुजरात को विश्व के पर्यटन मानचित्र पर स्थापित कर दिया है। डॉ कमला बेनीवाल ने मकर संक्रांति के अवसर पर लोगों को बधाई दी है।

Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh today ruled out any possibility of a bailout package for private airlines by the government. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Mr Singh said that government is only responsible for Air India which is a public sector undertaking. The Minister, however, said that the government can not keep on pouring in money to bailout Air India and the management needs to restructure its business management to become more competitive.

At least 12 people are feared killed in a road accident in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand today. As per official sources, the cause of the accident may be inclement weather. Earlier 11 people were killed in an accident in Pithoragarh on Monday when a bolder fell on a vehicle. According to Additional District Magistrate Vanshidhar Tiwari, the state-run transport bus was on way from Dehradun to Badkot when it skidded off the hilly road and rolled into a 200 metre deep gorge this morning near Nainbagh on the border of Tehri-Uttarkashi districts. Confirming the death toll of 11 passengers he told AIR that four seriously injured passengers have been referred to Dehradun. Meanwhile the snowfall in higher reaches and rains in lower parts of the state have caused road blocks, power and communication network disruptions and accidents in various parts of Uttarakhand. Five persons were today killed and four others injured in a collision between the New Delhi-bound Bramhaputra Mail and a goods train at Karonpuroto, about 25 kilometres from Sahibganj in Jharkhand. The accident occurred at 5.50 AM when the train was on its way to New Delhi from Dibrugarh.
Railway PRO Anil Saxena said, five persons were killed in the mishap. Giving details of the mishap, he said, the Brahmaputra Mail was passing through Karonpuroto when a stationary goods train parked on the main line started rolling back. While it was rolling back, it hit the Bramhaputra Mail. However, Superintendent of Police (Rail) Praveen Srivastav said, a bogie of the Bramhaputra Mail derailed and dashed against a stationary goods train.
Condoling the loss of lives in the mishap, Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi announced a compensation of five lakh rupees each for those killed and 50,000 rupees for those seriously injured. Passengers with simple injuries, will get a compensation of 10,000 rupees.

India will provide 100 million US dollar line of credit to Mali for Power Transmission projects. An agreement to this effect was signed after the delegation level talks between  Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and the visiting Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure in New Delhi today.  A pact on cooperation in the field geology and mineral resources was also signed to intensify cooperation in this area.  A joint statement was also signed after the talks.  MEA sources said that the two leaders held detailed discussions on a host of issues including strengthening cooperation in the field of hydro- carbon and other strategic areas. 
Earlier in the morning, Mali President was accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan.  Speaking to AIR after the reception, Mr.Toure said that his country is also looking forward to economic cooperation with India.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago Kamla Prasad Bissessar today visited her ancestral place at Bhelpur village in Buxar district of the state.  Mrs Bissessar overwhelmed after meeting her ancestors and villagers as well. Villagers welcomed the daughter of their soil in a traditional manner. Though her parents migrated to Trinidad & Tobago 122 years ago, her close relatives still live in the village. In Uttar Pradesh, the PIL challenging the Election Commission's order on the draping of statues of elephants and BSP leader Mayawati, has been withdrawn by the petitioner. Taking up the issue today, the Allahabad High Court Bench headed by Chief Justice Rafat Alam observed that the petition was not filed as per the norms. The court said that the PIL was defective and asked the petitioner to rectify it.
The court also allowed the petitioner to file a fresh petition in the case.

In Uttar Pradesh, the poll process for Assembly elections begins from tomorrow with the issuance of notification for the first phase of elections.
Our Lucknow correspondent reports that election will take place in 55 constituencies spread over 10 districts from Lucknow, Faizabad, Devipatan and Basti divisions. Nominations begin with the issuance of notification while January 19 is last date for nominations and candidates can withdraw their papers by January 23. A total of 13 thousand 186 polling centers have been set up in all 55 constituencies going for poll in this phase. One crore 70 lakhs 44 thousand 561 electorates will exercise their franchise in this phase.
The Election Commission has decided to web cast poll process from more than one thousand polling centers. Para military forces have already reached in these constituencies. To check the money power and black money from influencing the poll process, the Commission has decided to deploy one observer in every constituency to keep an eye on expenditure of candidates.

In Assam, over one lakh, 56 thousand voters have been labeled as ‘Doubtful’ voters in the latest published final electoral rolls of the state. The final electoral rolls published on the 5th of this month, taking 1st January, 2012 as the qualifying date, registered a 2.21 per cent increase of voters in the state compared to the draft electoral rolls published in October last year. The State government has set up 36 Foreigners Tribunals to expedite the process of disposal of cases pending against the ‘Doubtful’ voters.

The Palestinian group Fatah has said that the direct talks with Israel that took place in Jordan, would not yield any results. The PLO Executive Committee Member, Hanan Ashrwai said in Ramallah that Israel is adopting a rigid stand which is opposed to the peace process. She said that the Palestinians will not resume negotiations with the Israel unless it freezes settlement activities in the West Bank and agrees for establishing a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. NEWS ON PRE-BUDGET CONSULTATION
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today held pre- Budget discussions with agriculturalists in New Delhi. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Chagan Reddy  said that experts in agriculture urged the government to increase investment in this area. They also called for improving supply chain to increase storage capacity. He said this will also help in curbing the inflation.  Mr. Mukherjee is scheduled to hold a series of interactions with sectoral experts to get their feedback and inputs for considering incorporation in the Budget for 2012-13.
The Finance Minister will also meet trade union leaders . According to the official sources, meeting with CEOs of banks and financial institutions is likely to be scheduled on the 19th of this month. Issues like bank recapitalisation, access to affordable financial services, especially credit, insurance and interest rates are likely to be discussed in the meeting. Mr. Mukherjee will also meet eminent economists to discuss the country's financial health and hammer out solutions for the difficult economic situation at present. The current fiscal has been difficult for the economy, with growth slipping to 6.9 per cent in the second quarter, the lowest in nine quarters.
The pre-Budget consultations are likely to end with a meeting with the captains of industry on the 31 of this month. Our Correspondent reports that a wide range of issues like policy initiatives to fight sluggishness in growth, slump in industrial output and rising fiscal deficit targets are likely to come up for discussion. Impending tax reforms like Direct Taxes Code and Goods and Services Tax may also figure in the discussions.

In Assam, the health department will launch "Janani Shishu Suraksha" programme to improve the health condition of pregnant women and newborn babies. निर्वाचन आयोग ने केंद्र सरकार से कहा है कि जब तक पांच राज्यों में होने वाले विधानसभा चुनाव संपन्न नहीं हो जाते,  उत्तर प्रदेश, उत्तराखंड, गोवा, पंजाब और मणिपुर में अन्य पिछडे वर्गो- ओ बी सी- के कोटे से अल्पसंख्यकों के लिए साढे चार प्रतिशत आरक्षण की व्यवस्था लागू न की जाय। निर्वाचन आयोग ने इस बारे में आज शाम एक विज्ञप्ति जारी कीं ।
ओ बी सी के २७ प्रतिशत आरक्षण के कोटे में अल्पसंख्यकों के लिये साढे चार प्रतिशत आरक्षण की यह व्यवस्था इस साल पहली जनवरी से लागू की गयी थी। यह मामला कई विपक्षी दलों ने निर्वाचन आयोग के साथ उठाया था। उनकी शिकायत थी कि यह चुनाव आचार संहिता के खिलाफ है।

कांगे्रस ने भारतीय जनता पार्टी की इस बात के लिए आलोचना की है कि वह अपने राजनीतिक बयानों में बटवारे और विभाजन जैसे शब्दों का इस्तेमाल कर रही है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता मनीष तिवारी ने अन्य पिछड़े वर्गो- ओ बी सी- के कोटे में अल्पसंख्यकों के लिए आरक्षण देने को भाजपा द्वारा दूसरे विभाजन की संज्ञा देने को खेदजनक बताया।

बंटवारा, विभाजन इस तरह की शब्दावली को राजनीतिक डिस्कोर्स में ले के आना यह अपने-आप में ही बहुत ही निन्दनीय बात है और इनकी जो संकीर्ण मानसिकता है, यह उसका प्रतीक है।
उधर भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने कांगे्रस पर वोट बैंक की राजनीति करने का आरोप लगाया है । पार्टी नेता उमा भारती ने नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों से कहा कि कांगे्रस चुनावी लाभ के लिए लोगों की धार्मिक और जातिगत भावनाओं से खेल रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि कांगे्रस ओ बी सी के कोटे में अल्पसंख्यकों को ९ प्रतिशत आरक्षण का वायदा करके उनके तुष्टीकरण में लगी है।

उत्तर प्रदेश में निर्वाचन आयोग ने आज तेरह वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों का तबादला कर दिया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि इनमें छह जिला मजिस्टे्रट और सात जिला पुलिस प्रमुख हैं।

निर्वाचन आयोग के निर्देश पर गाजियाबाद, हरदोई, चन्दौली, ललितपुर और प्रतापगढ़ के जिला अधिकारी और बस्ती और मुरादाबाद के पुलिस उप-महानिदेशकों के साथ-साथ बहराइच, संत कबीर नगर, जौनपुर, संत रविदास नगर बदोही, उन्नाव और इटा के पुलिस अधीक्षकों को हटा दिया गया है।  आयोग को इन अधिकारियों के विरूद्व सत्तारूढ़ दल बहुजन समाज पार्टी के लिए पक्षपातपूर्ण तरीके से कार्य करने की शिकायतें मिली थी।  आयोग ने हआए गए अधिकारियों को निर्वाचन कार्य में शामिल नहीं करने के भी निर्देश दिए हैं।  राज्य में ५५ विधानसभा क्षत्रों के चुनाव के लिए कल अधिसूचना जारी हो रही है।  सुनील शुक्ल/आकाशवाणी समाचार/लखनऊ।

इसबीच, प्रदेश में सीमापार से घुसपैठ रोकने के लिए भारत-म्यांमा सीमा सील कर दी गई है। असम राइफल्स ने भारत-म्यांमा सीमा से सटे चंदेल जिले में कल एक घुसपैठ के प्रयास को विफल करते हुए एक घुसपैठिये को मार गिराया। उसके पास से विस्फोटक और हथियार बरामद हुए। असम राइफल्स के सूत्रों ने बताया कि मणिपुर में विधानसभा चुनाव की घोषणा के बाद घुसपैठ के तीन प्रयास विफल किये जा चुके हैं।

सरकार ने कहा है कि देश में कुपोषण की गंभीर समस्या से निपटने के लिए समन्वित बाल विकास योजना - को नया रूप दिया जा रहा है। महिला तथा बाल विकास मंत्री कृष्णा तीरथ ने आज नई दिल्ली में संवाददाताओं को बताया कि इस नयी योजना को देश के चुने हुए दो सौ जिलों में लागू करने और चार लाख आंगनबाडी कार्यकर्ता भर्ती करने का प्रस्ताव है। श्रीमती तीरथ ने कहा कि यह कार्यकर्ता, माताओं को अपने बच्चे को समुचित पौष्टिक आहार देने के बारे में जागरूक करेंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि इस बारे में जल्दी ही एक प्रस्ताव मंत्रिमंडल में भेजा जायेगा। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रस्तावित राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा विधेयक से इस समस्या से निपटने में मदद मिलेगी।
कल प्रधानमंत्री डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा था कि पांच साल तक के ४२ प्रतिशत से अधिक बच्चे कुपोषण का शिकार हैं और यह देश के लिए शर्म की बात है।

सरकार ने प्याज का निर्यात मूल्य एक सौ डालर कम कर दिया है। नई दिल्ली में विदेश व्यापार महानिदेशालय की एक अधिसूचना में कहा गया है कि प्याज की दो किस्मों को छोड़कर बाकी सभी का निर्यात मूल्य अब डेढ़ सौ डालर प्रति टन होगा। प्याज की बंगलौर रोज और कृष्णापुरम किस्मों का दाम तीन सौ डालर से घटाकर ढाई सौ डालर कर दिया गया है।
अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाजार में प्रतिस्पर्धा को देखते हुए प्याज उत्पादकों और इसके व्यापारियों ने सरकार से निर्यात मूल्य कम करने की मांग की थी। चालू वित्त वर्ष के पहले नौ महीनों में पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि की तुलना में प्याज के निर्यात में लगभग २३ प्रतिशत कमी आई, क्योंकि प्याज के निर्यात का दाम ढाई सौ डालर प्रति टन था।

वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने बजट से पहले विभिन्न संगठनों के साथ विचार -विमर्श के सिलसिले में आज नई दिल्ली में कृषि विशेषज्ञों के साथ  बैठक की। बैठक के बाद भारतीय किसानों के परिसंघ ने सरकार से कृषि क्षेत्र में निवेश बढ़ाने को कहा। कृषि जिन्सों की सप्लाई बढ़ाने के लिए भंडारण क्षमता में वृद्धि करने के लिए भी विशेषज्ञों ने सलाह दी।
अगले साल के बजट की तैयारी के सिलसिले में वित्त मंत्री अगले तीन हफतें में विभिन्न संगठनों और विशेषज्ञों से बातचीत करेंगे। विचार- विमर्श का यह दौर ३१ जनवरी को समाप्त होगा।

पूर्व राष्ट्रपति डॉ० ए.पी.जे. अब्दुल कलाम ने कहा है कि बढ़ती जनसंख्या की खाद्य आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए २०२० तक खाद्यान उत्पादन बढ़ाकर ३४ करोड़ टन करने की आवश्यकता है। डॉक्टर कलाम ने कहा कि देश को दूसरी हरित क्रांति के लिए तैयारी करनी होगी और किसानों को इसमें महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभानी होगी। डॉक्टर कलाम आज नई दिल्ली में लाल बहादुर शास्त्री स्मारक व्याख्यान दे रहे थे।

दिल्ली पुलिस ने पत्रकार शिवानी भटनागर हत्या मामले में आज उच्चतम न्यायालय में एक याचिका दायर कर निलंबित आईपीएस अधिकारी रविकांत शर्मा और अन्य को बरी किये जाने को चुनौती दी है। दिल्ली पुलिस ने दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय के पिछले वर्ष के उस आदेश के खिलाफ अपील दायर की है, जिसमें रविकांत शर्मा और दो अन्य को संदेह का लाभ देते हुए बरी किया गया था। उच्च न्यायालय ने केवल प्रदीप शर्मा को दोषी करार दिये जाने को बरकरार रखा। प्रदीप शर्मा उन चार लोगों में एक है जिन्हें निचली अदालत ने दोषी पाया था।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने निर्वाचन आयोग से कहा है कि वह उत्तरप्रदेश में विधानसभा चुनावों में जनजातियों को अनुपातिक प्रतिनिधित्व देने के मामले की जांच करे। एक याचिका की सुनवाई करते हुए न्यायालय ने, इन चुनावों के लिए निर्देश जारी करने से इंकार कर दिया। न्यायालय ने आयोग से कहा कि वह जनगणना महापंजीयक से प्राप्त आंकड़ों के आधार पर जनजातीय सीट के बारे में विचार करे।

चण्डीगढ़ में सीबीआई की विशेष अदालत ने आज पंजाब और हरियाणा उच्च न्यायालय की पूर्व न्यायाधीश निर्मल यादव और अन्य के खिलाफ रिश्वत मामले की सुनवाई चार फरवरी तक टाल दी है। सीबीआई ने विशेष सरकारी वकील अनुपम गुप्ता की नियुक्ति का जोरदार समर्थन किया, जिसे चुनौती दी गई थी। न्यायमूर्ति यादव आज सीबीआई की विशेष अदालत में न्यायाधीश ऋतु टैगोर के समक्ष उपस्थित हुई।

पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री यूसुफ़ रज+ा गिलानी ने पद का दुरुपयोग करने के आरोप में केंद्रीय रक्षा सचिव को उनके पद से हटा दिया है।  बी.बी.सी के अनुसार प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय की ओर से एक बयान जारी करके कहा गया है कि प्रधानमंत्री गिलानी ने लेटिनेंट जनरल नईम खालिद लोधी को पद से हटा दिया है।    बयान के अनुसार प्रधानमंत्री ने कैबिनेट सचिव नरगिस सेठी को रक्षा सचिव के पद का अतिरिक्त कार्यभार संभालने के आदेश दिये हैं।दूसरी ओर, सेना ने सार्वजनिक रूप से प्रधानमंत्री यूसुफ़ रज+ा गिलानी की निंदा की है।

विदेश मंत्री एस एम कृष्णा ने पश्चिम एशिया के चार दिन के दौरे के अंतिम चरण में रामल्ला में फलस्तीनी नेताओं से बातचीत की है।  लगभग दस साल के अंतराल के बाद किसी भारतीय विदेश मंत्री की इस क्षेत्र की यह पहली यात्रा है। यात्रा के दौरान भारत और इस्राइल के बीच प्रत्यर्पण  संधि और बंदियों की अदला-बदली पर समझौता हुआ। श्री कृष्णा रामल्ला में शीर्ष फलस्तीनी नेताओं से मिले और फलस्तीन को भारत का समर्थन जारी रखने पर जोर दिया।

The Election Commission has asked the government to with hold 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities in five poll bound states for now. The Commission order says that the direction will remain in force till the poll process is over in the five states. The government has taken a decision on the 22nd of last month to give this share to minorities out of the 27 per cent OBC quota. 
The Commission took the decision taking into account the fact that the decision was taken before the model code of conduct came into force on the 24th of last month. The matter was brought to the notice of the Commission by  several opposition parties. They complained to the poll panel that it is a violation of the code of  conduct.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission today shifted 13 senior administrative and police officers including six district Magistrates and seven district police Chiefs. More from our correspondent.
 "On the direction of the Commission, district magistrates of Ghaziabad, Hardoi, Chandauli, Lalitpur, and Pratapgarh have been replaced. Similarly Deputy Inspector General of Basti and Moradabad and district police chiefs of Baharaich, Sant Kabir Nagar, Jaunpur, Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi, Unnao and Etah have also been shifted. The Commission had received several complaints against these officers for their alleged biased working style in the favour of ruling Bahujan Samaj Party. The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission to examine a plea for providing proportional representations to Scheduled Tribes in Uttar Pradesh in future assembly elections. However, it declined to pass any direction for the up coming polls. A Bench of the apex court asked the Commission to consider a tribal petitioner's plea to provide the benefit by evaluating the necessary seats after obtaining relevant data from the Registrar-General of Census  operations.

The Government today said that the integrated child development scheme, ICDS, is being restructured to address the serious problem of malnutrition in the country.  Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, the Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Krishna Tirath said that four lakh additional Anganwadi workers are proposed to be added to the work force in 200 focused districts across the country for its effective implementation.
The Minister said the additional workers will also  inform and educate the mothers about the importance of giving proper nutrition.  She said, a proposal is being sent to the Cabinet soon in this regard.

The government today lowered the minimum export price of onion by a 100 US dollars a tonne to 150 US dollars per tonne to boost outbound shipments which have declined. A notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in New Delhi that the minimum export price (MEP) of all varieties of onions except Bangalore Rose onions and Krishnapuram onions will be  150 US dollars per tonne. 
It also said that the export price of Bangalore Rose and Krishnapuram onions have also been reduced marginally to 250 US dollars a tonne from  300 US dollars atonne earlier. Onion growers and traders have been demanding a slash in the export price to keep the commodity competitive in the international market.

The Delhi Police today filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the acquittal of suspended IPS officer Ravi Kant Sharma and others in journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case. The police  filed the appeal against the last year's verdict of the Delhi High Court acquitting R K Sharma and two others by giving them benefit of doubt.The high court had only upheld the conviction of Pradeep Sharma, one of the four persons, found guilty by the trial court.

A division bench of the Supreme Court today passed a split verdict on the plea of a Pakistani national challenging his conviction and death sentence awarded to him in the 1997 Delhi blast case. In view of the split verdict, the matter has been referred to the Chief Justice. Pakistani National, Mohammad Hussain, was convicted and sentenced to death in November 2004 by the trial court for his role in the blast in a blue line bus in Delhi in 1997. Four persons were killed and 24 were injured in the blast.

The Pakistan Army today said that criticism of Pakistan's military by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will have serious ramifications for the country. Reacting sharply to Yousuf Raza Gilani's contention that the army Chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani  and ISI Chief Lt. Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha had acted in an illegal manner in the memo scandal,  an army statement said these remarks could have very serious ramifications with potentially grievous consequences. Meanwhile, Mr Gilani has sacked his defence secretary. He is considered close to the Army Chief. A senior official said that Retired Lt. Gen  Naeem Khalid Lodhi has been removed from his post for gross misconduct.

India today offered a 100 million US Dollars line of credit to Mali for developing a power transmission project in the land-locked West African country. The agreement was signed after the delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and the visiting Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure in New Delhi. The two countries  agreed to scale up trade and investment and  step up counter-terror cooperation. A joint statement issued after the talks says that the two leaders  pledged to scale up bilateral ties across the spectrum.

In Jharkhand, normal rail traffic has been restored in Sahibganj - Barharwa Rail section.  Five people were killed and fifteen were injured following a collision between the New Delhi-bound Bramhaputra Mail and a goods train at  Karanpurati railway station this morning. An enquiry team from Kolkata led by Chief Security Commissioner Railway R. P. Yadav has reached the spot to investigate into the accident. Action has been taken against Assistant Station Manager Karanpurati, Driver and guard of goods  train.

The Home Ministry today sought a detailed report from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration on alleged exploitation of Jarawa tribals. A Home Ministry official said, the facts have been sought following media reports which suggested that the women of the primitive tribes were made to dance in front of tourists. The Ministry directed the local administration to find out when the video was photographed, how come the primitive tribals, who live in seclusion, came in contact with outsiders and find out the people responsible for their exploitation.

In Odisha, all poultry will be culled within a three kilomerers radius of Keranga in Khordha district following detection of bird flu. The decision has been taken after the Union Ministry of Animal Husbandry directed the Odisha Government to kill all the birds in order to prevent the spread of bird flu to other areas. About 35,000 birds including hens, chicken and ducks will be killed in the process. Meanwhile, the State Government has also stopped supply of eggs for the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in primary schools of Keranga and nearby areas and a ban has been issued on the sale of chicken.

In Sikkim, six prisoners escaped from  the State Prison at Rongyek near Gangtok this afternoon. They were all serving life-terms. The Jail officials said the absconders took the advantage of poor security during the prisoners’ normal tea-break. Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal notched up a hard-fought victory over Juan Gu of Singapore in the first round  match of the Malaysian Open Super Series in Kuala Lumpur today. Fourth seed Saina managed to prevail over her  Singaporean opponent 19-21, 21-14, 21-15 in a 56-minute battle in the women's singles event. The Indian will next take on Shao Chieh Cheng of Chinese Taipei.
In the mixed doubles competition, V. Diju and Jwala Gutta  defeated the combo of Chayut Triyachart and Lei Yao of  Singapore 21-13, 19-21, 21-16. Jwala and Diju will now face the Malaysian pair of Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh  in the second round.
