गोवा विधानसभा चुनाव में ४० सीटों के लिए मतदान शुरू हो गया है। आज उत्तर प्रदेश में भी विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए सातवें और अंतिम चरण के लिए वोट डाले जा रहे हैं। मतदान शााम पांच बजे तक चलेगा।गोवा में स्वंतत्र और निष्पक्ष मतदान के लिए सुरक्षा के व्यापक प्रबंध किए गये हैं। ४० विधानसभा क्षेत्रों के लिए नौ महिलाओं सहित कुल २१५ उम्मीदवार मैदान में हैं। निर्वाचन आयोग स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष मतदान सुनिश्चित करने के लिए सभी निर्चाचन क्षेत्रों में नई चुनाव निगरानी प्रणाली का इस्तेमाल कर रहा है।
सभी ४० सीटों पर बहुकोणीय मुकाबला है और सभी प्रमुख राजनीतिक दलों ने अपने अपने उम्मीदवार मैदान में उतारे हैं।उत्तर प्रदेश में इस चरण में मुरादाबाद, बरेली और लखनऊ मंडलों के १० जिलों की ६० सीटों पर मतदान हो रहा है।
हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि लगभग एक करोड़ ८२ लाख मतदाता १०० महिलाओं सहित ९६२ उम्मीदवारों के चुनावी भाग्य का फैसला करेंगे। इस चरण में जिन जिलों में वोट डाले जाएंगे वे हैं- बिजनौर, मुरादाबाद, भीमनगर, रामपुर, ज्योतिबा फूले नगर, बदायूं, बरेली, पीलीभीत, शाहजहांपुर और लखीमपुर खीरी।
अंतिम चरण का मतदान लगभग सभी प्रमुख राजनीति दलों के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है । भाजपा के सांसद वरूण गांधी और उनकी माता मेनका गांधी की प्रतिष्ठा भी दांव पर लगी है। रामपुर-मुरादाबाद पट्टी को समाजवादी पार्टी के मोहम्मद आजम खां का गढ़ माना जाता है।
मतदान के लिए सुरक्षा के व्यापक प्रबन्ध किए गये हैं। अर्धसैनिक बल, पीएसी और राज्य पुलिस की ७७० से अधिक कंपनियां तैनात की गई हैं। नेपाल से लगी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सीमा और उत्तराखंड के साथ राज्य की सीमा सील कर दी गई है। बरेली, मुरादाबाद, बिजनौर, बदायूं और रामपुर जिलों के संवेदनशील क्षेत्रों में भारी संख्या में पुलिस बल तैनात किए गये हैं। निर्वाचन आयोग ने मतदान प्रतिशत बढ़ाने के कई उपाय किए हैं। पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव में लगभग ५१ प्रतिशत मतदान हुआ था, जबकि लोकसभा चुनाव में केवल ४७ प्रतिशत वोट पड़े थे। मतदान के दौरान महिला मतदाताओं को प्राथमिकता देने के निर्देश जारी कर दिए गये हैं। ९८ प्रतिशत से अधिक फोटो पहचान पत्र बांट दिए गये हैं।
आज के मतदान के साथ ही पांच राज्यों में विधानसभा चुनाव के मतदान का सिलसिला खत्म हो जाएगा। उत्तराखंड, मणिपुर और पंजाब में चुनाव पहले ही संपन्न हो चुका है। सभी पांच राज्यों के चुनावों की मतगणना छह मार्च को होगी।

आंध्र प्रदेश में सत्तारूढ़ कांग्रेस के १६ विधायकों और प्रजा राज्य पार्टी के एक विधायक को पिछले वर्ष अविश्वास मतदान के दौरान सरकार के खिलाफ वोट देने के कारण सदन की सदस्यता से अयोग्य घोषित कर दिया गया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि विधानसभा अध्यक्ष एन मनोहर ने दलबदल रोकने के प्रावधान वाली संविधान की १०वीं अनुसूची के तहत कल शाम इन विधायकों की अयोग्यता के बारे में फैसला किया।आंध्र प्रदेश विधानसभा के इतिहास में एक अप्रत्याशित घटनाक्रम में कांग्रेस के १६ विधायकों को और प्रजा राज्यम पार्टी के एक सदस्य को आयोग्य घोषित कर दिया गया है। ये सभी १७ विधायक पिछले कई महीनों से कांग्रेस से निष्कासित और कड़प्पा से लोकसभा सांसद वाई एस जगनमोहन रेड्डी के साथ हैं। सीबीआई द्वारा दाखिल चार्जशीट में पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री वाई एस राज शेखर रेड्डी का नाम आने के विरोध में पिछले वर्ष अगस्त में इन सभी विधायकों ने अपना इस्तीफा विधानसभा अध्यक्ष को सौंपा था, तब कांग्रेस विधायक दल ने पार्टी विरोधी गतिविधियों का आरोप लगाते हुए तीन सदस्यों को अयोग्य घोषित करने की याचिका दाखिल की थी। इस निर्णय के बाद २९४ सदस्यों वाली विधानसभा में सत्तारूढ़ कांग्रेस के विधायकों की संख्या १५४ से घटकर १३७ हो गई है, लेकिन फिलहाल इसका रेड्डी सरकार पर कोई असर नहीं पड़ेगा, क्योंकि उसे १७ सदस्यों वाली प्रजाराज्यम पार्टी और ७ सदस्यों वाली एमआईएम पार्टी का समर्थन हासिल है। हालांकि इस निर्णय का असर सात सीटों के आगामी उपचुनाव के अलावा आगे भी राजनीतिक परिदृष्य में देखने को मिलेगा। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए हैदराबाद से लक्ष्मी की रिपोर्ट के साथ समाचार कक्ष से मैं बलबीर गुलाटी।

नागरिक उड्डयन महानिदेशालय -डी जी सी ए के एक उच्च अधिकारी को निलंबित कर दिया गया है। इस अधिकारी पर आरोप है कि उसने देशभर के २८ फ्लाइंग स्कूलों को अनुचित लाभ पहुंचाया। डी जी सी ए के संयुक्त महानिदेशक ए के सरन और दो कनिष्ठ कर्मचारियों प्रवीण कुमार और डी एस सादा को सरकार को एक सौ ९० करोड़ रूपये का नुकसान पहुंचाने के आरोप में निलंबित किया गया है। २००७ में फ्लाइंग स्कूलों को अनुचित लाभ पहुंचाने से संबंधित मामलों की जांच के बाद यह आदेश नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री अजित सिंह ने दिया। केंद्रीय सतर्कता आयोग ने भी इस मामले की जांच की थी।--
मुंबई की स्थानीय अदालत ने शहर में पिछले साल १३ जुलाई को हुये बम धमाकों के सिलसिले में गिरतार इंडियन मुजाहिदीन के दो कथित आतंकवादियों की हिरासत बढ़ा दी है। अदालत ने हारून नायक और कथित हवाला कारोबारी कुंवर नैन वजीर चंद परतीजा की हिरासत इस महीने की नौ तारीख तक बढ़ा दी है। महाराष्ट्र के आतंक विरोधी दस्ते ए टी एस ने अदालत को बताया था कि वह दिल्ली से मिली कुछ सूचनाओं और कुछ फोन कॉल के ब्यौरे के बारे में इन दोनों आरोपियों से पूछताछ करना चाहता है।--

अमरीकी राष्ट्रपति बराक ओबामा ने कहा है कि अगर ईरान परमाणु हथियार बनाता है तो उसके खिलाफ सैन्य कार्रवाई पर गम्भीरता से विचार किया जाएगा। ईरान के परमाणु कार्यक्रम को लेकर दुनियाभर में फैली चिन्ता और इस्राइल की ओर से ईरान के खिलाफ किसी कार्रवाई की आशंकाओं के बीच ओबामा का ये बयान आया है।--

Polling has begun for Assembly elections in Goa. A total of 215 candidates are in fray for 40 seats. The polling, which began at 7 AM, will end at 5 PM. The main contest is likely between the ruling Congress-NCP alliance and the BJP-Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party combine. The Congress has fielded 33 candidates, while the BJP is contesting 28 seats. The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements to ensure free and fair polls. The Commission is using innovative Poll Monitoring System in all 40 Assembly segments. This is being used for the first time in the country. Photo Identity cards have been issued to all voters in the state. In addition to this, the eligible voters have been given Voters’ slips. It is mandatory for the voters to bring either the photo identity cards issued by the Commission or the Voters’ slips at the time of voting.

In Uttar Pradesh, voting is underway for the final phase of Assembly elections. Polling is being held in 60 Assembly constituencies spread over ten districts of Lucknow, Bareilly and Muradabad divisions. The polling, which began at 7 AM, will end at 5 PM. 962 candidates, including 100 women are in the fray for this phase. 18 thousand 927 polling stations have been set up for over 1 crore 82 lakh voters. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of polls. Repolling is also progressing smoothly at two polling booths in Rasara assembly constituency of Ballia district and one booth in Modinagaar assembly segment of Gaziabad district.

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker N. Manohar has disqualified 17 MLAs including 16 belonging to the Congress for voting against the government during a No Confidence motion in December last year. The Assembly Speaker held a prolonged hearing during January over disqualification petitions filed by the Legislature Parties of the Congress and the Praja Rajyam Party, PRP. The Congress Legislature Party then filed a petition seeking disqualification of three members for their alleged anti-party activities. The CLP filed another petition seeking disqualification of 16 members this time when they defied party whip and voted against Government when the house discussed no-trust motion in December last year. Though this verdict brings down the strength of the ruling congress party in the assembly from 154 to 137 in a house of 294, there is no immediate threat as the Government is enjoying the support of 24 more MLAs from PRP and MIM. A top officer of Director General of Civil Aviation - DGCA - has been suspended for granting undue concessions to 28 flying schools across the country. DGCA's Joint Director General A K Saran and two other junior staff members - Parveen Kumar and Assistant D S Sada have been suspended on charges of causing a loss of 190 crore rupees to the public exchequer by their action. The order was passed by Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh after his review of the case relating to granting of concessions to the flying schools in 2007.

A local court in Mumbai has extended the custody of two alleged operatives of Indian Mujahideen, arrested in connection with the 13/7 Mumbai blasts. The custody of Haroon Naik and alleged hawala operator Kanwar Nain Wazeer Chand Partija has been extended till 9th March. Maharashtra ATS told the court that they want to interrogate the accused with regard to some leads received from Delhi apart from verifying some phone details.

The US President Barack Obama says, he is serious about military actions against Iran, if Tehran builds a nuclear weapon. In an interview to an Atlantic magazine, President Obama said that all options are open, including military action. Mr. Obama's comments come amidst global concerns over Iran's nuclear programme and possible pre-emptive action by Israel.

In Iran, elections for 290 member Parliament ended yesterday after almost 16 hours of polling. Counting of votes has begun immediately in the Interior Ministry in Tehran and governor's offices in the provinces. The polls opened at 8 am and were supposed to be closed at 6 pm but the Interior Ministry said that the huge turnout of voters at polling stations required a six-hour extension until midnight. Results from the provinces are expected to gradually start coming from today, with vote counts from the big cities, including the Tehran district, in the coming days. The main outcome of the elections will be out after the results of the big cities, especially the 30 seats in the capital Tehran, come in.

India has urged all political parties in Maldives to exercise restraint and to continue discussions to find a peaceful and viable solution as agreed upon under the roadmap. An External Affairs Ministry Spokesman said this in New Delhi while replying to a question about the developments in Maldives that witnessed fresh violence on Thursday. An official release said, the Maldivian people should continue necessary discussions under the All Party Consultative Committee and the People's Majlis to find a peaceful and viable solution to the present situation in the country. The spokesman reiterated India's position that this is an internal matter of Maldives and should be resolved by the people in a peaceful and democratic manner.

External Affairs Minister SM Krishna will address the Heads of Indian Diplomatic Missions in West Asia and North Africa region at Cairo today. Mr Krishna, who is on a three day visit to Egypt, is accompanied by a high level delegation. His visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral co-operation in trade and economy between India and Egypt. उत्तरप्रदेश विधानसभा चुनाव के अन्तिम चरण और गोआ विधानसभा चुनाव में तेज+ मतदान की खबर है। पहले छह घंटों में गोआ में ५० प्रतिशत से अधिक और उत्तरप्रदेश में ४० प्रतिशत से अधिक मतदान हुआ। मतदान शांतिपूर्वक चल रहा है। गोआ में मतदान की ताजा स्थिति जानने के लिये हम चलते हैं अपने संवाददाता सुनील डबीर के पास।

जी शुभ्रा जी मैं अपने साथी बालाजी प्रभुगांवकर के साथ पणजी के एक मतदान केन्द्र में खड़ा हूं। यहां पर लोगों में काफी उत्साह दिख रहा है। मतदान का शुरूआत में तो धीमे गति में मतदान हुआ, लेकिन बाद में मतदान की गति बढ़ी और मतदाता बड़ी संख्या में मतदान केन्द्रों पर पहुंचे। जगह-जगह पर अभी मतदार लम्बी कतारों में खड़े पाये गए हैं। मतदाताओं में एक खासा उत्साह नज+र आ रहा है और दोपहर एक बजे तक लगभग पचास प्रतिशत से अधिक मतदाताओं ने अपने मतदाधिकार का प्रयोग किया है। मतदान प्रक्रिया की देखरेख के लिए विशेष मोनिटरिंग प्रणाली का देश में पहली बार आज गोवा में उपयोग किया गया। चुनाव आयोग द्वारा स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष रूप से मतदान सम्पन्न कराने हेतु मतदान के साथ-साथ कड़ी सुरक्षा व्यवस्था भी की गई है और अब तक किसी प्रकार के अनुचित घटना का कोई समाचार प्राप्त नहीं हुआ है। इससे लगता है कि मतदान के प्रतिशत में आज बढ़ौतरी होगी। पिछली चुनाव की तुलना में भी। जी शुभ्रा जी।
गोआ में एक हजार ६१२ मतदान केन्द्र बनाए गये हैं। ४० महिलाओं सहित २१५ उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में हैं।

शुभ्रा जैसा कि पूरे प्रदेश में माहौल है ठीक वैसा ही दृश्य हखीमपुर खीरी में भी मुझे आज दिखाई पड़ रहा है और आज में यहां शहरी और ग्रामीण इलाकों में लगातार घूम रहा हूं। ग्रामीण इलाकों में गोलांकोकर विधानसभा क्षेत्र है और वहां पर मैं अभी पिछले एक डेढ़ घंटे से कई मतदान केन्द्रों पर गया हूं और जिस समय मैं जिस जगह खड़ा हूं, जिस मतदान केन्द्र पर वहां भी लोगों की लम्बी कतारे लगीं हुई है। मैंने थोड़ी देर पहले यहां के जिला निर्वाचन अधिकारी से भी मुलाकात की थी। वह एक मतदान केन्द्र में निरीक्षण करने के लिए पहुंचे थे, तो उन्होंने भी यही कहा कि हर जगह से उन्हों जो सूचना मिल रही है। मतदान बेहद शांतिपूर्ण तरीके से हो रहा है और हर जगह मतदाताओं की अच्छी खासी संख्यां में लोग वोट डालने पहुंच रहे हैं।

ईरान में २९० सदस्यों वाली संसद के चुनाव के लिए कल डाले गये वोटों की गिनती जारी है। मतदान के तुरन्त बाद तेहरान में गृह मंत्रालय तथा प्रान्तों में गर्वनरों के कार्यालयों में मतगणना शुरू हुई। मतदान सुबह आठ बजे शुरू हुआ और इसे शाम छह बजे समाप्त होना था लेकिन मतदाताओं की भारी भीड़ को देखते हुए इसकी अवधि छह घंटे बढ़ाकर आधी रात तक कर दी गई थी। प्रान्तों से आज से नतीजे मिलने लगेंगे। तेहरान सहित बड़े शहरों के परिणाम कुछ दिनों में प्राप्त हो जायेंगे। बड़े शहरों विशेष रूप से राजधानी तेहरान की ३० सीटों के परिणाम आने के बाद चुनाव की तस्वीर साफ हो जायेगी।

प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय में राज्य मंत्री वी० नारायणसामी ने कहा है कि कुडनकुलम परमाणु बिजली संयंत्र में प्रवेश करने से वैज्ञानिकों को रोकने सहित विभिन्न आरोपों में परियोजना का विरोध कर रहे लोगों के खिलाफ १५६ मुकदमे दर्ज किये गये हैं। उन्होंने आज चेन्नई में बताया कि विदेशों से प्राप्त धन को दूसरे मद में खर्च करने के आरोप में चार गैर सरकारी संगठनों के खिलाफ भी मामले दर्ज किये गये हैं। इसके अलावा यह भी जांच की जा रही है कि इस धन का इस्तेमाल कुडनकुलम परियोजना विरोधी प्रदर्शनों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए तो नहीं हुआ है।
श्री नारायणसामी ने कहा कि केन्द्र और राज्य सरकार द्वारा गठित दो समितियों ने संयंत्र में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को उच्चतम अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर का बताया है। उन्होंने आशा व्यक्त की कि राज्य सरकार के सहयोग से परमाणु ऊर्जा संयंत्र जल्द ही काम करना शुरू कर देगा। उन्होंने कहा कि तमिलनाडु में भारी बिजली संकट को देखते हुए केन्द्र ने राज्य को कुडनकुलम संयंत्र से बिजली की आपूर्ति बढ़ाकर एक हजार मेगावाट करने का फैसला किया है।

मुंबई क्षेत्रीय कांग्रेस समिति के पूर्व अध्यक्ष कृपाशंकर सिंह ने आज दावा किया कि ज्ञात स्रोत से अधिक संपत्ति अर्जित करने के मामले में वे निर्दोष हैं और कानून के अनुसार वे मुकदमा लड़ेंगे। मुंबई में आज पत्रकारों से उन्होंने कहा कि वे फरार नहीं है, उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि मीडिया अनुचित ढंग से उनको निशाना बना रहा है। मुंबई पुलिस की आर्थिक अपराध शाखा ने कल मुंबई में श्री सिंह और उनके परिवार वालों की एक दर्जन से अधिक चल और अचल संपत्तियों को जब्त किया था। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने भी बंबई उच्च न्यायालय के उस आदेश पर कल अंतरिम रोक लगाने से इंकार कर दिया था, जिसमें मुंबई पुलिस को श्री सिंह के खिलाफ मुकदमा चलाने और उनकी संपत्ति जब्त करने के लिए कहा गया था।

मध्यप्रदेश में इन्दौर की विशेष सी बी आई अदालत ने आर टी आई कार्यकर्ता शहला मसूद की हत्या के मामले में सबा फारूखी को इस महीने की ६ तारीख तक सी बी आई की हिरासत में भेज दिया है। आरोप है कि सबा, कथित रूप से हत्या की साजिश रचने वाली ज+ाहिदा परवेज की मित्र है और उसने इस साजिश में मदद की थी।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार विशेषज्ञों के एक दल ने पाकिस्तान में जारी हिंसा पर चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए कहा है कि ये हत्याएं वहां आम बात हो गई है और सरकार धार्मिक अल्पसंख्यकों को सुरक्षा देने में विफल रही है। विशेषज्ञों ने चेतावनी दी है कि अगर पाकिस्तान सरकार हिंसा रोकने के लिए तत्काल प्रभावी कदम नहीं उठाती है, तो स्थिति और बिगड़ सकती है।

Brisk polling is in progress in Goa and in the final phase of Utter Pradesh Assembly elections when reports last came in. Above 50 per cent votes were cast in Goa in the first six hours and more tan 40 percent in the last phase of Utter Pradesh in the same period . Our team of correspondents covering elections report the voting which started at a dull note at many places gathered momentum later.

As the election for seventh phase of election is in progress in Utter Pradesh, the district administration in 75 districts is busy in finalizing the preparations for counting to be held on 6th of March.
Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports that strict security arrangements have been made for counting. Control rooms are being set-up at each counting centre.
Our correspondent reports that the counting will be completed in approximately 32 rounds. The trends will start pouring in after 10 am. The election office sources told our correspondent only media will be allowed to use mobile phones in the counting centers. Preparations are also in full swing in Goa for counting on Tuesday next.

Union Minister for state in the Prime Minister’s office Mr. V. Narayanasamy has said 156 cases have been filed against those participating in the protests against Kudankulam power plant on various charges including preventing entry of scientists into the plant. He said in Chennai that cases have been filed against 4 NGO’s for diverting funds and enquiry is on to find out whether the diverted money had been utilized to fuel the anti- nuclear protests in kudankulam. He said the two committees constituted by the centre and state governments have said that the safety mechanism in place at the plant is of the highest international standard. Mr. Naryanasamy expressed the hope that the plant would be commissioned soon, with the co-operation of the state government. He said taking into consideration the acute power crisis in the state, the centre has decided to enhance the quantum of power to be given to Tamil Nadu from the Kudankulam plant to 1000 Mw.

Minister of State for Mines, Dinsha Patel has underlined the need for quality exploration of raw materials to meet the urgent requirement of various industries. He said this while addressing the Parliamentary Consultative Committee Meeting of the Ministry of Mines in New Delhi. Mr. Dinsha said, the detailed exploration has led to opening of several mines in the country and has made a sizeable contribution in exploration inputs for energy minerals like coal and lignite. The Minister informed that the lignite deposits established by MECL in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, have been developed for setting-up power plants in coal deficient regions of the country.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said that the Centre will not persuade banks to lend money to cash-strapped Kingfisher Airlines. Former Mumbai Regional Congress Committee chief Kripashankar Singh, facing charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, today claimed that he is innocent and will fight the case as per the law. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai today, Singh said he was not absconding as reported in some sections of media and also accused media of unfairly targeting him. The Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police had attached more than a dozen movable and immovable properties of Singh and his family in the metropolis yesterday. The Supreme Court had also refused yesterday to grant interim stay on the Bombay High Court’s order asking Mumbai Police to prosecute and attach Singh’s properties in the case.

In Madhya Pradesh, a special CBI court at Indore today sent Saba Farooqui in CBI remand till the 6th of this month in RTI activist Shehla Masood murder case. Saba is allegedly believed to be a friend of the alleged conspirator Zahida Pervez in the killing and is understood to be aware of the crime and believed to be assisting in the conspiracy. The CBI had earlier arrested Bhopal-based Interior Designer Zahida Pervez and another person Saqib Ali in connection with the killing of Shehla Masood. Both are presently in CBI custody up to the 6th March. In Bhopal, CBI officials’ recovered a car today, allegedly used by the accused during the murder. Shehla Massod was shot dead outside her residence in Bhopal on the 16th of August last year.

One powerful IED blast took place at Wangkhei under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East this morning. The incident took place at 6:15 am at the residence of the Congress candidate from Yaiskul Assembly constituency which went to polls on January 28 last. No casualty has been reported from the blast site. The area has been cordoned off and security has been tightened.

The Counting of votes after yesterday’s elections 290 member Parliament in Iran is now on. Counting began immediately in the Interior Ministry in Tehran and governor's offices in the provinces after the polls. The polls opened at 8 am and were supposed to be closed at 6 pm but the Interior Ministry said that the huge turnout of voters at polling stations required a six-hour extension until midnight 12am. Results from the provinces are expected to gradually come in on Saturday, with vote counts from the big cities, including the Tehran district, in the coming days. The main outcome of the elections will be out after the results of the big cities, especially the 30 seats in the capital Tehran, are reported.

A series of powerful storms in the American states of Indiana, Kentucky and Ohioand tornadoes have killed at least 27 people. Local police confirmed that 13 people died as tornadoes swept across three counties in the worst hit Indiana. Twelve more lost their lives in Kentucky, with two fatalities reported from Ohio. Earlier, tornadoes hit Alabama, causing widespread damage.

Expressing concern over the continued sectarian violence in Pakistan, a group of UN human rights experts has said, targetted killings have become a recurrent practice in the country, which is failing to protect the security of religious minorities. The experts warned that sectarian violence threatens to worsen if the Pakistani government does not respond swiftly and decisively to confront it. UN Independent Expert on minority issues Rita Izsak said in a statement that Sectarian violence has sadly become a recurrent practice in Pakistan, and urged the Pakistan Government to identify and prosecute the perpetrators and do everything possible to establish strengthened security measures. At least 18 Shia Muslims have been killed in a February 28 attack on a bus in Kohistan in northern Pakistan by unidentified gunmen.

In Assam, Sualkuchi is poised to take a more vigorous role to uplift the rural economy of the state. Sualkuchi which is a weaving village that produces some of the best silk in the country, provides employment to more than 25 thousand people. Official sources said, with proper implementation of various schemes, the industry has achieved an annual turnover of 150 crore rupees. Most of the Sualkuchi’s silk is woven into traditional mekhela -chadar and gamosa.Considering the potential of the industry, Assam government with the North Eastern Council has already set -up Sualkuchi Institute of Fashion Technology under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles to impart fashion-related curriculum and to create professionals to meet the varied manpower demands. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has begun process to buy nearly 500 train coaches for the phase-III. It has floated global tenders to buy trains that would have several new features and will be faster and less noisier than the existing ones. A total of 81 six-coach trains will be assembled from 486 carts and they will be put on Line 7 ( Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar) and Line 8 (Janak Puri West-Kalindi Kunj). Once the trains are assembled, 52 will be for Line 7 and 29 for Line 8. Delhi Metro's Phase-III envisages bringing another 103 kms under the Metro map and is expected to be completed by 2016. The coaches will start arriving from the latter half of 2014 and will be put in service after commissioning.

ज्योतिबाग फुले नगर में सबसे अधिक ६७ प्रतिशत मतदाताओं ने अपने मताधिकार का प्रयोग किया है जबकि सबसे कम ५९ प्रतिशत मतदान बदायु जिले में हुआ है। ज्योतिबाग फुले नगर के हसलपुर क्षेत्र में सबसे ज्यादा ७२ प्रतिशत मतदाताओं ने अपने मताधिकार का प्रयोग किया। जबकि पीलीभीत जिले के परखेड़ा और पीलीभीत जिलों में कुल ६७ प्रतिशत वोट डाले गये हैं। मतदान वाले ६० विधानसभा वाले क्षेत्रों में से ४५ में ६० से ६६ प्रतिशत तक मतदान हुआ। बिजनौर, ज्योतिबाग फुले नगर, भीमनगर और शाहजहांपुर जिलों के अधिकांश विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में ६० प्रतिशत से अधिक मतदाताओं ने अपने मताधिकार का प्रयोग किया। आज के मतदान के साथ ही प्रदेश में सात चरणों वाला विधानसभा चुनाव सम्पन्न हो गया। सभी ४०३ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में वोटों की गिनती ६ मार्च को होगी। सुनील शुक्ल आकाशवाणी समाचार लखनऊ।
लखीमपुर खीरी के निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में हुए मतदान के बारे में हमारे इलाहबाद संवाददाता की रिपोर्ट-
लखीमपुर जिले के मतदाताओं ने आज पिछले चुनाव के अपने सभी रिकार्ड तोड़ दिये। जैसाकि राज्य के बाकी छह चरणों में मतदाताओं ने जो उत्साह दिखाया था वो आज भी बाकी जिलों की तरह लखीमपुर में भी चरम पर रहा। सभी आठ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में सुबह से शाम तक मतदाताओं का पोलिंग बूथों पर तांता लगा रहा। कई ग्रामीण इलाकों में मतदाताओं की लम्बी कतारें देखने को मिली। सभी आठ विधानसभा सीटों पर ६० प्रतिशत से ज्यादा वोट पड़े। ७१ विधानसभा क्षेत्र में करीब ६८ प्रतिशत मतदान हुआ। जबकि गोला गोकड़नाथ, पलिया और मोहदी विधानसभा सीट पर करीब ३५ प्रतिशत वोट डाले गये। पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव में लखीमपुर जिले में करीब ४७ प्रतिशत वोट पड़े थे। श्यामजी अग्निहोत्री के साथ संजय प्रताप सिंह आकाशवाणी समाचार लखीमपुर खेरी।

जिला जज एच एस शर्मा ने अवैध गतिविधियां निवारण अधिनियम की विभिन्न धाराओं के तहत गुलाम मोहम्मद भट्ट और तीन अन्य लोगों-मोहम्मद सिद्दीक गनई, गुलाम गिलानी लीलू और फारूख अहमद डग्गा, के खिलाफ आरोप तय किए हैं। माना जाता है कि गुलाम मोहम्मद भट्ट, गिलानी का नजदीकी सहयोगी है। ये लोग इस समय तिहाड़ जेल में न्यायिक हिरासत में हैं। न्यायाधीश ने कहा कि सभी आरोपियों को विस्तार से आरोपों की जानकारी दे दी गई है और उन्होंने अपना अपराध कबूल नहीं किया है।
राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी ने पिछले वर्ष इन चारों के खिलाफ आरोप-पत्र दाखिल किए थे और उन पर हवाला के जरिए चार करोड़ ५७ लाख रूपये पाकिस्तान से प्राप्त करने का आरोप लगाया गया था। इस पैसे का उपयोग घाटी में आतंकवादी गतिविधियों के लिए किया जाना था। इन लोगों के पास से हवाला से प्राप्त २१ लाख रूपये बरामद किए गए थे।
इस बीच, सी बी आई के अधिकारियों ने हत्या के दौरान अपराधियों द्वारा कथित रूप से इस्तेमाल कार भोपाल में बरामद की।
वे नब्बे के दशक के प्रारंभ में कांगो में बहुराष्ट्रीय संयुक्त राष्ट्र शांति सेना के उप कमांडर और निकारागुआ तथा अल सल्वाडोर में संयुक्त राष्ट्र पर्यवेक्षक के रूप में भी काम कर चुके हैं।
श्री कृष्णा ने कहा कि भारत का मानना है कि सीरिया के संकट का समाधान सीरिया की अगुवाई में सभी संबद्ध पक्षों से बातचीत के जरिये होना चाहिए। इस मामले में कोई बाहरी हस्तक्षेप नहीं होना चाहिए।
दोनों पक्षों ने आबू धाबी में २२ और २३ मई को भारत-अरब जांच परियोजना की मेजबानी करने के बारे में भी सहमति जताई।

गोवा विधानसभा की चालीस सीटों के चुनाव में ८१ प्रतिशत और उत्तर प्रदेश विधानसभा चुनाव के अंतिम चरण में ६० सीटों के लिए ६२ प्रतिशत से अधिक वोट डाले गए।-----

उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्य चुनाव अधिकारी उमेश सिन्हा ने बताया कि मतदान कुल मिलाकर शांतिपूर्ण रहा। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि इस चरण में सौ महिलाओं सहित नौ सौ बासठ उम्मीदवारों के राजनीतिक भाग्य का फैसला इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वोटिंग मशीनों में बंद हो गया है।ज्योतिबाग फुले नगर में सबसे अधिक ६७ प्रतिशत मतदाताओं ने अपने मताधिकार का प्रयोग किया है जबकि सबसे कम ५९ प्रतिशत मतदान बदायु जिले में हुआ है। ज्योतिबाग फुले नगर के हसलपुर क्षेत्र में सबसे ज्यादा ७२ प्रतिशत मतदाताओं ने अपने मताधिकार का प्रयोग किया। जबकि पीलीभीत जिले के परखेड़ा और पीलीभीत जिलों में कुल ६७ प्रतिशत वोट डाले गये हैं। मतदान वाले ६० विधानसभा वाले क्षेत्रों में से ४५ में ६० से ६६ प्रतिशत तक मतदान हुआ। बिजनौर, ज्योतिबाग फुले नगर, भीमनगर और शाहजहांपुर जिलों के अधिकांश विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में ६० प्रतिशत से अधिक मतदाताओं ने अपने मताधिकार का प्रयोग किया। आज के मतदान के साथ ही प्रदेश में सात चरणों वाला विधानसभा चुनाव सम्पन्न हो गया। सभी ४०३ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में वोटों की गिनती ६ मार्च को होगी। सुनील शुक्ल आकाशवाणी समाचार लखनऊ।
लखीमपुर खीरी के निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में हुए मतदान के बारे में हमारे इलाहबाद संवाददाता की रिपोर्ट-
लखीमपुर जिले के मतदाताओं ने आज पिछले चुनाव के अपने सभी रिकार्ड तोड़ दिये। जैसाकि राज्य के बाकी छह चरणों में मतदाताओं ने जो उत्साह दिखाया था वो आज भी बाकी जिलों की तरह लखीमपुर में भी चरम पर रहा। सभी आठ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में सुबह से शाम तक मतदाताओं का पोलिंग बूथों पर तांता लगा रहा। कई ग्रामीण इलाकों में मतदाताओं की लम्बी कतारें देखने को मिली। सभी आठ विधानसभा सीटों पर ६० प्रतिशत से ज्यादा वोट पड़े। ७१ विधानसभा क्षेत्र में करीब ६८ प्रतिशत मतदान हुआ। जबकि गोला गोकड़नाथ, पलिया और मोहदी विधानसभा सीट पर करीब ३५ प्रतिशत वोट डाले गये। पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव में लखीमपुर जिले में करीब ४७ प्रतिशत वोट पड़े थे। श्यामजी अग्निहोत्री के साथ संजय प्रताप सिंह आकाशवाणी समाचार लखीमपुर खेरी।

सरकार ने नकदी के संकट से जूझ रही निजी विमान कंपनियों को राहत देने से फिर इंकार कर दिया है। विमानन मंत्री अजीत सिंह ने सरकार के इस रूख को दोहराते हुए, कहा कि सरकार आर्थिक संकट से ग्रस्त किंगफिशर एयरलाइंस को उधार देने के लिए बैंकों से नहीं कहेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि एयरलाइन को अपने उड़ान कार्यक्रमों का पालन करना होगा।अजीत सिंह

A record 81 percent polling has been recorded in Goa Assembly elections and above 62 percent in the last and 7th phase of Uttar Pradesh polls today. The polling was held for the 40 member Assembly in Goa and the remaining 60 seats spread over 10 districts of from Moradabad, Bareilly and Lucknow divisions of Uttar Pradesh. "The Election Commission utilised the innovative Poll Monitoring System in all the 40 Assembly Constituencies of Goa for the Assembly polls. This is the first such occasion in the electoral history of the country. There are 215 candidates in fray for total 40 seats engaged mostly in the multi-cornered contests including 74 independents and nine women with Sunil Dabir, Balaji Prabhugaonkar from Panaji."

Chief Electoral officer of Uttar Pradesh Umesh Sinha told AIR Lucknow correspondent, that polling percentage may go up as voting at several places was on even after 5 PM. AIR correspondent reports that maximum above 67 percent voters exercised their franchise in Jyoti Ba Phole Nagar district while minimum above 59 percent polling has taken place in Badaun district.
"45 constituencies out of poll bound 60 segments have recorded 60 to 66 percent voting. Most of the constituencies from Bijnore, Jyoti Ba Phole Nagar, Bheem Nagar and Shahjahanpur districts have poled more than 60 percent. This phase cover assembly seats in Ruhelkhand and Terai regions. Ruling BSP, SP and BJP have fielded their candidates from all constituencies while Congress has left 9 seats to its ally RLD. Left Parties CPI and CPIM have also fielded their nominees in 6 segments. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, The Chief Election Commissioner S.Y Quraishi said that election in these assembly constituencies remained totally fair, peaceful and incident free. He said, with the completion of today's elections, polling for all 690 Assembly Constituencies spread over 122 Districts in Five States was completed. Five states - Manipur, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Uttar Pradesh went to the polls this time. Mr. Quraishi said that the voters turnout is the highest ever.
"Highest ever turn out in history was recorded in these elections in all states except Manipur where the turn out was lower. Very interesting achievement is the highest turn out of women voters. Women were higher than men in UP, in Uttarakhand and in Manipur."

The CBI today arrested former Mayawati government Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and BSP MLA Ram Prasad Jaisawal in the NRHM scam in Uttar Pradesh. They have been arrested at New Delhi. Joint Director CBI Javed Ahemad told AIR Lucknow correspondent that the both the leaders were called at CBI head quarter for interrogation and they were taken into custody after that.
He said both the arrested leaders were produced at CBI court at Ghaziabad and the court sent them to CBI remand for 10 days. CBI had recently lodged four fresh FIRs against senior officers from medical department and some medicine and medical equipment suppliers in the state. CBI had also conducted raids at several places in the state a couple of days earlier and detained some medical officers.

CBI has also begun interrogating former Karnataka Tourism Minister G Janardhan Reddy in the illegal mining case. PTI says, the interrogation began this morning a day after Reddy was remanded to CBI custody till March 12. Additional Civil and Sessions Court Judge B M Angadi remanded him to CBI custody.Reddy and 20 others are facing charges for their alleged involvement in illegal mining. CBI filed an FIR against them in October last.
Associated Mining Corporation and Deccan Mining Syndicate owned by Reddy and his wife Aruna Lakshmi have been facing probe over charges of illegal mining. Both the firms were also involved in illegal transport of iron ore.

A Delhi Court today framed charges against a close aide of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and three others arrested for terro funding. They have been allegedly running a hawala racket to fund banned terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen in Kashmir Valley. Their trial will begin from the 16th of next month.
District Judge H S Sharma framed charges under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Ghulam Mohd Bhat, said to be Geelani's close aide and threeothers - Mohd Siddiq Ganai, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo and Farooq Ahmed Dagga. They are presently in Tihar jail under judicial custody.
The National Investgation Agency had last year filed charge sheet against the four, indicting them for procuring over 4.57 crore rupees from Pakistan through hawala channels within three years after 2008 for funding terrorist activities in the Valley.

Lt General Bikram Singh will be the next Army Chief. An official press statement says that Lt Gen Bikram Singh will succeed Gen V.K. Singh, who retires on May 31st of this year. Lt General Bikram Singh was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment on March 31st 1972. During his long and distinguished career, spanning nearly 40 years, Lt Gen Singh had served in a variety of command and staff appointments.
He has also served as Deputy Force Commander of a multi-nation UN Peace Keeping Mission in Congo and as UN Observer in Nicaragua and El Salvador during the early 90s.

The government has again declined to bail out private airlines facing cash crunch. Reiterating its stand, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said in New Delhi that the centre will not pursuade banks to lend money to cash-strapped Kingfisher Airlines. He said the airline must stick to its schedule.
"They have to meet their schedule, whatever they have annouced, whatever they have comiitted to DGCA. And passenger's safey cannot be compromised whather their accounts are seized or not, that is between them and IT. Whather they get the money from banks or not, that's between them and the banks. There is no bail out as far as Government is concerned."
Singh said the beleaguered Kingfisher Airlines cannot be closed down just because it is making losses and that banks are not helping it out with funds.

India and the Arab League have called for a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria. This came up for a discussion during the visit of External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna and the Arab League Secretary General Nabil al Arabi in Cairo today. The two leaders shared views on a wide range of issues in the Arabic world and West Asia region.
Earlier, addressing Indian Ambassadors and Heads of Mission of the region S.M.Krishna called for evolving a new mechanism for timely redressal of the grievances of Indians facing distress situations. More from AIR West Asia Correspondent:

Syrian troops shelled several districts in the flashpoint city of Homs today where a standoff continued between authorities and Red Cross workers trying to deliver medical supplies and food to those stranded in the area.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on Syria to give humanitarian workers immediate access to people who desperately need aid in its besieged cities.
In other violence, the state-run SANA news agency says a suicide car bomber killed two people in an explosion in the southern city of Deraa.

Partial results from Iran's parliamentary elections show loyalist supporters of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei have taken the lead. Early returns from provincial towns Saturday show conservative rivals of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are winning seats in several constituencies across the country. The election will have little impact on Iran's foreign or nuclear polices, but will strengthen Khamenei's position ahead of next years presidential election. Some 3,400 candidates ran for seats in the 290-member parliament.

In the United States, at least 27 people were killed in tornadoes and a series of powerful storms in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Local police confirmed that 13 people died as tornadoes swept across three counties in the worst hit Indiana. Twelve more lost their lives in Kentucky, with two fatalities reported from Ohio. Earlier, tornadoes hit Alabama, causing widespread damage.

In Kerala, naval divers have sighted the wreck of Don I, the fishing boat that sunk into the sea after it was hit by a merchant vessel last Thursday. AIR Correspondent reports that the boat was located last night by INS Sarvekshak, using side scan sonars.
" The wreck was found by a 10-member Navy Clearance Diving team from the Southern Naval Command this evening. It was found lying 45 meters beneath the sea, where the merchant vessel hit the fishing boat. The cabin of the boat was found damaged and its fuel was still leaking. The boat's hull was however intact. The naval divers will be attempting to locate the bodies of the missing fishermen inside the boat tomorrow. RAJ MOHAN AIR NEWS KOCHI."

States have asked the Centre for adequate compensation for their revenue loss due to reduction in the Central Sales Tax -CST. Otherwise, they say the levy should be increased to the earlier rate of 4 per cent. The Empowered Committee of the State Finance Ministers in New Delhi also finalised a negative list of 35 services, which will not be taxed under proposed Goods and Services Tax - GST regime.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters later that if the government does not release compensation then Center should revert to the CST levy of 4 per cent from the present 2 per cent level.
The Centre is trying to phase-out the CST to usher in the new GST regime with a single tax merging excise, service tax and states tax, like value-added tax, entry tax and purchase tax.

Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, has softened his stand against the Centre over the issue National Counter Terrorism Centre - NCTC. Speaking to media persons at Bhubaneswar today, Patnaik said the Director General of Police and Chief Secretary of Odisha will attend the NCTC meeting convened by Union Ministry of Home Affairs scheduled to be held at New Delhi.
He, however, said terrorism being a national and sensitive issue must be discussed at the highest level. He said terrorism is not only an issue for the states but for the country. He said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh must convene a meeting of all the chief ministers before taking a final decision on NCTC.

The Indian pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna have claimed the Men's Doubles title in the Dubai Open ATP Championships. They beat the Polish duo of Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg in the finals 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 in Dubai this evening. This is the first time that an Indian pair reached any International Tennis finals.

The teams of India, Japan, Thailand and Iran have entered the semi-finals of the first Women's World Cup Kabaddi championship being held in Patna. India thrashed Indonedsia today in the first quarter finals 66-20 and Japan defeated Bangladesh 17-15. In the second quarter finals, Thailand defeated Sri Lanka 30-18 and Iran beat South Korea 40-16.
