• लोकपाल विधेयक  मुद्दे पर गतिरोध दूर करने के लिए सरकार अन्ना हजारे के प्रतिनिधियों से कल फिर बातचीत करेगी। सोनिया गांधी ने अन्ना हजारे से अनशन समाप्त करने की अपील ।
• उत्तर प्रदेश के दो मंत्रियों ने, मुख्य चिकित्सा अधिकारी हत्याकांड  में नैतिक जिम्मेदारी लेते हुए त्यागपत्र दिया।
• प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा है कि केन्द्र हिंसा छोड़ने वाले किसी भी गुट से बातचीत करने को तैयार। उन्होंने अल्फा के साथ वार्ता को सफल बताया।

 भ्रष्टाचार रोधी लोक पाल विधेयक का प्रारूप तैयार करने के बारे में सरकार और प्रबुद्ध नागरिकों के बीच  बातचीत कुछ मुददों पर मतभेद के कारण आज अधूरी रही। सरकार के प्रतिनिधि और केन्द्रीय मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने बातचीत के बाद बताया कि मिली-जुली प्रारूप समिति की अध्यक्षता अन्ना हजारे को सौंपने और समिति के गठन के लिए सरकार द्वारा अधिसूचना जारी करने की मांग के बारे में मतभेद हैं।

जो दो ईशू आउट स्टेटिंग हैं वो ये हैं के मांग है कि जो ये ज्वाइंट कमेटी बनेगी उसकी चेयरमैनशिप अन्ना हजारे जी करेंगे। इसपे हमारी सहमति अभी नहीं है। दूसरी ये दो कमेटी उसका एक सरकारी नोटिफीकेशन होना चाहिए। इस डिमांड पर भी हमारी अभी सहमति नहीं है। कल सुबह इस बारे में हम दुबारा बातचीत करेंगे और देखेंगे कि कोई रास्ता निकल सकता है बाकी चीजों पर सहमति है।
  हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि इससे सरकार को अन्ना हजारे की मांग के बारे में फैसला करने के लिए विचार करने का थोड़ा समय मिल जाएगा। बातचीत में शामिल प्रबुद्ध नागरिको के प्रतिनिधि अरविन्द केजरीवाल और स्वामी अग्निवेश ने कहा कि वे चाहते हैं कि सरकार समिति के गठन के बारे मे औपचारिक अधिसूचना जारी करें।
 दूसरी ओर अन्ना हजारे ने इन खबरों का खंडन किया है कि वे समिति की अध्यक्षता करना चाहते है। उन्होंने सुझाव दिया है कि उच्चतम न्यायालय के सेवानिवृत न्यायधीश को समिति का प्रमुख बनाया जाना चाहिए।
 भ्रष्टाचार रोधी लोकपाल विधेयक की मांग को लेकर अन्ना हजारे का  अनशन आज तीसरे दिन भी जारी है। अनेक लोगों ने जन्तर-मन्तर पर इक्ट्ठा होकर अन्ना हजारे के अनशन के प्रति समर्थन व्यक्त किया।
 इस बीच, यूपीए अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी ने अन्ना हजारे से अपना अनशन समाप्त करने की अपील की है। श्रीमती गांधी ने कहा है कि उन्हें विश्वास है कि भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ श्री हजारे के विचारों पर सरकार पूरा गौर करेगी। श्रीमती गांधी ने कहा कि अन्ना हजारे हमेशा जनहित से पूरी गहराई से जुड़े मुद्दे उठाते रहे हैं। सार्वजनिक जीवन में भ्रष्टाचार समाप्त करने की तुरंत आवश्यकता के बारे में सभी एकमत हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इस से जुड़े कानून कारगर होने चाहिएं और उनसे वांछित परिणाम मिलने चाहिएं।
  भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने भी लोकपाल विधेयक के बारे में सरकार के प्रारूप को बेअसर बताते हुए कडा कानून बनाने का अन्ना हजारे की मांग का समर्थन किया है।

     भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने भी समाजसेवी अन्ना हजारे के आमरण अनशन का समर्थन किया है। पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता ए बी बर्धन ने आज चेन्नई में पत्रकारों से बातचीत करते हुए सरकार से कड़ा भ्रष्टाचार - रोधी कानून बनाने की मांग की। उन्होंने कहा कि लोकपाल विधेयक के बारे में सरकार के प्रारूप में कई खामियां हैं।

 उत्तरप्रदेश में परिवार कल्याण मंत्री बाबू सिंह कुशवाहा और स्वास्थ्य मंत्री अनंत कुमार मिश्रा ने आज त्यागपत्र दे दिया। उन्होंने एक मुख्य चिकित्सा अधिकारी की हत्या के बाद उनके विभागों में पाई गई अनियमितताओं की नैतिक जिम्मेदारी लेते हुए इस्तीफा दिया है। कैबिनेट सचिव शशांक शेखर सिंह ने लखनऊ में पत्रकारों को बताया कि मुख्यमंत्री मायावती ने उनके इस्तीफे राज्यपाल बी.एल. जोशी को भेज दिए हैं।
 परिवार कल्याण विभाग में काम कर रहे मुख्य चिकित्सा अधिकारी डॉक्टर बी.पी. सिंह की दो अप्रैल को गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी गई थी। तब वे सवेरे अपने घर के पास टहल रहे थे।
 कैबिनेट सचिव ने यह भी बताया कि परिवार कल्याण विभाग के प्रधान सचिव प्रदीप शुक्ला को हटा दिया गया है।

 प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा है कि केन्द्र, हिंसा छोड़ने वाले किसी भी उग्रवादी संगठन से बातचीत करने को तैयार है। असम में बाड़पेटा में आज एक चुनावी रैली में उन्होंने कहा कि जटिल समस्याएं भी बातचीत से हल की जा सकती हैं। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि अल्फा नेताओं के साथ उनकी हाल की बातचीत लाभकारी रही है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह ने राज्य के अन्य उग्रवादी संगठनों से भी संविधान के दायरे में बातचीत के लिए आगे आने की अपील की।

प्रधानमंत्री डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने बाप बेटा के चुनावी सभा के दौरान असम में विकास की गति को बनाये रखने के लिए आम लोगों से कांग्रेस उम्मीदवारों के पक्ष में वोट देने की अपील की। दूसरी ओर भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेता नरेन्द्र मोदी ने चुनावी सभा में यह आरोप लगाया कि कांग्रेस पार्टी बंगला देसियों को वोट बैंक के रूप में इस्तेमाल कर रही है। असम गण परिषद के परिभूषण चौधरी और एनसीपी के नेता तारीख अनवर और अगासा संगवा ने भी चुनाव प्रचार किया।  रमणीकांत शर्मा के साथ गोवाहाटी से कृष्ण कुमार लाल।
 राज्य में, दूसरे दौर का मतदान ११ अपै्रल को होगा। इसमें १४ जिलों के ६४ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में वोट डाले जाएंगे।

 पश्चिम बंगाल में विधानसभा चुनाव के चौथे चरण के लिए अधिसूचना जारी होने के साथ ही आज नामांकन पत्र भरने का काम श्ुारू हो गया। इस चरण में ६३ सीटों के लिए तीन मई को वोट डाले जाएंगे। इस बीच दूसरे चरण के लिए तीन सौ दस नामांकन पत्र दाखिल किए गए हैं। नामांकन पत्रों की जांच कल होगी।

 राज्य की भाजपा इकाई का मानना है कि पिछले साल के  लोकसभा और पंचायत चुनावों के बाद राज्य के राजनीतिक समीकरण  बहुत बदल गए हैं। पार्टी की राज्य इकाई के अध्यक्ष राहुल सिन्हा ने आज कोलकाता में पत्रकारों से कहा कि भाजपा, राष्ट्रीय लोकतांत्रिक गठबंधन के शासन के दौरान बेहतर शासन व्यवस्था के आधार पर लोगों  से वोट मांगेगी।

 केरल में विधानसभा चुनाव में तीन दिन रह गए हैं। चुनाव प्रचार में शामिल पार्टियां और नेता, विकास के मुद्दों से ज्+यादा आपसी आरोप-प्रत्यारोप में लगे हुए हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि राज्य के सभी १४ जिलों में प्रचार अपने अंतिम चरण में पहुंच गया है।

राजनीतिक चेतना से परिपूर्ण राज्य में चुनावी प्रचार के दौरान व्यक्तिगत आक्षेप करने का दौर बढ़ गया है। इस बीच मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी के निर्देश पर पालाकाट के जिला निर्वाचन अधिकारी ने मुख्यमंत्री वी एस अच्चुतानंदन अपनी प्रतिद्वंद्वी यूडीएफ उम्मीदवार रूचिका सुभाष के बारे में कथित टिप्पणी के सम्बन्ध में रिपोर्ट भेज दी है। उधर, अच्चुतानन्दन ने उनके बयान को गलत अर्थों में न लेने का मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी से अनुरोध किया है। कांग्रेस के ए के एंटनी  और भाजपा नेता सुषमा स्वराज ने कोटायन में चुनाव प्रचार किया। रामकृष्ण पिल्लई के साथ राघवेश पांडे आकाशवाणी समाचार तिरूवंतपुरम।

 तमिलनाडु विधानसभा के लिये मतदान के केवल पांच दिन बचे हैं। लगभग सभी राजनीतिक दलों के राष्ट्रीय नेताओं  के राज्य के दौरे से चुनाव प्रचार चरम पर है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि वैसे तो मैदान में कई पार्टियां मौजूद हैं, लेकिन मुख्य मुकाबला सत्तारूढ डीएमके पार्टी वाले मोर्चे और विपक्षी अन्ना द्रमुक वाले गठबंधन के बीच रहेगा।

तमाम विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में उम्मीदवार महत्वपूर्ण नेताओं का दौरा करने की कोशिश में लगे हुए हैं। कांग्रेस महासचिव राहुल गांधी ने भी आज कुच्ची कुटी जिले में एक चुनाव सभा को सम्बोधित किया। राहुल गांधी ने विकास, उद्धार एवं महिलाओं के लिए और अवसर उपलब्ध कराने के लिए यूपीए सरकार के साथ डीएमके सरकार को राज्य के लिए जरूरी बताया। वहीं सीपीआई नेता ए वी बर्धन ने आज चेन्नई में कहा कि पैसों और उपहारों के बल पर वोट पाने की कोशिशों पर चुनाव आयोग की कड़ाई स्वागत योग्य कदम है।

 उधर, पुडुचेरी में कांग्रेस महासचिव राहुल गांधी ने कहा कि केन्द्र की यू.पी.ए. सरकार देश से गरीबी मिटाने और सभी वर्गों के विकास के  हर सम्भव प्रयास करेगी। विलियानूर में एक चुनावी सभा में उन्होंने कहा कि तेज+ विकास से गरीबों को लाभ होगा, इसीलिए सभी कार्यक्रम गरीबों और समाज के कमजोर वर्गों को  लक्ष्य में रखकर बनाए गए हैं।

 भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने गोवा के शिक्षा मंत्री बाबू मानशेराट को े बर्खास्त करने की मांग की है। श्री मानशेराट को मुम्बई हवाई अड्डे पर स्वीकृत सीमा से अधिक विदेशी मुद्रा ले जाते हुए पकड़ा गया था। पार्टी प्रवक्ता प्रकाश जावड़ेकर ने आज नई दिल्ली संवाददाताओं से कहा कि कांगे्रस को  भ्रष्टाचार में लिप्त अपने नेताओं के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई करनी चाहिये।

सरकार ने रसायन उद्योग के नियमों को युक्तिसंगत बनाने के लिए एक कार्यदल बनाया है। योजना आयोग के सदस्य अरुण मेहरा इसके अध्यक्ष होंगे। रसान और उर्वरक मंत्रालय में संयुक्त सचिव एस सी गुप्ता ने नई दिल्ली में बताया कि भारत के रसायन उद्योग को रसायनों के सुरक्षित उपयोग के बारे में यूरोपीय समुदाय द्वारा निर्धारित नियमों के बारे में जागरूक करने की आवश्यकता है। ये नियम जून २००७ में तय किए गए थे।

 सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्रालय, देश भर के सामुदायिक रेडियो स्टेशनों के प्रसारण का दायरा बढ़ाने और उन्हें अधिक कार्यकुशल बनाने के लिए धन उपलब्ध कराने के तौर-तरीकों पर विचार कर रहा है। नई दिल्ली में पहले राष्ट्रीय सामुदायिक रेडियो सम्मेलन के उदघाटन के बाद सूचना औेर प्रसारण मंत्री अंबिका सोनी ने पत्रकारों से  कहा कि सरकार, सांसद स्थानीय क्षेत्र विकास निधि की मदद से सामुदायिक रेडियो स्टेशन खोलने का एक प्रस्ताव तैयार कर रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस बारे में सांसदों को एक प्रस्ताव भेजा जायेगा।
 श्रीमती अंबिका सोनी ने सामुदायिक रेडियो स्टेशनों को विज्ञापनों के लिये डी ए वी पी द्वारा बहुत कम दर दिये जाने पर चिंता व्यक्त की।

डीएवीपी के जो एड का रेट है उसको बढ़ाने के लिए हमने पहले ही किसी को नियुक्त किया है के सुझाव दें और उससे हम कोशिश करेंगे इनको मदद करने की इसके अलावा मैंने कहा है कि मंत्रालय और जगहों से पता कराकर जैसे दूसरे मुल्कों में कम्युनिटी, रेडियो स्टेशन फंड की स्थापना की गई है हमें भी कुछ ऐसा देखना चाहिए।

 बिहार सरकार ने राज्य के करीब साढ़े तीन करोड़ बच्चों को स्वास्थ्य कार्ड देने के लिए नई पीढ़ी स्वास्थ्य गारंटी योजना शुरू की है। मुख्यमंत्री नीतिश कुमार ने बिहार राज्य स्वास्थ्य मिशन की बैठक की अध्यक्षता करते हुए कहा कि बच्चों को स्वास्थ्य कार्ड देने के लिए तेजी से काम करने की आवश्यकता है। राज्य के स्वास्थ्य सचिव अमरजीत सिन्हा ने बताया कि स्वास्थ्य मंत्री अश्विनी कुमार चौबे इस मिशन के अध्यक्ष होंगे।

 खाद्य पदार्थों की मुद्रास्फीति २६ मार्च को समाप्त हुए सप्ताह में घटकर चार महीने में सबसे कम ९ दशमलव एक-आठ प्रतिशत रह गई। इससे पहले के हफ्ते में यह साढ़े नौ प्रतिशत थी। मुद्रास्फीति की दर लगातार दूसरे हफ्ते दहाई से नीचे है। इस सप्ताह के दौरान दालों की कीमतों में वार्षिक आधार पर ५ दशमलव तीन-नौ प्रतिशत की कमी हुई।

मुम्बई शेयर बाजार में आज लगातार तीसरे दिन गिरावट दर्ज की गयी और सेंसेक्स २१ अंक की मामूली कमी के साथ १९ हजार ५९१ अंकों पर बंद हुआ। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी छह अंक गिरकर पांच हजार ८८६ अंकों पर आ गया। आज एक डॉलर की कीमत ४४ रुपये बीस पैसे रही। राजधानी के सर्राफा बाजार में आज चांदी दो सौ रुपये उछलकर ५८ हजार छह सौ रुपये प्रति किलो पर पहुंच गयी, लेकिन सोना ३५ रुपये की गिरावट के साथ २१ हजार २६५ रुपये प्रति दस ग्राम पर आ गया।

     भारतीय नागरिक गोपाल दास २७ साल बाद पाकिस्तान की जेल से छूटकर आज अपने घर लौट आया। पाकिस्तान के अधिकारियों ने गोपाल दास को अटारी-वाघा सीमा चौकी पर भारतीय अधिकारियों को सौपा। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि अटारी-वाघा सीमा चौकी पर अपने बड़े भाई आनंद वीर और दो बहनों के साथ इतने बरसों बाद उसकी मुलाकात बड़ी भावुक रही।

गोपालदास की बहनें एवं भाई आनन्द वीर गोपाल दास को दो दशकों से भी ज्यादा समय के बाद देखने पर अपने आंसू नहीं रोक पाये। ऐसा ही हाल खुद गोपाल दास का भी था। पंजाब के गुरूदास पुर जिले में स्थित अपने गांव भैंडी मियां खांपहुंने पर गांव वासियों द्वारा गोपाल दास का भव्य स्वागत किया गया। उनके नजदीकी रिश्तेदारों ने घर पहुंचने पर गोपालदास की आरती उतारी और उनकी कुशल वापसी पर भगवान का शुक्रिया अदा किया। गुरूदास पुर से इंद्रजीत वाजपा के साथ आकाशवाणी के लिए राजेश बाली।
 १९८४ में अनजाने में पाकिस्तान की सीमा में घुस गए गोपालदास को १९८७ में जासूसी के आरोप में आजीवन कारावास की सजा दी गई थी। पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली ज+रदारी ने २७ मार्च को मानवीय आधार पर गोपाल दास की बाकी बची सजा माफ कर दी थी।

Talks between the government and civil society leaders remained inconclusive today to draft an anti-corruption Lok Pal Bill due to differences on some issues. Speaking to reporters after the second round of talks today, government's representative and Union Minister Kapil Sibal said, differences persist on their demand that the joint drafting committee be headed by Anna Hazare and on issuing a government notification about the constitution of the committee.

Appealing Anna Hazare to break his fast-unto-death, he said that he will hold another round of talks with these representatives tomorrow. The UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has also appealed to Anna Hazare to give up his fast saying that she was sure that his views will receive the government's full attention in fight against corruption. Meanwhile, Anna Hazare has denied that he wants to head the committee and suggested that a retired Supreme Court Judge should head such a panel. A large number of people joined Hazare at Jantar Mantar today to pledge their support for the agitation launched by him. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ms Ambika Soni said that the decision on the drafting Anti Corruption bill can not be taken in haste and it needs a larger debate at the  national level involving all sections of the society. She said this while talking to reporters on the sideline of a function in New Delhi.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the telecom policies on grant of licenses and spectrum today invited suggestions from the public in general, experts and organisations on the issue.  The Committee, headed by Congress MP P C Chacko, has sought views and suggestions ,in various formats, from various stakeholders on the subject within two weeks.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that the Centre is ready to talk to any militant group which shuns violence. Addressing an election rally at Barpeta in Assam this afternoon, Dr. Singh said that talks are the main way to solve even complex issues. The Prime Minister said his recent talks with the ULFA leaders were fruitful. The Prime Minister appealed to other militant groups of the state to come forward to talk with the Government within the parameter of the Constitution.

The second and the concluding phase of elections in the state will be held in 64 constituencies comprising 14 districts on April 11. Meanwhile, re-polling in ten polling booths of six Assembly constituencies in Barak valley passed off peacefully.

300 nominations have been filed for second phase of elections to the West Bengal State Assembly to be held on the 27th of this month. Elections in this phase would be held in Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas Districts. For the fourth phase of poll to be held on the third of next month, up to now 11 nominations have been filed so far. In Tamil Nadu only five  days are left for polling and electioneering has reached a feverish pitch. AIR correspondent reports that  a number of parties are in the fray but the battle is most likely between the ruling DMK front and the opposition AIADMK led alliance in most of the constituencies. In Kerala with hardly three days left for active campaigning for the assembly poll, more than developmental issues, mutual allegations dominate the last leg of intense campaigning underway in all fourteen districts. More national leaders of Congress, CPIM and BJP are slated to reach Kerala in coming days to give further fillip to campaigning.

Uttar Pradesh Family Welfare Minister Babu Singh Khushwaha and Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra today resigned from the Cabinet owning moral responsibility for the irregularities detected in their departments after murder of a CMO of the state. Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said taking moral responsibility for the irregularities in their respective departments both the ministers have willingly sent their resignations to Chief Minister Mayawati, which she has forwarded to Governor B L Joshi. Chief Medical Officer of Family Welfare Dr B P Singh was shot dead in Lucknow on  2nd of this month near his house during a morning walk. Cabinet Secretary Singh said that Principal Secretary (family welfare) Pradeep Shukla has also been removed after serious financial irregularities were detected in the department.

Indian national Gopal Das today came home after he was set free by Pakistan government. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari had remitted his sentence following an appeal by the Indian Supreme Court. Das's family members and a few people from Bhaini Mian Khan village of Gurdaspur district of Punjab received him. Lamenting that he had lost the golden period of his youth behind the bars in Pakistan, Gopal Das asked the Indian government why it was silent for the last 27 years.

Gopal Dass, soon after entering his motherland India, thanked God. It was an emotional reunion of brothers and sisters when he embraced them at Attari border. His brother Anand Vir and sisters Krishna Devi and Asha Rani were in tears seeing him after more than two decades. Gopal Dass was also unable to hold back his tears.         

A resident of Punjab’s Bhaini Mian Khan village in Guradaspur Distt., Gopal Dass was given a hero’s welcome by the villagers when he reached there.

Das said that 32 Indian nationals, who have completed their jail term in Pakistan, are still languishing there.

The government has set up a task force to rationalise chemicals industry rules. It  will be headed by Arun Maira,Member of Planning Commission. Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers Joint Secretary S C Gupta said today  in New Delhi, there is a need to make the chemicals industry aware of the issues related to REACH . Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of  Chemicals (REACH) there are the European Community set of rules for ensuring safe use of chemicals. With took effect in June, 2007. REACH seeks to streamline and framework on chemicals of the European Union . AIR correspondent reports, compliance with REACH provides access to a market of 30 European countries with 550 million people.

Food inflation fell to 9.18 per cent for the week ended March 26, the lowest level in almost four months. Food inflation stood at 9.50 per cent in the preceding week. The last time food inflation was lower than this level was during the week ended November 27 last year, when it was registered at 8.69 per cent. The latest numbers also mean that food inflation is in single digits for the second consecutive week. During the week under review, prices of pulses fell by 5.39 per cent on an annual basis. However, other food items continued to exhibit an upward trend in terms of the rate of price rise. Food inflation was in double digits for most of the last fiscal and it has shown signs of slight moderation since the last week of February.

In Afghanistan, six security personnel were killed and 10 others injured  today as Taliban gunmen detonated a bomb hidden in an ambulance at a police centre near the southern city of Kandahar. According to Kandahar governor's office, three insurgents, who were thought to have been armed with assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, were also killed.

In Japan, a tsunami warning has been issued for the  north-eastern part of the after an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck off the east coast of Honshu.  The  quake was 118 kilometres   north of Fukushima and  40 kilometres offshore.  Japanese TV said the tsunami is predicted to have a wave three feet  high and those in the warning zone should move to high ground.  The Tokyo Electric Power Company  which operates Fukushima, says it is checking on the situation at the damaged plant following the latest earthquake. The quake was strong enough to shake buildings in Tokyo.

The fourth edition of the Indian Premier League Twenty-20 cricket tournament begins tomorrow.   In the opening fixture,    Chennai Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai. The match is scheduled to start at 8 P.M. This year's edition is spread over 51 days, and will comprise 74 matches across 13 venues. The current edition of the tournament will have two new teams in Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors, taking the total of franchises to Ten.

Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina have entered the quarter-finals of the Women's Doubles in the Family Circle Cup tennis tournament.   In the first round at Charleston, United States, the duo beat second seeds Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymonds of the host nation in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The Sania-Elena pair will take on the Russian-Australian combination of Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova.

The Sports Ministry today constituted a committee under Justice (retd) Mukul Mudgal and comprising, among others, badminton legend Prakash Padukone to examine suggestions on the National Sports Development Bill. The committee will also make recommendations to fine-tune the draft, within two weeks.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is looking for ways and means to provide funds to community radio stations across the country to make them efficient to expand their reach. Talking to reporters after inaugurating the First National Community Radio Sammelan in New Delhi, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ms. Ambika Soni said that the government is considering to formulate a proposal for setting up community radio stations with the help of MPLAD funds. She said that she will send a proposal to the Members of Parliament on this.

Cultural Secretaries of India and Bangladesh today discussed the schedule of Joint celebrations to mark the 150th Anniversery of renowned Poet Rabindranath Tagore. The talks held between Jawahar Sircar and Suraiya Begum in New Delhi today. The two sides are meeting for the second time to give finishing touches to the joint commemorative programmes which are expected to start in Delhi on 7th May. The decision to jointly celebrate Tagore's 150th birth anniversary was taken during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to New Delhi in January last year when both the Prime Ministers agreed joint celebrations of Tagore's 150th birth anniversary in 2011-12 in a manner befitting his vision and spirit.

Government today came out strongly against a report on presence of a drug resistant bacteria in the public water system in New Delhi. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Secretary Department of Health Research V M Katoch said the motives behind it were not scientific and the government will respond in an appropriate forum. International medical journal 'Lancet' reported that deadly superbug NDM-1 was found in about a quarter of water samples taken from drinking supplies and puddles on the streets of New Delhi. He said that the report was unsupported by any clinical and epidemiological evidence.
