उच्चतम न्यायालय ने नोएडा के निकट निठारी हत्याकांड में सुरेंद्र सिंह कोली की मौत की सजा की पुष्टि कर दी है। न्यायालय ने कोली के हाथों हुई हत्याओं को क्रूर और बर्बर बताया। कोली ने रिम्पा हलदर मुकदमें में निचली अदालत और फिर इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय के मौत की सजा के फैसले के खिलाफ उच्चतम न्यायालय में अपील की थी। नोएडा के निकट निठारी गांव में मोनिन्दर सिंह पंढेर के नौकर सुरेन्द्र कोली को १४ साल की रिम्पा हलदर के साथ बलात्कार और उसकी हत्या का दोषी ठहराया गया है। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने इसी मामले में मोनिन्दर सिंह पंढेर को बरी करने के फैसले के खिलाफ सी बी आई की अपील पर फैसला सुरक्षित रखा है।दिसम्बर २००९ में मोनिन्दर सिंह पंढेर के मकान के पीछे की नाली में बहुत सारे मानव अंग मिले थे। बाद में पता चला कि ये अंग पास के निठारी गांव की १९ लड़कियों और बच्चों के थे जिनके साथ पंढेर के निवास में बलात्कार करने के बाद हत्या होने का आरोप था।

ओड़िशा विधानसभा में आज करोड़ों रुपये के दाल घोटाले को लेकर जोरदार शोर-शराबा हुआ। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि विपक्षी कांग्रेस के सदस्यों ने मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक के इस्तीफे और इस मुद्दे पर बहस की मांग की।उड़ीसा के लाखों बच्चों और गर्भवती महिलाओं को मध्याहान भोजन और स्वतंत्र पुष्टि योजना में निम्न मान का दाल खाने दिये जाने को लेकर उड़ीसा विधान सभा में आज भारी हंगामा हुआ है। अध्यक्ष के माइक को भी एक सदस्य ने छीन लेने की कोशिश की। इसके चलते विधानसभा स्वाभिक रूप से नहीं चल पाया। अध्यक्ष प्रदीप कुमार कमात को बार-बार कार्रवाई स्थगित करना पड़ा। आज दोपहर तीन बजे तक विधानसभा को अध्यक्ष ने स्थगित रखा है।

राजस्थान विधानसभा का बजट सत्र आज जयपुर में शुरू हो गया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि सदन को संबोधित करते हुए राज्यपाल शिवराज पाटिल ने भूजल का अत्यधिक दोहन रोकने के लिए नया कानून बनाने की जरूरत पर जोर दिया है।श्री पाटिल ने कहा कि पानी का अत्यधिक दोहन राज्य के विकास को प्रभावित करता है। उन्होंने कहा कि राज्य सरकार विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में पीने का पानी पहुंचाने के लिए १२ हजार आठ सौ चौरासी करोड़ रूपये की परियोजनाएं चला रही है। इसके साथ ही क्लोराइड प्रभावित इलाकों में भी साफ और सुरक्षित पानी पहुंचाने के इंतजाम किए जा रहे हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि नर्मदा नहर इलाके में भोजन के दोहन को रोकने के लिए ड्रीप सिंचाई पद्धति अनिवार्य कर दी गई है और ५० हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र में किसान केवल फव्हारा सिंचाई पद्धति से ही सिंचाई करेंगे। राज्यपाल ने इस साल राज्य सरकार द्वारा एक लाख नये पदों पर भर्ती की भी घोषणा की। राज्यपाल के अभिभाषण के दौरान राष्ट्रपति कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के विधायक श्री अमरा राम ने राज्य में कानून व्यवस्था का मुद्दा भी उठाया।
श्री पाटील ने बताया कि सरकार पारदर्शी और जवाबदेह प्रशासन के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है और बच्चो,महिलाओं, अल्पसंख्यकों और कमजोर वर्गो के कल्याण के लिए विभिन्न योजनाएं लागू की जा रहीं हैं।

दक्षिणी मुंबई की विवादास्पद आदर्श हाउसिंग सोसायटी के सदस्यों ने इमारत गिराने के केन्द्रीय पर्यावरण और वन मंत्रालय के आदेश को बम्बई उच्च न्यायालय में चुनौती दी है। पर्यावरण मंत्रालय ने १६ जनवरी को इस अनधिकृत ३१ मंजिला इमारत को तीन महीने के अंदर गिराने के निर्देश दिए थे क्योंकि इसके निर्माण में तटवर्ती क्षेत्र नियमों का उल्लंघन किया गया था। सोसायटी के सदस्यों ने उच्च न्यायालय में दायर याचिका में मंत्रालय के आदेश को कानूनन गलत बताते हुए चुनौती दी है। याचिका में कहा गया है कि सोसायटी ने सभी नियमों का पालन किया और सभी सरकारी विभागों से आवश्यक अनुमति ली गई।-------
असम में, प्रतिबंधित नेशनल फ्रंट ऑफ बोडोलैंड एन डी एफ बी के वार्ता समर्थक गुट की २४ घंटे की आर्थिक नाकेबंदी से असम के कई उत्तरी जिलों और पड़ोसी अरूणाचल प्रदेश में सामान्य जीवन पर असर पड़ा है। वार्ता समर्थक गुट ने शांतिपूर्ण बातचीत शुरू करने के संबंध में सरकार से तुरंत जवाब की मांग को लेकर राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग संख्या ५२ पर आज सुबह पांच बजे से नाकेबंदी शुरू की है। यह गुट पहले ही एकतरफा संघर्षविराम की घोषणा कर चुका है और इसके ज्यादातर सदस्य शिविरों में शरण लिये हुए हैं। गुवाहाटी से मिली खबरों के अनुसार नाकेबंदी समर्थकों ने आज सुबह दारांग जिले में रौटा में असम राज्य परिवहन निगम की एक बस को क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया। शरारती तत्वों द्वारा पथराव ेिकये जाने से बस का ड्राइवर गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गया। राजमार्ग पर कोई वाहन नहीं चल रहा है। असम के उत्तरी हिस्सों और चीन तथा भूटान की सीमा पर अरूणाचल प्रदेश के ऊंचाई वाले इलाकों में लोगों और जरूरी समानों को पहुंचाने में इस राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका है।-------
जम्मू कश्मीर पुलिस के सलेक्शन ग्रेड के ९३ कॉन्सटेबलों को पदोन्नत कर हैड कान्ॅस्टेबल बना दिया गया है। पुलिस विभाग की पदोन्नति समिति ने इस आशय के आदेश का अनुमोदन किया है। एक पुलिस प्रवक्ता ने श्रीनगर में बताया कि कश्मीर पुलिस के इंस्पेक्टर जनरल एस.एम. सहाय ने कल पदोन्नति आदेश जारी किया।-------

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने देशभर में कथितरूप से एक लाख से अधिक टेलीफोन टैप करने के मामले में केन्द्र की यूपीए सरकार से स्पष्टीकरण मांगा है और इसे गंभीर चिंता का विषय बताया है। पार्टी नेता अरूण जेटली ने कोलकाता में कहा कि यह सत्ता का दुरूपयोग है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार को इस बात की पुष्टि करनी होगी कि यह टैपिंग सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से की जा रही है और यह भी बताना होगा कि कितने फोन टैप किए जा रहे हैं। श्री जेटली पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय पदाधिकारियों की बैठक के दौरान संवाददाताओं से बातचीत कर रहे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि देश के कानून के अनुसार सुरक्षा कारणों या किसी गंभीर अपराध के मामले में ही फोन टैपिंग की जा सकती है।पार्टी के केन्द्रीय प्रक्षेक चन्दन मित्रा ने बताया कि आज की बैठक में उन पांच राज्यों की स्थिति का जायजा लिया जाएगा, जहां विधानसभा चुनाव होने वाले हैं।

कांग्रेस महासचिव राहुल गांधी ने कहा है कि युवा पीढ़ी को राजनीति में बढ़चढ़कर हिस्सा लेना चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि देश की आबादी का चालीस प्रतिशत हिस्सा युवाओं का है और उनकी भूमिका बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। आइजोल के निकट तानहारिल में कल मिजोरम विश्वविद्यालय के छात्रों को सम्बोधित करते हुए श्री राहुल गांधी ने कहा कि उनका मानना है कि राजनीतिज्ञों को लोगों की भलाई के लिए राजनीति में आना चाहिए।बाद में राहुल गांधी ने विश्वविद्यालय परिसर में लड़कियों के एक होस्टल का उद्घाटन किया।

योजना आयोग ने कहा है कि मार्च के अंत तक मुद्रास्फीति गिरकर सात प्रतिशत रह जाएगी। आज नई दिल्ली में एक समारोह के दौरान योजना आयोग के उपाध्यक्ष मोंटेक सिंह आहलुवालिया का कहना था कि आने वाले दिनों में सब्जियों के दाम भी बहुत कम हो जाएंगे, फिर भी उन्होंने ऊंची मुद्रास्फीति पर गंभीर चिंता व्यक्त की। ताजा आंकड़ों के अनुसार जनवरी में मुद्रास्फीति ८ दशमलव दो-तीन प्रतिशत रही जबकि दिसम्बर में यह दर आठ दशमलव चार-तीन प्रतिशत थी।श्री आहलुवालिया ने यह भी कहा कि वित्तीय प्रोत्साहनों की नीति खत्म की जा रही है। रिजर्व बैंक पहले ही यह फैसला ले चुका है जिससे संकेत मिलता है कि वृद्धि के लक्ष्य हासिल किये जा चुके हैं।

कर्मचारी भविष्य निधि संगठन के केन्द्रीय न्यासी बोर्ड ने पिछले वित्त वर्ष के लिए भविष्य निधि जमा पर साढ़े नौ प्रतिशत की दर से ब्याज देने का फैसला किया है। श्रम मंत्री मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे, बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष हैं। श्रम सचिव पी.सी. चतुर्वेदी ने आज नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों को बताया कि वित्त मंत्रालय, चालू वित्त वर्ष खत्म होने से पहले इस फैसले का अनुमोदन कर देगा। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि सरकार हमेशा न्यासियों का फैसला मानती रही है और वित्त मंत्रालय अगले सप्ताह में ऊंची ब्याज दरों के बारे में अपने विचार बोर्ड के सामने रखेगा। उचन्त खाते यानि सस्पेंस अकाउंट में एक हजार ७०० करोड़ रूपये से अधिक राशि मिलने के बाद केन्द्रीय न्यासी बोर्ड ने अपने चार करोड़ से अधिक सदस्यों के लिए भविष्य निधि जमा पर ब्याज दर बढ़ाकर साढेनौ प्रतिशत करने का फैसला किया। कर्मचारी भविष्य निधि संगठन वित्त वर्ष २००५-२००६ से भविष्य निधि जमा पर साढे आठ प्रतिशत की दर से ब्याज दे रहा है।-------
बुनियादी ढांचा क्षेत्र के नियमन के लिए जल्द ही एक विधेयक लाया जाएगा। योजना आयोग ने विधेयक का प्रारूप तैयार कर लिया है और इसे जल्द ही संसद में पेश किया जाएगा। योजना आयोग के उपाध्यक्ष मोंटेक सिंह अहलुवालिया ने आज नई दिल्ली में यह जानकारी दी। उन्होंने बताया कि बुनियादी ढांचा क्षेत्र में सार्वजनिक निजी भागीदारी की देखरेख के लिए स्वतंत्र नियामक तंत्र स्थापित करने की दृष्टि से यह विधेयक महत्वपूर्ण है। विधेयक में बिजली, तेल, गैस, कोयला, दूरसंचार, प्रसारण और केबल, हवाई अड्डों, बंदरगाहों, देश के अन्दर जलमार्गो, रेलवे, राजमार्गो और दूसरे क्षेत्रों में जलापूर्ति जैसे विषयों को शामिल किया गया है।-------
वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी अगले सप्ताह शुरू हो रहे संसद के बजट अधिवेशन से पहले आज नई दिल्ली में कांग्रेस मुख्यालय में पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेताओं के साथ विचार-विमर्श करेंगे। बैठक में सभी पार्टी महासचिवों और अन्य वरिष्ठ नेताओं के भाग लेने की उम्मीद है। वित्त मंत्री बजट के बारे में कांग्रेस नेताओं के सुझाव मांगेंगे। वे अब तक उद्योगपतियों सहित विभिन्न वर्गों से इस बारे में विचार-विमर्श कर चुके हैं। अगले वित्त वर्ष का केन्द्रीय बजट इस महीने की २८ तारीख को पेश किया जाना है।हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि इस वर्ष पांच राज्यों पश्चिम बंगाल, केरल, असम, तमिलनाडु और पुड्डुचेरी में होने वाले विधानसभा चुनाव तथा आवश्यक वस्तुओं, विशेष रूप से खाद्य पदाथोर्ं और सब्जियों की बढ़ती कीमतें पार्टी के लिए चिंता का मुख्य विषय है।

केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने संसद की संयुक्त बैठक में राष्ट्रपति के भाषण को स्वीकृति देने का अधिकार प्रधानमंत्री को सौंप दिया है। राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटील अगले सोमवार को संसद के बजट सत्र के पहले दिन अपने अभिभाषण में सरकारी नीतियों के साथ-साथ विभिन्न मुद्दों पर अपने विचार रखेंगी। समझा जाता है कि आज मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक में टू जी स्पैक्ट्रम मामले में संयुक्त संसदीय जांच समिति की विपक्ष की मांग पर भी विचार हुआ। इस मांग पर सरकार और विपक्ष के बीच गतिरोध के कारण संसद के शीतकालीन सत्र में कोई कामकाज नहीं हुआ। समझा जाता है कि कल कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी की अध्यक्षता में पार्टी के कोर ग्रुप की बैठक में भी इस मुद्दे पर चर्चा हुई थी। हमारे संवाद्दाता ने खबर दी है कि कांग्रेस इस जांच समिति के दायरे में भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेतृत्व वाली एनडीए सरकार का कार्यकाल भी शामिल कराना चाहती है और उसका दावा है कि मुख्य विपक्षी दल को बहुत से सवालों के जवाब देने होंगे।-------
केन्द्रीय विधि मंत्री वीरप्पा मोइली ने कहा है कि आईआईटी और आईआईएम जैसे शीर्ष शिक्षा संस्थान पिछले ४५ वर्षों में केवल एक प्रतिशत विकास कर सके थे,लेकिन केन्द्र सरकार की निगरानी समिति की सिफारिशों के बाद इनका ५४ प्रतिशत विकास हुआ है। श्री मोइली आज बंगलौर विश्वविद्यालय के ४६वें वार्षिक दीक्षांत समारोह में बोल रहे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि इस समय उत्कृष्ट शिक्षा के अधिक से अधिक केन्द्र बनाने की जरूरत है, ताकि देश की प्रतिभा और उभर सके। इस अवसर पर कन्नड़ कवि पद्मश्री प्रोफेसर के.एस. निसार अहमद, सुप्रसिद्ध विद्वान डॉक्टर एम. चिदानन्द मूर्ति और जाने-माने कलाकार बी.के.एस. वर्मा को विश्वविद्यालय के कुलाधिपति और राज्यपाल एच.आर. भारद्वाज ने डी-लिट की मानद डिग्री से सम्मानित किया। इस वर्ष के दीक्षांत समारोह में स्वर्ण पदक प्राप्त करने वाली लड़कियों की संख्या लड़कों से अधिक रही।-------
राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग ने प्रवासी भारतीयों की विवाह से जुड़ी समस्याओं से उपयुक्त ढंग से निपटने के लिए हिन्दू विवाह कानून में संशोधन की मांग की है। इस बारे में नई दिल्ली में आज आयोजित गोष्ठी में आयोग की राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष गिरिजा व्यास ने कहा कि शादी के बाद छोड़ी गयी महिलाओं के लिए भारत में विदेशी दूतावासों से वीजा जल्दी जारी कराने की प्रक्रिया को सरल किया जाना चाहिए ताकि ये महिलाएं प्रवासी भारतीय या भारतीय मूल के पति की तरफ से विदेश में अदालत में दायर मुकदमें लड़ सकें। सुश्री गिरिजा व्यास ने सुझाव दिया कि जिन देशों में भारतीयों की संख्या अधिक है उनके साथ परस्पर लाभकारी आपसी संधियों पर हस्ताक्षर होने चाहियें। विवाह का पंजीकरण अनिवार्य करने का तर्क देते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि भारत के हर नागरिक का विवाह उसके सम्बद्ध राज्य में अनिवार्य रूप से पंजीकृत होना चाहिए, चाहे वह किसी भी धर्म का हो। उन्होंने इस समस्या से निपटने के लिए और भी कई सुझाव दिए।-------
अमरीकी राष्ट्रपति बराक ओबामा ने कहा है कि भारत दुनिया के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण और उभरते बाजारों में से एक है, जहां अमरीकी कम्पनियों के लिए अपने माल और सेवाओं की खपत बढ़ाने के जबर्दस्त अवसर मौजूद हैं। राष्ट्रपति ओबामा ने संसद को भेजे बजट प्रस्तावों में यह बात कही है। नवम्बर में अमरीकी राष्ट्रपति की भारत यात्रा के बाद तैयार बजट प्रस्तावों के अनुसार दोनों देशों के बीच व्यापारिक लेन-देन कुल १४ अरब ९० करोड़ अमरीकी डॉलर से भी ऊपर पहुंच गया है, जिससे करीब ५३ हजार ६७० लोगों को नौकरियां मिलेंगी। प्रस्तावों में यह भी कहा गया है कि सार्वजनिक और निजी, दोनों क्षेत्रों में इस तरह का सहयोग भारत और अमरीका के बीच लगातार बढ़ती महत्वपूर्ण साझेदारी का आधार है जिससे दोनों देशों में विकास और आर्थिक वृद्धि को बढ़ावा मिला है। इनमें वाणिज्यिक और सैनिक विमानों, गैस और टरबाइन तथा सटीक माप उपकरणों की बिक्री जैसे सौदे शामिल हैं।व्हाइट हाऊस के बजट प्रस्तावों में यह भी कहा गया है कि भारत-चीन और दूसरे विकासशील देशों की आर्थिक वृद्धि को मिलाकर दुनिया में जो बाजार उभर रहा है उससे अमरीका को अपना माल और सेवाएं नए ग्राहकों तक पहुंचाने का अवसर मिला है। इसके अनुसार दुनिया के ७५ प्रतिशत ग्राहक और सबसे तेजी से फैलते बाजार अमरीका की सीमाओं से बाहर हैं, इसलिए उसे देश के भीतर आर्थिक वृद्धि और रोजगार के अवसर जुटाने के लिए इन बाजारों में डटकर होड़ करनी चाहिए।

इक्वाडोर की एक अदालत ने देश के अमेजन क्षेत्र के बड़े हिस्से को प्रदूषित करने के आरोप में अमरीकी तेल कंपनी शैवरॉन पर आठ अरब ६० करोड़ डॉलर का जुर्मान किया है। २००१ में शैवरॉन में मिलायी गई टैक्सकों तेल कंपनी पर आरोप है कि उसने कच्चे गढ्ढों और अमेजन में अरबों गैलन जहरीला पदार्थ फेंका था। शैवरॉन ने इस फैसले को गलत बताते हुए अपील करने का निर्णय लिया।-------
मिस्र की सैनिक सरकार ने देश के लोगों से हड़ताल समाप्त करने को कहा है, क्योंकि इससे अर्थव्यवस्था को नुकसान पहुंच रहा है। कुछ लोकतंत्र समर्थक अब भी तहरीर चौक पर डटे हुए हैं। उनका कहना है कि अगर व्यवस्था में पूरी तरह परिवर्तन की उनकी मांग को नहीं माना गया तो वे फिर प्रदर्शन करेंगे।हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि मिस्र में स्थिति तेजी से सामान्य हो रही है।
मिस्र में सैन्य शासक हुस्नी मुबारक के सत्ता से हटने के बाद स्थिति को सामान्य बनाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं और उन्होंने चेतावनी दी है कि उथल-पुथल के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की जाएगी। यह चेतावनी देश में असंतुष्ट सरकारी कर्मचारियों की हड़तालों के बाद आई है, जो बेहतर वेतन भत्तों की मांग कर रहे हैं। उधर प्रजातंत्र समर्थक आंदोलनकारी आपातकालीन कानूनों को हटाए जाने, राजनीतिक कैदियों की रिहाई और सिविलियन संक्रमणकालीन सरकार की गठन की मांग कर रहे हैं। इस बीच मिस्र और ट्यूनिशिया की घटनाओं से प्रेरणा लेते हुए यमन, ईरान, बेहरीन और अल्जीरिया में सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शन हुए हैं। फिलीस्तीनी अथोरिटी ने तो लोगों के असंतोष को रोकने के उद्देश्य से पूरी कैबिनेट के ही पुनर्गठन का एलान किया है। इरान में विपक्षी नेता मोसावी और कोरोबी ने मिस्र और ट्यूनिशिया की घटनाओं की तुलना अपने संघर्षों से की है और कहा है कि क्षेत्र की सरकारों के खिलाफ विद्रोह का स्पष्ट कारण उनके शासकों की दमनकारी नीतियां है।

मिस्र में पुरातत्व वस्तु राज्यमंत्री ने घोषणा की है कि संग्रहालय की तलाशी में तीन बहुमूल्य वस्तुएं मिली हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि जांच-पड़ताल से पता चला था कि हाल की सेंधमारी के बाद केवल आठ आभूषण खोए हैं। प्रारंभिक जांच से पता चला था कि २८ जनवरी को संग्रहालय में सेंधमारी के बाद से ७० वस्तुएं लापता हैं।इस बीच, अल अहराम मीडिया ने जानकार सूत्रों के हवाले से बताया है कि पूर्व राष्ट्रपति हुस्नी मुबारक सत्ता छोड़ने के बाद गंभीर रूप से बीमार हैं। शर्म अल शेख में उनका इलाज चल रहा है अभी यह तय नहीं है कि उन्हें अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया जाएगा या नहीं।

जापान के आत्म रक्षा बल के चीफ ऑफ स्टॉफ योशिफुमि हिबाको नई दिल्ली में भारत के सेना अध्यक्षों और रक्षामंत्री के साथ मुलाकात के दौरान आतंकवाद और समुद्री डकैती रोकने जैसे मुद्दों पर चर्चा करेंगे। जनरल हिबाको तीन दिन की यात्रा पर कल रात नई दिल्ली पहुंचे। रक्षा सूत्रों का मानना है कि दोनों देशों के बीच सैन्य सम्पर्क बढ़ाने के तौर तरीकों पर भी चर्चा होगी। हमारे संवाद्दाता का कहना है कि भारत और जापान, २००६ में रक्षा सहयोग बढ़ाने की योजना पर सहमत हुए थे और रक्षा नीति संवाद भी शुरू किया गया था।-------
अरब सागर में एक और व्यापारिक जहाज पर हमला हुआ है। समझा जाता है कि समुद्री डाकुओं ने १२ फरवरी को ईरानी जहाज एम वी सिनिन का अपहरण कर लिया। मुम्बई में जहाजरानी महानिदेशक को सूचना मिली है कि १२ फरवरी से इस जहाज के साथ सम्पर्क टूट गया है। महानिदेशक की प्रैस विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार यह जहाज फुजैरा से सिंगापुर जा रहा था। इस पर ओमान में मसीरा से करीब साढ़े तीन सौ समुद्री मील पूर्व में हमला हुआ। जहाज में करीब ५२ हजार टन लौह अयस्क लदा हुआ है। प्रैस विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार जहाज के चालक दल में कुल २२ सदस्य हैं जिनमें नौ भारतीय और तेरह ईरान के हैं।-------
१५ फरवरी को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बाल कैंसर जागरूकता दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। बच्चों में भी अनेक तरह के कैंसर पाये जाते हैं और इस विषय में जागरूकता होने पर इनसे बचाव और इनका इलाज हो सकता है।विश्व में करीब ढाई लाख बच्चे हर साल केंसर से प्रभावित होते हैं और प्रतिवर्ष डेढ लाख से अधिक बच्चों की इस बीमारी की वजह से मृत्यु हो जाती है। भारत में बच्चों में होने वाली केंसर की संख्या में और हर साल बच्चों में केंसर के करीब ४० हजार से अधिक मामले सामने आते हैं, जिनमें से मात्र २० से ३० प्रतिशत का ही ठीक से इलाज हो पाता है। वयस्कों के मुकाबले बच्चों में केंसर के ठीक हो जाने की संभावना ज्यादा होती है, पर ऐसा तभी संभव है जब केंसर का पता शुरूआती दौर में चल जाए। बच्चों में होने वाला सबसे ज्यादा केंसर ब्लड केंसर या ल्यूक्यूमिया है। बच्चों में केंसर के ठीक होने की संभावना वयस्कों की अपेक्षा अधिक होती है। केंसर के बचाव के लिए स्वस्थ जीवन शैली को होना आवश्यक है और केंसर फैलाने वाले पदार्थों और विकिरणों से बचना चाहिए।

पंजाब, हरियाणा और चंडीगढ़ में कल रात से हल्की बारिश हो रही है। हमारे चंडीगढ संवाददाता ने बताया है कि कई स्थानों पर सुबह से बूंदाबांदी हो रही है।पिछले दो दिन से रूक-रूक कर हो रही वर्षा रबी फसलों के लिए लाभदायक समझी जा रही है। कृषि महरों का कहना है कि अभी गेहूं की फसल फूलने की स्थिति में है। और इस वर्षा से यह फसल और फैलेगी दाने भी और मोटे हो जाएंगे। इस वर्षा से ठंड भी कुछ दिन और चलेगी, जिससे फसल को फायदा होगा।
उत्तराखंड में पिछले दो दिन से हल्की से भारी बर्फबारी हो रही है। ऊंचे इलाकों में फिर बर्फबारी होने से राज्य की लगभग सभी चोटियां बर्फ से ढक गईं हैं और पांच हजार फुट से अधिक ऊंचाई पर बसे लगभग तीन सौ गांव का संपर्क राज्य के शेष हिस्सों से कट गया है।
लगातार बारिश और हिमपात की वजह से प्रदेश के विभिन्न स्थानों पर तापमान में गिरावट दर्ज की गई है और यह सामान्य से औसतन तीन से चार डिग्री सेल्सिस कम हो गया है। प्राप्त सूचना के अनुसार राज्य में ठंड बढ़ने के साथ बद्रीनाथ, केदारनाथ, जोशीमठ, गांगोत्री, जमनोत्री, कपकोट और मुनिसियारी की चोटियां बर्फ से ढक गई हैं। बर्फबारी के साथ ही भूस्खलन की वजह से गंगोत्री, जमनोत्री और बद्रीनाथ पर जाने वाले राजमार्ग पर यातायात प्रभावित हो गया है। इस बीच, रूक-रूक कर देहरादून और नेनीताल में हो रही बारिश से लोगों की मुसीबते बढ़ गई है।
राजधानी दिल्ली में रात भर बारिश के बाद आज भी हल्की बारिश हो रही है। आज सुबह यहां शून्य दशमलव तीन मिलीमीटर वर्षा दर्ज की गई। हालांकि रात का तापमान सामान्य से ऊपर है। न्यूनतम तापमान सामान्य से पांच डिग्री ऊपर, १४ दशमलव सात डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया। दिन के तापमान में आंशिक कमी आई है।
मौसम कार्यालय को दिनभर हल्की बौछार पड़ने और बादल छाये रहने का अनुमान है। तापमान १३ से १९ डिग्री सेल्सियस के बीच रहने की संभावना है।

The Supreme Court has confirmed the death penalty awarded to Surinder Singh Koli in Nithari killing case near NOIDA. The apex court described the Killings by Koli as horrifying and barbaric. Koli had approached the apex court after he was sentenced to death by the trial court and the Allahabad High Court in the Rimpa Haldar case, one of the children killed in Noida's Nithari village. Koli, the domestic help of Pandher, has been convicted for raping and killing 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar. The apex court has kept pending the appeal by the Central Bureau of Investigation against the acquittal of businessman Moninder Singh Pandher in the case. The Nithari killings pertain to the horrific discovery in December 2009 of body parts being found in a drain behind the residence of Koli's employer Moninder Singh Pandher. The remains were found to be of 19 young women and children from the nearby Nithari village allegedly raped and killed in the Pandher residence.

The Union Cabinet today authorised the Prime Minister to give the final nod to the President's address for the joint sitting of Parliament. Ms Pratibha Devisingh Patil will address in Parliament on the opening day of the Budget Session next Monday spelling out government's policies for the year and views on various topical issues. The Cabinet is also believed to have discussed the JPC demand of the opposition on the 2G issue. The stand-off between the government and the opposition on the JPC probe led to the washout of the entire Winter Session of Parliament. The issue is understood to have been discussed yesterday at the Congress Core Group meeting, chaired by party President Sonia Gandhi. Our correspondent reports, the Congress party is keen that such a probe covers the BJP-led NDA's stint in power and is claiming that the main opposition will have a lot to answer.

The CBI Director A P Singh will appear before the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee later today to give evidence in connection with the allocation of 2G spectrum. The PAC, headed by BJP veteran M. M. Joshi, has so far gathered evidence from former Telecom Secretaries S. S. Behura and D. S. Mathur, former TRAI chairman Pradip Baijal, former Member (Finance) of Telecom Commission Manju Madhvan and RBI Governor D. Subbarao, who was Finance Secretary when the 2G allocations were made in January 2008. Earlier, the Supreme Court asked the government to constitute a special court to deal exclusively with the 2G spectrum scam.
The CBI told the apex court that it would file the first charge sheet in the 2G scam against A Raja and others under the Prevention of Corruption Act for cheating and forgery by 31st of March .

The Odisha Legislative Assembly has to be adjourned time and again today following unruly scenes and uproar inside the house by opposition Congress members over the multi-crore 'dal scam'. Without allowing the question hour to function normally, they enmass coming to the well of the house shouted anti-government slogans and demanded resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for providing sub-standard 'dal' to lakhs of children and pregnant women under the Mid-Day Meal and Special Nutrition Programme Schemes. Things were worse when the opposition Congress members poured samples of the sub-standard and unhygienic 'dal' over the Speaker's table. As normal business could not be carried forward inside the house due to noisy scenes, Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat has adjourned the house till 3 of this afternoon.

Almost a month after the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests passed an order to demolish the scam-hit Adarsh Housing Society, its members have approached the Bombay High Court challenging it. The Environment Ministry had on 16 th of January directed the Society to demolish within three months the unauthorised 31-storey building in South Mumbai for violating coastal regulations. About 103 members of the Society filed a petition in the High Court yesterday challenging the Ministry's order on the grounds that it is wrong in law. The high-rise building meant to house families of Kargil martyrs came under the scanner following reports that flats were doled out to politicians, top defence personnel including two former Army chiefs and bureaucrats as well as their kin. The CBI, which was directed by the Defence Ministry to conduct a probe, had on 29th of January registered a case in the scam against 13 persons including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, retired army officials, bureaucrats and state government officials on charges of criminal conspiracy, fraud and misuse of their official powers.

Planning Commission says that inflation will come down to seven percent by end of next month. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia said that the prices of vegetables will also come down significantly in the coming days. He however added that high inflation is a major cause of concern. According to data released, the inflation for the month of January has come down marginally to 8.23 per cent from the previous month's 8.43 percent.
Mr. Ahluwalia also said that the fiscal stimulus is being reversed. He said that Reserve Bank of India has already reversed the stimulus package which indicates that the growth objectives have been achieved.

The Finance Minister,Mr. Pranab Mukherjee will hold consultations with senior party leaders today at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi ahead of the budget session beginning next week. Party sources said,Congress leaders are expected to come up with their wish lists during their meeting with Mr. Mukherjee. The Finance Minister will be seeking suggestions from Congress leaders on measures to be included in the Budget to be presented on the 28th of this month. BJP today sought a clarification from the UPA government at the Centre on alleged tapping of over one lakh telephones across the country, describing it as a cause of grave concern. Party leader Arun Jaitley said in Kolkata that this amounted to misuse of power. He said, the government has to confirm that tapping is being done on consideration of security and also state how many phones are being tapped. He was talking to reporters on the sidelines of the meeting of National office-bearers of the party. Jaitley said, the country's law states that tapping can be done in extreme cases like security considerations or in case of a serious crime. Claiming that the alleged number of tapped phones was higher than even in police states, the BJP Leader sought an authoritative clarification from the central government on the issue.
The party's central observer Chandan Mitra said that the meeting will take stock of the situation in the five states going to the polls, the party's preparedness and prospects of alliance with other parties. BJP leader L K Advani, party president Nitin Gadkari, Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh and Jaitley are in Kolkata for attending the meet.

Normal life has been disrupted in several northern districts of Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh following a 24-hour economic blockade call by the pro-talk group of the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland NDFB. The blockade on the National Highway number 52 since five this morning has been called demanding the Centre’s immediate response towards holding peace talks with the outfit. The militant outfit has already announced unilateral ceasefire and most of their cadres are taking shelter in designated camps.
Reports reaching Guwahati said the blockade supporters damaged an Assam State Transport Corporation bus at Rowta in Darrang district this morning. The driver of the bus is reported to have been seriously injured when the miscreants resorted to stone pelting. No vehicles plied and the highway looked deserted.
The National Highway plays an important role for transporting men, materials and essential items in the northern parts of Assam and higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China and Bhutan.

A court in Ecuador has fined the America oil giant Chevron 8.6 billion dollars for polluting a large part of the country's Amazon region. The Texaco oil company which merged with Chevron in 2001 was accused of dumping billions of gallons of toxic materials into unlined pits and Amazon rivers. Campaigners say, crops were damaged and farm animals killed, and that local cancer rates increased. The lawsuit was brought on behalf of 30,000 Ecuadoreans, in a case which dragged on for nearly two decades. Condemning the ruling as fraudulent, Chevron said it would appeal against it.

Egypt's military government has urged Egyptians to end their ongoing strikes as it has a damaging effect on the Country's economy. Thousands of state employees, from ambulance drivers to policemen and transport workers, are striking to demand better pay and service conditions. Our Correspondent reports that a small number of pro-democracy demonstrators are still camping at Tahrir square despite military’s ultimatum to leave the square or face arrest. Protesting leaders say, Egyptians will demonstrate again if their demands for radical change are not met.
Military rulers in Egypt are trying to assert their command over the country as dissatisfied employees of several government departments are on agitation pressing for better deals and several pro democracy protestors are demanding end of emergency law, release of all political prisoners and the formation of a civil transitional council. The Army has warned that it will act against chaos and disorder. Meanwhile ripple effects of Egypt are being seen in Yemen, Iran and Bahrain and Algeria so far, where demonstrations were held against governments. Palestinian Authority has decided to form a new cabinet in an attempt to pre-empt any possible reaction of the people. Iranian opposition leaders Karroubi and Mousavi, have compared the unrest in Egypt and Tunisia with their own struggles. Mousavi said all regions' revolts aimed at ending the oppression of the rulers.
In Iran, reports quoting websites and witnesses say that riot police fired tear gas and paintballs at protesters yesterday in Tehran holding anti-government demonstrations. Iranian semi official Fars news agency reported that a gunshot killed a bystander while a number of people were also wounded by the gunfire. It blamed the outlawed former rebel group, the People's Mujahedeen of Iran for this. The website of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi however said that hundreds of protesters were arrested in Tehran. But there is no official confirmation. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has hailed the courage and aspirations of the protesters in Iran and called on the country to follow Egypt's example and open up.
In Bahrain, the country's Interior minister has announced the investigation of the death of a protestor in Manama yesterday during anti government demonstrations. The protestors are demanding more powers to Parliament and limiting the authority of the King.
In neighbouring Yemen, young demonstrators are regularly protesting against the government demanding the resignation of President Abdullah Saleh who has been in power since more than 30 years. Rocks and batons flew in central Sanaa yesterday as pro-democracy protesters clashed violently with the police and supporters of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Central Board of Trustees the highest policy making body of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation has decided to give a higher return of 9.5 per cent on provident fund deposits for last fiscal. The CBT is headed by Labour Minister mallikarjun Kharge. Briefing the reporters in New Delhi today Labour secretary P C Chaturvedi said that the Finance Ministry will ratify the move before the end of the current financial year. He added that the decision of the trustees has always been accepted by the government and the Finance Ministry will place its view on the higher interest rates before the CBT in the coming week. Following the recovery of over one thousand seven hundred crore rupees in suspense account, the CBT raised rate of interest on provident fund deposits to 9.5 per cent for its more than four crore subscribers. EPFO has been paying 8.5 per cent interest rate since 2005-06.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange opened 72 points higher at 18,274 this morning, on sustained buying by foreign funds and retail investors. After paring some of its initial gains, the Sensex stood 41 points in the green, at 18,243, a short while ago. The Sensex has already rallied nearly 740 points in the last two sessions.

In another attack on a merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea, an Iranian ship MV Sinin, is suspected to be hijacked by the pirates on 12th of February. The Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai has received information that they have lost contact with the vessel M.V. “SININ” since 12th of this month. According to a press release issued by DG Shipping, Mumbai, the vessel was en route from Fujairah to Singapore when it was attacked around 350 nautical miles east of Masirah in Oman.

In Mexico, 18 people have been killed in the state of Tamaulipas in north-east of the country. The violence is blamed on the continuing conflict between drug cartels. Local reports say the Municipal palace, a court building and a police station in the city of Padilla were badly damaged.

According to a survey conducted by Hotels.com, Italian cuisine, renowned for its pizza and pasta, ranked as the most popular fare among the survey respondents worldwide, followed by French, Thai and Chinese food. People from different nationalities such as Australians, the British, the Dutch all love Indian fare, as do our own countrymen. However, Indians enjoy Chinese food the most after their home-made food.
