ईरान की राजधानी तेहरान में अरब देशों में हो रहे विद्रोह के समर्थन में सरकार के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन किए गए। पुलिस ने आज प्रदर्शनकारियों को तितर-बितर करने के लिए आंसू गैस छोड़ी और रबड़ की गोलियां चलाईं। पिछले वर्ष 11 फरवरी से लगे प्रतिबंध के बावजूद आंदोलनकारियों ने तेहरान में पहला सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शन किया।
इस बीच, आज ईरानी सांसदों ने तेहरान में सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शन करने वाले विपक्षी नेताओं को मौत की सजा देने की मांग की।

उधर, यमन की राजधानी सना में भी हजारों विपक्षी कार्यकर्ता राजनीतिक सुधारों और राष्ट्रपति अली अब्दुल्लाह सालेह को हटाने की मांग के साथ पांच दिन से प्रदर्शन कर रहे हैं। यमन पुलिस ने करीब तीन हजार प्रदर्शनकारियों को तितर-बितर करने के लाठीचार्ज किया। इन प्रदर्शनकारियों में अधिकांश छात्र हैं, जिन्होंने आज सना विश्वविद्यालय से सिटी सेंटर तक मार्च किया।

बहरीन की राजधानी मनामा में आज सुरक्षाबलों द्वारा विपक्षी कार्यकर्ताओं पर गोली चलाने से एक प्रदर्शनकारी की मौत हो गई। ये कार्यकर्ता कल पुलिस की गोली से मारे गए एक व्यक्ति के जनाज+े के जुलूस में जा रहे थे।

इटली के प्रधानमंत्री बर्लिस्कोनी पर सत्ता का दुरुपयोग और यौन अपराध का मुकदमा चलाया जाएगा। यह मुकदमा मिलान में 6 अप्रैल को शुरू होगा। इस मामले की जज ने आज इस मामले की फास्ट ट्रैक अदालत में मुकदमा चलाने का रोध को मंजूर कर लिया।

इक्वाडोर की एक अदालत ने देश के अमेजन क्षेत्र के बड़े हिस्से को प्रदूषित करने के आरोप में अमरीकी तेल कम्पनी शैवरॉन पर आठ अरब 60 करोड़ डॉलर का जुर्माना किया है। वर्ष 2001 में शैवरॉन में विलय की गयी टैक्सको तेल कम्पनी पर आरोप है कि उसने कच्चे गढ्ढों और अमेजन में अरबों गैलन जहरीला पदार्थ फेंका था।
शैवरॉन ने इस फैसले को गलत बताते हुए अपील करने का निर्णय लिया।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने नोएडा के निकट निठारी हत्याकांड में सुरेंद्र सिंह कोली की मौत की सजा की पुष्टि कर दी है। न्यायालय ने कोली के हाथों हुई हत्याओं को क्रूर और बर्बर बताया। कोली ने रिम्पा हलदर मुकदमें में निचली अदालत और फिर इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय के मौत की सजा के फैसले के खिलाफ उच्चतम न्यायालय में अपील की थी। नोएडा के निकट निठारी गांव में मोनिन्दर सिंह पंढेर के नौकर सुरेन्द्र कोली को 14 साल की रिम्पा हलदर के साथ बलात्कार और उसकी हत्या का दोषी ठहराया गया है। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने इसी मामले में मोनिन्दर सिंह पंढेर को बरी करने के फैसले के खिलाफ सी बी आई की अपील पर फैसला सुरक्षित रखा है।

सरकारी तेल कंपनियों ने आज विमान ईंधन के मूल्य में चार प्रतिशत की वृद्धि कर दी। यह वृद्धि आज आधी रात से लागू हो जाएगी अक्टूबर के बाद इन दरों में ये लगातार नौवीं बार वृद्धि हुई है। देश के सबसे बड़े ईंधन विक्रेता, इंडियन आयल कारपोरेशन ने कहा कि तेल की अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय कीमतों में उछाल के कारण यह वृद्धि करनी पड़ी।
इस ताजा मूल्य वृद्धि से यात्री भाड़े पर प्रभाव के बारे में अभी तक विमान कंपनियों ने कोई जानकारी नहीं दी है।

उड्डयन मंत्री व्यालार रवि ने एयर इंडिया के लिए अधिक बजटीय सहायता की मांग की है। उन्होंने आज वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी के साथ प्रस्तावित बजट में उड्डयन क्षेत्र से जुड़े मुद्दों को शामिल करने पर बातचीत की। श्री रवि ने कहा कि एयर इंडिया की लगभग 65 प्रतिशत योजना लागू कर दी गई है। उड्डयन मंत्रालय ने अगले वित्तवर्ष में दो हजार करोड़ रुपये के आबंटन की मांग की है।

मुम्बई शेयर बाजार का सेंसेक्स आज 18 हजार 274 पर बंद हुआ। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्‌टी 25 अंक बढ़कर 5 हजार 481 हो गया। रुपया डॉलर के मुकाबले एक पैसे कमजोर हुआ और एक डॉलर की कीमत 45 रुपये 51 पैसे रही। सोना दिल्ली में 80 रुपये महंगा होकर 20 हजार 570 रुपये प्रति दस ग्राम पर जा पहुंचा। चांदी के सिक्कों के मूल्य में 3 हजार 600 रुपये का उछाल आया और ये 54 हजार रुपये प्रति सौ ईकाई की रिकॉर्ड ऊंचाई तक जा पहुंची।

सरकार ने जाने-माने पाकिस्तानी गायक राहत फतेह अली खां के वीज+ा की अवधि बढ़ाने का फैसला किया है। राजस्व खुफिया विभाग ने उन्हें एक लाख चौबीस हजार डॉलर के साथ रविवार को दिल्ली हवाई अड्डे पर रोक लिया था। गृहसचिव जी.के. पिल्लई ने नई दिल्ली में आज एक समारोह के दौरान बताया कि उनकी वीज+ा की अवधि समाप्त हो गई है, जिसे बढ़ा दिया जाएगा।
उन्हें 17 तारीख को राजस्व गुप्तचर विभाग में पेश होने के लिए कहा गया है और हम आशा करते हैं कि 17 तारीख के बाद जब न्यायिक प्रक्रिया शुरू होगी हमें उम्मीद है की मामला सुलझ जायेगा।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम आबंटन मामले की संयुक्त संसदीय समिति से जांच कराने की मांग पर दृढ़ रहेगी। पार्टी नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी ने आज कोलकाता की रैली में भ्रष्टाचार मुद्दे पर यू.पी.ए. सरकार की चुप्पी की निंदा की।
मैं कहना चाहता हूं कि जिस समय विपक्षी दल मांग करते हैं की ज्वाइंट पार्लिमेंर्टी कमेटी बननी चाहिए हमारे मन में साफ है कि पिछले दिनों में जितने घोटाले सामने आये हैं वो सब के सब निश्चित रूप से ज्वाइंट पार्लियामेंट कमेटी के पास जाने चाहिए उसके बिना विपक्ष संतुष्ट नहीं होगा।
श्री आडवाणी ने कहा कि पश्चिम बंगाल को मार्क्सवादी शासन से मुक्त करने का यह सही समय है। उन्होंने भाजपा-एनडीए शासित राज्यों में लोगों की खुशहाली का उदाहरण देते हुए कहा कि प्रगति और विकास इन राज्यों का प्रतीक चिन्ह बन गया है।

कांग्रेस ने प्रधानमंत्री के बारे में टिप्पणी करने के लिए भारतीय जनता पार्टी की आलोचना की है। उसने कहा कि भाजपा शोर मचाने की रणनीति अपना रही है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता मनीष तिवारी ने आज नई दिल्ली में कहा कि भाजपा को अपने भ्रष्ट नेताओं के खिलाफ कार्रवाई करनी चाहिए, जो कर्नाटक में सरकारी खजाने के नुकसान के लिए जिम्मेदार है।

सीबीआई के निदेशक ए. एस. सिंह ने लोक-लेखा समिति को बताया है कि ये कहना गलत होगा कि टू-जी स्पैक्ट्रम आबंटन में राजस्व का कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ। यह जानकारी लोक-लेखा समिति के अध्यक्ष डॉक्टर मुरली मनोहर जोशी ने आज नई दिल्ली में दी। इससे पहले, सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी और संचार मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने कहा था कि टू-जी स्पैक्ट्रम के आबंटन में कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ है।

सरकार ने कहा है कि टेलीफोन टैपिंग का आदेश देते समय सही प्रक्रिया अपनाई गई और अंतिम मंजूरी देने से पहले एक उच्चस्तरीय समिति ने प्रत्येक मामले की समीक्षा की। केंद्रीय गृहसचिव जी.के. पिल्लई ने नई दिल्ली में कि टेलीफोन और ई-मेल टैपिंग करने के सभी मामलों में निर्धारित प्रक्रिया और उच्चतम न्यायालय के फैसले तथा टेलीग्राफ अधिनियम के अंतर्गत नियमों का पालन किया जाता है। उन्होंने कहा कि केंद्रीय गृहसचिव और राज्यों के गृहसचिव टेलीफोन टैपिंग का आदेश देते हैं।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि विभिन्न एजेंसियों द्वारा केंद्रीय गृहसचिव से इजाजत लेकर औसतन छह हजार से आठ हजार टेलीफोनों की टैपिंग की जाती है। इसके अलावा राज्य सरकारों द्वारा करीब दस हजार और टेलीफोनों की टैपिंग की जाती है।

1975 से शुरू हुआ विश्व कप क्रिकेट प्रतियोगिता का कारवा, अपने दसवें संस्करण में तीसरी बार भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप पर पहुंचा है। पहले विश्व कप का आयोजन 1975 में इंग्लैंड में हुआ था। वेस्टइंडीज ऑस्ट्रेलिया को सत्रह रन से हराकर पहला विश्व चैंपियन बना था। 1979 में दूसरे विश्व कप में भी करेबियाई टीम ने अपना बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन जारी रखते हुए लगातार दूसरी बार खिताब जीता था। 1983 में तीसरे विश्व कप में वेस्टइंडीज के लगातार दो विश्व कप में जीत के सिलसिले को भारतीय टीम ने तोड़ा। कपिल देव की अगुवाई में टीम ने फाइनल में वेस्टइंडीज को 43 रन से हराकर खिताब अपने नाम किया। 1987 में पहली बार भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में आयोजित चौथे विश्व कप को ऑस्ट्रेलियाई टीम ने अपने नाम किया। 1992 में ऑस्ट्रेलिया और न्यूजीलैंड के संयुक्त मेजबानी में आयोजित पांचवें विश्व कप में पाकिस्तान ने सबको चौकाते हुए विश्वकप हासिल किया। 1996 में श्रीलंका ने बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन करते हुए खिताब अपने नाम किया। सातवां विश्व कप 1999 में वापस इंग्लैंड की सरजमी पर पहुंचा। इसके बाद ऑस्ट्रेलियाई टीम ने 2003 और 2007 का विश्व कप जीतकर अपनी खिताबी हैट्रीक भी पूरी की। 2003 में दक्षिण अफ्रीका में फाइनल में उसने भारतीय टीम को 125 रन से हराया था। वहीं, 2007 में उसने श्रीलंका को हराकर खिताब जीता था।

दक्षिणी मुंबई की विवादास्पद आदर्श हाउसिंग सोसायटी के सदस्यों ने इमारत गिराने के केन्द्रीय पर्यावरण और वन मंत्रालय के आदेश को बम्बई उच्च न्यायालय में चुनौती दी है। पर्यावरण मंत्रालय ने 16 जनवरी को इस अनधिकृत 31 मंजिला इमारत को तीन महीने के अंदर गिराने के निर्देश दिए थे क्योंकि इसके निर्माण में तटवर्ती क्षेत्र नियमों का उल्लंघन किया गया था। याचिका में कहा गया है कि सोसायटी ने सभी नियमों का पालन किया। इस बीच, रक्षामंत्री ए. के. एंटनी ने आज नई दिल्ली में कहा है कि सरकार आदर्श हाऊसिंग सोसायटी घोटाले की सी. बी. आई. जांच की मंजूरी देगी।

केरल पुलिस ने उच्चतम न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश के विरूद्ध विवादित भ्रष्टाचार सम्बन्धी बयान देने के मामले कन्नूर के सांसद
के खिलाफ एक मामला दर्ज किया है। यह मामला तिरूअनन्तपुरम के म्यूजियम पुलिस थाना में दर्ज हुआ है।

सरकार ने सेना द्वारा व्हित्जर तोपों के गोपनीय परीक्षण करने संबंधी रिपोर्ट लीक हो जाने की खबरों की जांच का आदेश दिया है। भारत अमरीका से अत्यंत हल्की एम.-777 तोपें खरीदने पर विचार कर रहा है। रक्षामंत्री ए.के. एंटनी ने आज नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों को बताया कि रक्षा मंत्रालय की खरीद प्रक्रिया को कोई भी व्यक्ति प्रभावित नहीं कर पाएगा।

After Tunisia and Egypt, anti-government protests are now taking place in Iran, Bahrain and Yemen. In Iran, protesters are staging anti-government demonstrations in Tehran supporting rallies backing Arab uprisings. Riot police today fired tear gas and paintballs to disperse the agitating mops. Despite a ban, demonstrations were staged to mark the first anti-government protests in Tehran since February 11, last year. In the same month last year activists took to the streets on the 31st anniversary of the Islamic revolution. Mobile phone services were cut and there were power blackouts in areas where the protests were taking place, witnesses said. But, lawmakers today demanded that opposition leaders be hanged following violent anti-government protests in Tehran which left one person killed. The leaders are reported to be backed by Iran's arch-foes.

In Bahrain, one protestor was killed today in capital Manama, when Bahraini security forces opened fire at opposition activists attending the funeral of a man killed yesterday in a crackdown on pro-reform protests. Reports quoting witnesses say the second activist was killed today, when police moved to break up the crowd gathering for the funeral outside a hospital in Manama. The first man was killed yesterday as Bahraini security forces raided Shi'ite villages across the island nation to disperse rallies by anti-government activists. At least 20 other people were wounded in that unrest.

Thousands of Yemeni opposition activists  rallied in the capital, Sana'a, on the fifth day of protests demanding political reforms and the ouster of longtime President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Yemeni police used batons to try to disperse about 3,000 protesters, mostly students, who marched from Sana'a University toward the city center today. Some of the activists responded by throwing stones. Three protesters were injured. The  protesters chanted anti-Saleh slogans similar to those used in uprisings that forced authoritarian leaders in Egypt and Tunisia to step down in recent weeks. A group of pro-Saleh demonstrators also gathered in Sana'a to try to confront the anti-government protesters. The two sides have engaged in street battles in recent days. Yesterday, at least 1,000 anti-government activists marched in the capital.

Egypt has called on the international community to help speed up its economic recovery after a revolt that toppled President Hosni Mubarak. In a statement, Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul Gheit claimed that Egypt remain close to the Palestinian cause and continue to support the rights of the Palestinian people, including the pursuit of a UN Security Council resolution to freeze Israeli settlements.

While situation in Egypt is returning to normal, country’s foreign minister has requested international help for Egyptian economy, which has been severely affected by the political crisis. But ripple effects of Egypt and Tunisia are seen in Yemen, Bahrain and Algeria so far and protestors took to the streets in Tehran. Palestinian Authority has decided to form a new cabinet in an attempt to pre-empt any possible reaction. In neighbouring Yemen, young demonstrators are regularly protesting against government demanding resignation of President Abdullah Saleh, who is in power for than 30 years. In Iran, opposition leaders have compared the unrest in Egypt and Tunisia with their own struggles saying all revolts in the region are aimed at ending the oppression of the rulers.

CBI Director A .S. Singh  has told the  Public Accounts Committee  that it would be  wrong to say that zero loss was caused to the exchequer in 2G spectrum allocation.  This was stated  by   PAC Chairman  Dr Murlimanohar  Joshi   in New Delhi . Information Technology and Communications Minister Kapil Sibal had earlier   said that no loss was caused    in the allocation of the 2G spectrum.

Members of the scam-hit Adarsh Housing Society in South Mumbai have approached the Bombay High Court challenging the demolition order passed by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests about one month ago.

Members of the scam-hit Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society have moved the Bombay High Court challenging the demolition order against its 31-storey building by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF). The ministry had on Jan 16 ordered that the scam-hit society's building be demolished within three months for violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification. 103 members of the Society filed a petition in the High Court challenging the Ministry's order on the grounds that it is "wrong in law". The petition would come up for hearing in due course of time.

The Supreme Court has confirmed the death penalty awarded to Surinder Singh Koli in a Nithari killing case near NOIDA.  The apex court described the Killings by Koli as horrifying and barbaric. Koli had approached the apex court after he was sentenced to death by the trial court and the Allahabad High Court in the Rimpa Haldar case, one of the children killed in Noida's Nithari village. Koli, the domestic help of Pandher, has been convicted for raping and killing 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar. The apex court has kept pending the appeal by the Central Bureau of Investigation against the acquittal of businessman Moninder Singh Pandher in the case.

A Delhi court has asked the CBI to file a complete report on the allegation of leaking the confessional statement of Ajmer dargah blast accused Swami Aseemanand. The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Bansal was not satisfied with the brief 2 page report filed by the agency on the issue.

The government has decided to extend the visa of noted Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. He was  detained by revenue enforcement authorities at the Delhi airport for allegedly carrying  1.24 lakh dollars .  Home Secretary G K Pillai told reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today  that the Visa of Pakistani singer has  expired and it will  extended.   Pillai said Khan's passport has already been impounded and he has been asked to appear before the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Thursday .  He said that after  that  there could be adjudication proceeding and  hoped  that the matter would be resolved.

In another attack on a merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea, an Iranian ship MV Sinin, is suspected to be hijacked by the pirates on 12th of February. The Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai has received information  that they have lost contact with the vessel M.V. “SININ” since 12th of this month. The vessel was en route from Fujairah to Singapore when it was attacked around 350 nautical miles east of Masirah in Oman. The vessel is loaded with approximately 52,000 tons of Iron Ore. According to the release, the vessel has a total of 22 crew members which includes 9 Indians and 13 Iranians.

The trial of  Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi  that will determine whether he is guilty of abuse of power and minor prostitution will start in Milan on April 6.  The judge in the case, Cristina Di Censo today granted the request for a fast-track trial filed by prosecutors last Wednesday as she determined evidence of proof existed that the alleged crimes were committed.  She also determined the Milan court had the authority to try a prime minister. The 74-year-old Prime Minister has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the case.

Rallying for the third straight session, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 72 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 18,274, today, on continued value-buying by investors. The Nifty advanced 25 points, or 0.5 percent, to 5,481.  Stock markets in China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore mostly ended lower.  The rupee weakened 1 paise, to 45.51 against the dollar.  Gold rose 80 rupees, to 20,570 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. But silver coins zoomed 3,600 rupees, to a record high of 54,000 rupees for 100 pieces, on marriage season demand. And crude oil futures added 71 cents, to 85.52 dollars a barrel on the NYMEX, while Brent  crude futures neared 104 dollars a barrel .

State-run oil firms today raised jet fuel price by 4 per cent. In the ninth straight increase in rates since October, Aviation Turbine Fuel   rates in Delhi have been hiked by  2,104 rupees  per kilolitre to 53,538 rupees with effect from midnight tonight. Indian Oil Corp, the nation's largest fuel retailer said,the hike has been necessitated because of spurt in international oil rates. Jet fuel will cost 53,538 rupees per kl in Mumbai from tomorrow, as against 51,332.82 rupees.
