• सरकार ने प्रीमियम एस बैंड स्पेक्ट्रम लीज पर देने के एंट्रिक्स देवास अनुबन्ध को रद्द किया। कहा-यह अनुबन्ध देश के सामरिक हित में नहीं।
• सी बी आई की विशेष अदालत ने पूर्व केन्द्रीय मंत्री ए. राजा को १४ दिन की न्यायिक हिरासत में तिहाड़ जेल भेजा।

भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन-इसरो की व्यावसायिक इकाई एंट्रिक्स और प्राइवेट कंपनी देवास के बीच का अनुबंध रद्द कर दिया गया है। सरकार ने कहा है कि इस कम्पनी को प्रीमियम स्लाट उपलब्ध कराना देश के सामरिक हित में नहीं होगा। आज नई दिल्ली में प्रधानमंत्री की अध्यक्षता में हुई केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल की सुरक्षा संबंधी समिति की बैठक में यह फैसला लिया गया। देवास मल्टीमीडिया के साथ हुए समझौते के अन्तर्गत एंट्रिक्स द्वारा देवास मल्टीमीडिया को इसरो के जीसैट-६ और जीसैट-६ए उपग्रहों पर लगे ट्रांसपोंडरों की ९० प्रतिशत सेवाएं उपलबध करानी थीं। सुरक्षा संबंधी समिति की बैठक के बाद विधि मंत्री वीरप्पा मोइली ने कहा कि सरकार व्यवसायिक इस्तेमाल के लिए एंट्रिक्स को भी एस बैंड स्पेक्ट्रम नहीं दे सकती है।

 सरकार ने कहा है कि एंट्रिक्स-देवास एस. स्पैक्ट्रम अनुबंध के समाप्त करने के बाद अगर कोई वित्तीय देनदारियां होंगी, तो उनके बारे में दो-तीन सप्ताह में ही पता लग पाएगा। रक्षा मंत्री ए. के. एंटनी ने नई दिल्ली में आज एक समारोह के दौरान अलग से संवाददाताओं को बतया कि सरकार ने वित्तीय देनदारियों और दूसरे मुद्दों पर विचार करने के लिए एक समिति पहली ही गठित कर दी है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस अनुबंध को रद्द करना इसलिए जरूरी हो गया था क्योंकि रक्षा सेनाओं तथा अन्य सामरिक संगठनों को इसकी अधिक आवश्यकता थी।

 पूर्व केन्द्रीय मंत्री ए राजा को टू जी स्पेक्ट्रम आबंटन घोटाला मामले में १४ दिन की न्यायिक हिरासत में तिहाड़ जेल भेज दिया गया है। सी बी आई की विशेष अदालत ने जेल के अधिकारियों को यह भी निर्देश दिया कि पूर्व मंत्री को उनकी दवाओं और घर का बना भोजन उपलब्ध कराया जा सकता है। अदालत ने ये निर्देश राजा के वकील के अनुरोध पर दिए। राजा को टू-जी स्पैक्ट्रम घोटाले के सिलसिले में इस महीने की दो तारीख को दूरसंचार सचिव सिद्धार्थ बेहुरा और उनके पूर्व निजी सचिव आर. के. चंदोलिया के साथ गिरफ्तार किया गया था।

 बम्बई उच्च न्यायालय ने आदर्श हाउसिंह सोसाइटी घोटाले के मामले में गायब दस्तावेजों की जांच का काम सीबीआई को सौंप दिया है। उसे तीन सप्ताह में प्रगति रिपोर्ट देने को कहा गया है।

 केन्द्रीय सतर्कता आयोग ने केन्द्र सरकार के सभी संस्थानों से कहा है कि वे भ्रष्टाचार पर रोक लगाने के लिए दो महीने के अन्दर अपने यहां सतर्कता विभाग खोलें और मुख्य सतर्कता अधिकारी निुयक्त करें। यह परामर्श केन्द्र सरकार के अधीन कंपनियों, समितियों और स्थानीय प्राधिकरण को दिए गए हैं। भ्रष्टाचार निरोधी इकाइयां भी सम्बन्धित विभागों में गैरकानूनी और गलत तौर-तरीकों को रोकने में सतर्कता अधिकारियों के काम-काज की समीक्षा कर रही हैं। महत्वपूर्ण विभागों में ४४ मुख्य सतर्कता अधिकारियों के पदों को भरने की प्रक्रिया शुरू की जा चुकी है।

विश्व वन्य जीव कोष-डब्ल्यू डब्ल्यू एफ के तीन कार्यकर्ताओं को आज कोकराझार शहर के पास रिहा कर दिया गया। इन लोगों का इस महीने छह छह तारीख को कोकराझार जिले में उल्टापानी के पास लाओपानी इलाके से कुछ बंदूकधारियों ने अपहरण कर लिया था।
 हथियारबंद उग्रवादी विश्व वन्य जीव कोष के छह कार्यकर्ताओं को अपने साथ ले गए थे। बाद में इनमें से तीन लड़कियों को आठ फरवरी को रिहा कर दिया गया था।

ओड़िशा सरकार ने मलकानगिरि के अपहृत जिला मजिस्ट्रेट आर. वी. कृष्ण की रिहाई के लिए माओवादियों के साथ बातचीत करने का फैसला किया है। गृह सचिव यू. एन. बेहेड़ा ने भुवनेश्वर में आकाशवाणी को बताया कि राज्यभर में माओवाद विरोधी अभियान रोक दिए गए हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि माओवादियों को मलकानगिरि में या भुवनेश्वर में ओड़िशा सचिवालय में गृह विभाग में बातचीत के लिए खुला निमंत्रण दिया जा रहा है।

 आज दिनभर काफी मुश्क्कत के बाद उड़ीसा सरकार ने मालकल्लन जिला मजिस्ट्रेट और कलेक्टर आर. वीनेल  कृष्णा को बंधक से  छुड़ाने के लिए माओवादी से बातचीत करने को राजी हो गया है। कोंडिंग ऑपरेशन को तुरन्त बंद करना और जेल में रख गये माओवादियों को रिहा करना जैसी दो बड़ी मांगो के साथ माओवादी अड़े हुए है। कल शाम तक उन्होंने सरकार को समय दिया है। मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पट्नायक ने भी वीनेल कृष्णा को छोड़ने के लिए माओवादियों से अपील की वे कांग्रेस और बीजेपी के मुख्यमंत्री विधानसभा में इस मुद्दे को लेकर कड़ी आलोचना किया है।

 माओवादी समर्थक और क्रांतिकारी लेखक वरवरा राव ने माओवादियों से मलकानगिरि के अपहृत कलैक्टर आर. वी. कृष्ण और एक जूनियर इंजीनियर को तत्काल रिहा करने की अपील की है।

 गलकानगिरि जिला की कलेक्टर वीनेल  कृष्णा को और उनके साथ जो आदिवासी इंजीनीयर को  मोओसिस्ट लोग जो किडनेप किये है। मानवीय दृष्टि से छोड़ देने के लिए मैं आपको विनती कर रहा हू।
 श्री राव ने ओड़िशा सरकार से माओवादियों की उचित मांगों को पूरा करने का भी आग्रह किया है। बताया जाता है कि कलैक्टर को रिहा कराने के लिए ओड़िशा सरकार ने उनसे मदद मांगी थी।

 विभिन्न राज्यों में छह विधानसभा सीटों के उपचुनाव का परिणाम घोषित कर दिया गया है। छत्तीसगढ़ की संजारी पलोद विधानसभा सीट भारतीय जनता पार्टी की कुमारी बाई साहू ने जीती है। झारखंड की खरसवां सीट पर भाजपा उम्मीदवार मुख्यमंत्री अर्जुन मुंडा विजयी रहे हैं। मणिपुर में कोन्थौजाम विधानसभा सीट, तृणमूल कांग्रेस के उम्मीदवार कोन्थौजाम शरद सिंह को मिली है। गुजरात में खाड़िया सीट भारतीय जनता पार्टी के उम्मीदवार भूषण भट्ट ने जीती है। मध्यप्रदेश में कुक्‌शी सीट भाजपा के मुकम सिंह किराड़े ने और सोनकुच्च सीट भाजपा के ही राजेन्द्र वर्मा ने जीती है।

 तेलंगाना क्षेत्र में सरकारी कर्मचारियों तथा अलग राज्य के समर्थकों ने आज असहयोग आंदोलन शुरू किया। कई स्थानों पर सरकारी कर्मचारी बैज लगाकर कार्यालय आए और उन्होंने कार्यालय परिसरों में बैनर भी लगाए।

 प्रधानमंत्री की कल से शुरू हो रही असम यात्रा को देखते हुए पूरे राज्य में कड़े सुरक्षा प्रबन्ध किये गये हैं। डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह दो दिन की इस यात्रा के दौरान गुवाहाटी, जोरहट और शिवसागर में कई कार्यक्रमों में हिस्सा लेंगे।

 सरकार ने घरेलू बाजार में प्याज की कीमत में तेजी से गिरावट के बाद इसके निर्यात पर लगा प्रतिबन्ध हटाने का फैसला किया है। वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी की अध्यक्षता में अधिकार प्राप्त मंत्रिदल ने प्याज की कीमत में फिर से वृद्धि की आशंका के मद्देनजर एहतियात के तौर पर करीब २८ हजार रुपये प्रति टन के न्यूनतम मूल्य पर प्याज निर्यात की अनुमति दी है।

 खाद्य पदार्थों की मुद्रास्फीति की दर इस महीने की पांच तारीख को समाप्त हुए सप्ताह में लगातार दूसरे हफ्ते कम होकर ११ दशमलव शून्य पांच प्रतिशत हो गई। ऐसा दालों, गेहूं और आलू के दाम गिरने के कारण हुआ। नौ सप्ताहों में यह सबसे कम दर है। इससे पहले के हफ्ते में यह दर १३ दशमलव शून्य सात प्रतिशत थी।

 खाद्य पदार्थों की मुद्रास्फीति की दर कम होने से मुंबई शेयर बाजार का संवेदी सूचकांक आज लगातार पांचवें दिन बढ़त दर्ज करते हुए २०६ अंकों के उछाल के साथ १८ हजार ५०७ अंकों पर बंद हुआ। उधर, नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी ६५ अंकों की बढ़त के साथ पांच हजार ५४६ अंकों पर जा पहुंचा।

दसवें विश्वकप क्रिकेट टूर्नामेंट का भव्य उद्घाटन समारोह आज बंगलादेश की राजधानी ढाका में आयोजित किया गया।

दूधिया रोशनी में नहाए ढाका के बंगबंधु नेशनल स्टेडियम पर आयोजित विश्व कप के रंगारंग उद्घाटन समारोह के साथ ही ४३ दिन तक चलने वाले क्रिकेट के इस महाकुंभ का आगाज हो गया। उद्घाटन समारोह की शुरूआत बांग्लादेश के राष्ट्रीय गीत के साथ हुई जिसके बाद स्थानीय गायकों ने गीत पेश किये। जाने-माने भारतीय गायक सोनू निगम ने भी अपनी प्रस्तुति से लोगों को झूमने पर मजबूर कर दिया।

आई सी सी के अध्यक्ष शरद पवार ने टूर्नामेंट में हिस्सा ले रही सभी टीमों को शुभकामनाएं देते हुए विश्व कप को भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के लिए ऐतिहासिक बताया।

बंगलादेश की प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना ने विश्व कप के विधिवत्‌ उदघाटन की घोषणा की।

१३५ मिनट तक चले इस उद्घाटन समारोह में तीनों मेजबान देशों भारत, श्रीलंका और बंग्लादेश की समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक विरासत की झांकी देखने को मिली। अब शनिवार से मैदान पर असली मुकाबलों की शुरुआत हो जाएगी। आज ही कप्तान धोनी के नेतृत्व में ढाका पहुंची भारतीय टीम पहले मैच में मेजबान बंगलादेश का सामना करेगी।

चौंतीसवें राष्ट्रीय खेलों में महिला फुटबॉल स्पर्धा के सेमीफाइनल में उड़ीसा का मुकाबला बंगाल से तथा मणिपुर का सामना तमिलनाडु से होगा। इस बीच, केरल ने महिला वालीबाल स्पर्धा का स्वर्ण पदक जीत लिया है। पुरुष वर्ग में तमिलनाडु ने केरल को हराकर स्वर्ण पदक जीता।
राष्ट्रीय खेलों की लयबद्ध जिम्नास्टिक्स स्पर्धा का स्वर्ण महाराष्ट्र की अक्षिता शेट्टी ने हासिल किया। अक्षिता के शानदार प्रदर्शन की बदौलत महाराष्ट्र ने टीम स्वर्ण पर कब्जा किया।

 राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटिल ने फिल्म कलाकार ए के हंगल को एक लाख रूपये की वित्तीय सहायता दी है। ए के हंगल इन दिनों बीमार हैं और वे चिकित्सा बिलों के भुगतान के लिए वित्तीय संकट से गुजर रहे हैं।  ९५ वर्षीय श्री हंगल को राष्ट्रपति विवेकाधीन अनुदान से एक लाख रूपये का चैक भेज दिया गया है।

 श्रीलंका में जाफना की एक अदालत ने २४ भारतीय मछुआरों को पहली मार्च तक रिमांड पर न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया है। मजिस्ट्रेट ने कहा है कि इन लोगों की रिहाई के लिए उचित कानूनी प्रक्रिया का पालन करना जरूरी है। इन मछुआरों को सात मछली-मार नौकाओं के साथ कल शाम को पकड़ा गया था और इन पर श्रीलंका के समुद्र में मछली पकड़ने का आरोप था।

 भारत ने आशा व्यक्त की है कि श्रीलंका सरकार   कब्जे में लिये गये सभी भारतीय मछुआरों की रिहाई के लिए जल्द जरूरी कदम उठायेगी। विदेश मंत्री एस एम कृष्णा ने बताया कि उन्होंने इस मुद्दे को श्रीलंका सरकार के सामने रखा है और उसे सलाह दी है कि कब्जे में लिये गये भारतीय मछुआरों को छोड़ देना चाहिए।

 रिहाई प्रक्रिया शुरू कर दी जानी चाहिए। श्रीलंका में आज अवकाश के कारण न्यायालय बंद है। हमें आशा है कल न्यायालय काम करेंगे। आशा है श्रीलंका सरकार कल सभी १३६ मछुआरों को छोड़ने की कार्रवाई शुरू कर देगी।

 तंजानिया में दार-एस-सलाम में एक सेना चौकी पर गलती से हुए विस्फोट में ३२ लोग मारे गए हैं। विस्फोट के बाद शहर का हवाई अड्डा बंद कर दिया गया।

 बहरीन की सेना ने कहा है कि उसने राजधानी मनामा के अधिकांश हिस्सों को निमंत्रण में ले लिया है और प्रदर्शन पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया है।सेना ने आज सरकारी टेलीविजन पर यह घोषणा की ।
 ईरान में सोमवार को हुए प्रदर्शन के दौरान झडपों में दो लोग मारे गये हैं ।

The Government has annulled forthwith the deal ISRO's commercial arm Antrix had struck with a private company for lease of premium S-Band space segment saying it is not in the country's strategic interest. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, decided to annul the contract Antrix had entered into with Devas Multimedia under which it was to lease out 90 per cent transponders on two of ISRO's satellites. Talking to reporters after the meeting in New Delhi today, Law Minister Veerappa Moily said that  when the question of strategic requirement arises, the government cannot give S-band spectrum even to Antrix for commercial use. He made it clear that the Chaturvedi Committee will continue its probe into  the different aspects of  spectrum allocation by Antrix and submit its report.

In a related development, Defence Minister, A. K. Antony said that the exact financial obligations, if any, following the annulment of Antrix-Devas S-Spectrum deal will be known in two to three weeks' time. Talking to newsmen on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, the Defence Minister said that the contract had to be scrapped as the scarce spectrum was needed by the strategic organisations like Defence Forces and others.

The BJP today sought to know the reasons for signing the Antrix-Devas deal in the first place and as to why it took so long to scrap it. BJP spokesperson Nirmala Seetharaman said in New Delhi the people of the country should clearly understand why it took several months for the government to scrap the deal despite Space Commission's recommendation to do so. She was reacting to the decision by the Cabinet Committee on Security to annul the deal on the basis of a recommendation from the Space Commission.

Former Telecom Minister A Raja, arrested for his alleged role in 2G Spectrum allocation scam, was sent to Tihar Jail by a Delhi court today under 14-days judicial custody. Raja was arrested by the CBI on the 2nd of February along with former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura and his former personal secretary R K Chandolia. Another accused Shahid Usman Balwa, promoter of Swan Telecom is still in the CBI custody undergoing interrogation. He is to be produced before the court on Friday following expiry of his four-day custody with the agency.

Shekhar Deorukhkar, arrested for his role in the multi-crore rupees overlays scam in connection with Commonwealth Games was remanded in two more days of CBI custody today. Shekhar is a close aide of former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi.

The Central Vigilance Commission has asked all bodies controlled by the Central government to establish vigilance departments and appoint Chief Vigilance Officers within two months to check corruption. It has specifically issued advises to all corporations, government companies, societies and local authorities owned or controlled by Central government in this regard. The anti-corruption watchdog is also assessing the performance of vigilance officers in checking illegal and unfair practices in their respective departments.

The Odisha Government has decided to negotiate with the Maoists who have abducted Malkangiri district magistrate and collector R V Krishna. Odisha Home Secretary U.N Behera today told All India Radio at Bhubaneswar that Maoists are being given open invitation for dialogue with the Government either at Malkangiri or at Home Department in the Odisha Secretariat at Bhubaneswar. 

The Maoists have given 48-hour deadline to the Odisha Government to stop anti-maoist operation immediately and release of jailed maoists in liue of freeing Krishna. With less than 24 hours to go for the deadline, Odisha Home Secretary UN Behera has appealed the red-ultras to come to the table for negoiation. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also appealed the red-ultras to free the IAS officer as he has been serving the poor people of Maoist-affected Malkangiri district. Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress and BJP have slammed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for failing to act on the issue and surrendering itself before the Maoists.

Maoist sympathizer and revolutionary writer Varavara Rao appealed to Maoists to release the abducted Malkangiri Collector R. Veenel Krishna and a junior engineer immediately.

Rao has also asked the Orissa Government to fulfill the genuine demands of the Maoists on the occasion. He was reportedly contacted by the Orissa Government for help to get the collector freed.

The Bombay High Court today transferred from the Mumbai Police to CBI, the investigation into the missing documents relating to crucial clearances in the Adarsh housing society scam. The order was passed by a bench headed by Justice B H Marlapalle which directed CBI to submit a progress report within three weeks. In another development, a separate bench of the court sought a response from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest by March 8 to a petition filed by the members of the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society challenging the notice for demolition of the 31-storey building.

Infosys Chief Executive Officer K. Gopalakrishnan has said that in the near future, India would be emerging as a major IT destination of the world. He was addressing the media after the inaugural function of Infosys software development centre at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram.

Urging the Centre to simplify Income tax procedures to give further boost to IT sector , IT pioneer Kris Gopalakrishnan said that India's IT sector is to record 16 to 18 per cent growth this fiscal and that of Infosys will be around 26 per cent. He pointed out that compared to near stagnation in the United States, 14 lakh students are learning engineering courses in India. Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan inaugurated the first software development Centre of Infosys that can absorb 1600 professionals at the Technopark premises.

Food inflation fell for the second straight week to a nine-week low of 11.05 per cent for the week ended February 5. This follows decline in pulses, wheat and potato prices. Food inflation fell by 2.02 percentage points during the week ended February 5 from 13.07 per cent in the week ended January 29. However, on the whole, vegetables became nearly 24 per cent costlier during the week ended February 5, pushed up mainly by a 31.33 per cent increase in onion prices.

Meanwhile The Government today decided to lift ban on export of onions after its prices almost crashed in the domestic market, which triggered farmers' protest. The decision to this effect was taken by an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on Food headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. The government had banned onion export in the last week of December, 2010 to augment domestic supply and contain rising onion prices, which had touched 70 to 80 rupees per kilogram then.

Lifted by easing food inflation, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange extended its gains for the fifth straight session, climbing 206 points, or 1.1 percent, to 18,507, today. The Nifty advanced 65 points, or 1.2 percent, to 5,546. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore ended mixed.  The rupee appreciated 17 paise, to 45.35 against the dollar. Gold added 20 rupees, to 20,700 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. And crude oil futures declined 30 cents, to 84.69 dollars a barrel on the NYMEX, while Brent crude futures remained above 104 dollars a barrel .

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 got off to a colourful and spectacular start this evening with a magnificent inaugural ceremony at the Bangabandhu national stadium. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who declared the tournament open hoped that the fraternity among nations will be further strengthened through the World Cup Cricket tournament.

Maharashtra have won both the individual and team gold medals in the Rhythmic gymnastics competitions of the 34th National Games.  At the Khelgaon in Ranchi late last night,  Maharashtra girls emerged at the top in the team championship with 182.08 points. Jammu and Kashmir got the Silver while Punjab took the bronze.  In the individual event, Maharashtra's Akshita Shetty won the gold while her state-mate Sipra Joshi finished second for the silver. Jammu and Kashmir's Mitali stood third for the bronze.

Bahrain's military has said that it has taken control of most of capital Manama and has banned protests. This was announced by the military on the state TV today. In a related development a leader of the opposition party, Abdul Jalil Khalil has said that 18 parliament members have resigned to protest the killings.

Security forces moved early this morning to clear protesters who were camping out in the central Manama square calling for sweeping political reforms. Since Monday, Bahrini protestors were demonstrating, demanding more powers to Parliament and limiting the authority of the King. Two people were killed during clashes with security forces earlier and country’s king had announced an investigation in to the incidents. Bahrain is the long-time home to the U.S. Navy's fifth Fleet and considered very important for the U.S. defence strategy in the middle East.
