Lohri being celebrated with great pomp & show in North India
Jan 13,  1:32 PM
In north India, Lohri is being celebrated today with great pomp and show. In the morning, people took holy dip in the rivers, canals and ponds in their belief that it will nullify their sins. In the evening, the bonfires will be lit and rewari, peanuts, jaggery, popcorn and sesame seeds would be offered while singing and dancing around them, to the beats of the dhol.

It is one of the greatest festivals of Punjab and Haryana celebrated on the 13th of January every year at the end of the month of Paush, a day before Makar Sankranti. With this, the earth starts coming closer to the sun, thus ending the coldest month of Paush, and begins the month of Magh and the auspicious period of Uttarayan.
