• उच्चतम न्यायालय ने ओड़ीश में पुरी में प्रस्तावित वेदांत विश्वविद्यालय के लिए ली गई जमीन के मामले में यथास्थिति बनाए रखने को कहा।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने ओड़ीशा में पुरी में प्रस्तावित वेदान्त विश्वविद्यालय के लिए अधिग्रहण की गई या की जाने वाली जमीन के मामले में यथास्थिति बनाये रखने को कहा है। यह आदेश न्यायमूर्ति डी0 के0 जैन और न्यायमूर्ति एच0 एल0 दातु की खंडपीठ ने दिया है। इससे अब वेदान्त विश्वविद्यालय परियोजना पर काम रूका रहेगा। ओड़ीशा सरकार और परियोजना के प्रोमोटर अनिल अग्रवाल फाउन्डेशन ने, इस परियोजना के लिए जमीन लेने में खामियों के बारे में ओडीशा उच्च न्यायालय के फैसले को उच्चतम न्यायालय में चुनौती दी थी। ओड़ीशा उच्च न्यायालय ने राज्य सरकार और वेदान्त विश्वविद्यालय के अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिया था कि ली गई ज+मीन उसके मूल मालिकों को वापस कर दी जाए। इस फैसले को लेकर ओड़ीशा में बहुत शोर मचा था। कांग्रेस और भाजपा सहित विपक्षी दलों ने इसकी कड़ी आलोचना की थी।

गुजरात में विशेष जांच दल के एक सदस्य ने दावा किया है कि गुजरात पुलिस ने इशरत जहां को फर्जी मुठभेड़ में मारा था। अहमदाबाद के संयुक्त पुलिस आयुक्त सतीश वर्मा ने आज इस मामले में गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय में हलफनामा दायर किया। इस में श्री वर्मा ने कहा है कि 2004 में पुलिस ने 19 वर्षीय इशरत को फर्जी तरीके से मारा था और इस मामले में अलग से एफआईआर दर्ज की जानी चाहिए। अहमदाबाद के बाहरी इलाके में जून 2004 में पुलिस ने इशरत, उसके पुरूष मित्र और दो अन्य लोगों को मार दिया था। बाद में पुलिस ने दावा किया था कि इन लोगों के तार पाकिस्तान स्थित आतंकवादी संगठन लश्करे तैयबा से जुड़े थे और ये मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी की हत्या करने जा रहे थे। हमारे अहमदाबाद संवाददाता ने बताया है कि गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय द्वारा मामले की जांच के लिए तीन सदस्यीय विशेष जांच दल का गठन करने के आदेश के बाद श्री वर्मा का यह हलफनामा महत्वपूर्ण है। विशेष जांच दल के प्रमुख दिल्ली के संयुक्त पुलिस आयुक्त करनल सिंह हैं और गुजरात के एक अन्य पुलिस अधिकारी मोहन झा इसके सदस्य हैं।

इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय ने पूर्व जजों की याचिका को आज खारिज कर दिया, जिसमें उन्होंने कई करोड़ के भविष्य निधि घोटाले के सिलसिले में गाजियाबाद की सी बी आई अदालत मे व्यक्तिगत रूप से हाजिर होने की छूट मांगी थी। आर एन मिश्रा सहित कुछ अन्य पूर्व जजो ने इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट में एक याचिका दायर कर सी बी आई के विशेष जज द्वारा भविष्य निधि घोटाला मामले के सिलसिले में जारी किए गए नोटिस को चुनौती दी थी।
याचिका पर सुनवाई करने के बाद न्यायधीश अरुण टंडन ने यह अर्जी खारिज कर दी, लेकिन उच्च न्यायालय ने इन जजों को व्यक्तिगत रूप से हाजिर होने की छूट के लिए सी बी आई की अदालत में अर्जी देने की अनुमति दे दी।
गाजियाबाद की सी बी आई अदालत ने छह पूर्व न्यायधीशों और तत्कालीन जिला न्यायधीश को इस महीने सी बी आई की अदालत में पेश होने का 22 दिसम्बर 2010 को नोटिस दिया था।

सरकार ने कहा है कि काले धन से जुड़े विभिन्न पक्षों को लेकर विशेषज्ञों के दो दल बनाये गये हैं। नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों से अनौपचारिक बातचीत में वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा कि विशेषज्ञों का एक दल उनके मंत्रालय को सलाह देगा कि विदेशों में जमा काला धन वापस लाने वाले को किस तरीके से माफी दी जा सकती है। दूसरा अंतर-मंत्रालय दल पता लगायेगा कि विदेशों में कितना काला धन जमा है भविष्य में इसे रोकने के सुझाव देगा, लेकिन श्री मुखर्जी ने इस सवाल का कोई जवाब नहीं दिया कि क्या 28 फरवरी को संसद में पेश किये जाने वाले आम बजट में ऐसी कोई माफी योजना शामिल की जाएगी। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि सरकार श्री मुखर्जी की अध्यक्षता में पहले ही एक मंत्री दल बना चुकी है, जो भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ कानूनी और प्रशासनिक कदमों के बारे में सुझाव देगी।

प्रधानमंत्री ने युवाओं से देश के सामने मौजूद वास्तविक चुनौतियों का मुकाबला करने को कहा है। नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रीय कैडेट कोर-एनसीसी की रैली में डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि नेतृत्व की असली चुनौती, केवल उपलब्धियां हासिल करने के लिए प्रेरित करना नहीं बल्कि समाज के सबसे कमजोर लोगों को भी अभियान में शामिल करना है। उन्होने कहा कि भारतीय समाज की विविधता, मतभेद पैदा नहीं करती बल्कि वह भारतीय गणतंत्र की संजीवनी शक्ति है।

एनसीसी का कार्य ये दर्शाता है कि हमारे समाज की विविधता आपसी मतभेद नहीं पैदा करती बल्कि हमारे गणतंत्र को और मजबूती और जीवंता प्रदान करती है। एनसीसी में मौजूद प्रतिभा, ज्ञान और अनुभव हमारे देश के महत्वपूर्ण संसाधन हैं।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि एनसीसी के अच्छे कार्यों के देखते हुए, सरकार ने इसके कैडेटों की संख्या 13 लाख से बढ़ाकर 15 लाख कर दी है। प्रधानमंत्री ने राय जाहिर की कि एनसीसी को स्थानीय समुदायों के विकास के लिए काम की एक मिसाल पेश करनी चाहिए।
एनसीसी कैडेटों से स्वामी विवेकान्द के पदचिन्हों पर चलने का आग्रह करते हुए डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि वे असीम सहनशीलता का परिचय दें।

सरकार ने पश्चिम बंगाल में आयला तूफान से प्रभावित इलाकों के लिए प्रधानमं+त्री राहत कोष से एक अरब रूपये दिये है। कोलकाता में रायटर्स बिल्डिग में पत्रकारों से बातचीत में राष्ट्रीय आपदा प्रबंधन प्राधिकरण के उपाध्यक्ष एम शशिधर रेड्डी ने कहा कि सरकार उत्तर और दक्षिण चौबीस परगना जिलों तथा पूर्वी मेदिनीपुर जिले में तीन तूफान केन्द्र खोलेगी। राज्य सरकार ने इसके लिए जगह खोज ली है। श्री रेड्डी ने उम्मीद जाहिर की कि अगले महीने तक यह तूफान केन्द्र काम करना शुरू कर देंगे।

विदेश सचिव निरूपमा राव सोमवार को श्रींलंका के नेताओं से अपनी बातचीत में भारतीय मछुआरों की हत्या का मामला मुख्यरूप से उठाएंगी। वे रविवार को कोलंबो जा रही हैं। भारत इन मछुआरों की हत्या पर श्रीलंका के साथ कड़ा विरोध व्यक्त कर चुका है। भारत चाहता है कि इस मामले की गहराई से छानबीन की जाए और एक ऐसी व्यवस्था की जाए ताकि ऐसी घटनाएं दोबारा न हों। श्रीलंका की नौसेना के अधिकारी भारतीय मछुआरों की हत्या से इंकार कर रहे हैं, लेकिन भारतीय अधिकारी लगातार कह रहे हैं कि ये घटनाएं श्रीलंका की समुद्री सीमा में हुई हैं और इसकी पूरी जिम्मेदारी उनकी है।

भारत और पाकिस्तान के विदेश सचिव अगले महीने के पहले सप्ताह में भूटान की राजधानी थिम्फू में मिलेंगे। पाकिस्तान के विदेश सचिव सलमान बशीर और भारत की विदेश सचिव निरूपमा राव दोनों देशों के सम्बन्धों को सामान्य बनाने के रास्ते में आने वाली अड़चने दूर करने की कोशिश करेंगे, लेकिन उनकी बातचीत से कोई नाटकीय परिणाम मिलने की संभावना नहीं है।
अधिकारियों का कहना है कि पाकिस्तान के साथ बातचीत ही उसके साथ सामान्य सम्बन्धों की दिशा में आगे बढ़ने का एकमात्र रास्ता है।
दोनों देशों के विदेश सचिवों की बैठक में पाकिस्तान के विदेश मंत्री खुर्शीद महमूद कुरैशी की भारत यात्रा का एजेंडा और तारीखें तय होने की भी संभावना है।
सूत्रों ने बताया कि नत्थी वीजा के मामले पर चीन के विदेश मंत्रालय के साथ भारतीय अधिकारियों का संपर्क बना हुआ है। वे इस समस्या से निपटने और इसका समाधान निकालने पर काम कर रहे हैं।

मुंबई शेयर बाजार में आज लगातार तीसरे दिन गिरावट रही। संवेदी सूचकांक 288 अंक लुढ़ककर 18 हजार 396 पर बंद हुआ। एक समय सेंसेक्स लगभग 449 अंक लुढ़क गया था। नेशनल स्टाक एक्सचेंज का निटी भी 92 अंक गिरकर पांच हजार पांच सौ बारह पर बंद हुआ।
दिल्ली सर्राफा बाजार में आज सोना स्टैन्डर्ड 360 रूपये की गिरावट के साथ 19 हजार 960 रूपये प्रति दस ग्राम के स्तर पर दर्ज हुआ।

हरियाणा में भूपिन्दर सिंह हुड्डा मंत्रि परिषद का विस्तार किया गया है। राज्यपाल जगन्नाथ पहाड़िया ने आज शाम राजभवन में चार मंत्रियों को पद और गोपनीयता की शपथ दिलाई। ये हैं - विधानसभा के निवर्तमान अध्यक्ष हर मोहिन्दर सिंह चठ्ठा, सतपाल सांगवान, किरण चौधरी और राव नरेन्द्र सिंह। श्री चठ्ठा ने मंत्री पद की शपथ लेने से पहले विधानसभा अध्यक्ष पद से इस्तीफा दिया जिसे राज्यपाल ने स्वीकार कर लिया।

महाराष्ट्र में कांग्रेस महासचिव राहुल गांधी ने अपने पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं से कहा है कि वे विपक्ष के आरोपों से विचलित न हों और आम आदमी के विकास के लिए कार्य करें। आज औरंगाबाद में प्रदेश कांग्रेस समिति की बैठक में श्री राहुल गांधी ने यह भी कहा कि भ्रष्टाचार में शामिल लोगों के खिलाफ सरकार कड़ी कार्रवाई करेगी।

पुलिस ने 17वें करमापा उज्ञेन त्रिनले दोरजी के ट्रस्ट के कार्यालय परिसरों पर छापे मार कर छह करोड़ रूपये की विदेशी मुद्रा बरामद की, लेकिन इस धन के स्रोत के बारे में अभी जानकारी हासिल नहीं हो पायी है।
कानून व्यवस्था के सहायक पुलिस महानिदेशक एस आर मारडी ने आज कहा कि यह धन 25 देशों की मुद्राओं में है।
पुलिस महानिदेशक डी एस मिन्हास ने बताया कि जरूरत पड़ने पर करमापा से पूछताछ भी की जा सकती है।

कर्नाटक में गिरजाघरों पर हमलों की जांच के लिए बने सोमशेखर आयोग ने आज राज्य सरकार को अपनी रिपोर्ट सौंप दी। बंगलौर में मुख्यमंत्री बी0 एस0 येडियुरप्पा को रिपोर्ट सौंपने के बाद न्यायमूर्ति बी.के. सोमशेखर ने कहा कि आयोग इस नतीजे पर पहुंचा है कि सत्तारूढ़ भाजपा और संघ परिवार का इन हमलों में कोई हाथ नहीं था।

इस बीच, बंगलौर चर्च के वरिष्ठ पादरी फादर जयनाथन ने सोम शेखर के निष्कर्षों को सभी को संतुष्ठ करने वाला बताया और कहा कि इसमें सबको क्लीन चिट दे दी गयी है।

मुंबई की विशेष मकोका अदालत ने आज, 2006 में मालेगांव विस्फोट मामले के नौ आरापियों की जमानत याचिका पर सुनवाई सात फरवरी तक स्थगित कर दी। मकोका अदालत के जज यतिन डी शिन्दे ने आरोपियों से कहा कि वे अगली सुनवाई में स्वामी असीमानंद के इकबालिया बयान की सत्यापित प्रति दाखिल करें। सभी आरोपियों ने दावा किया कि स्वामी के इकबालिया बयान से जाहिर होता है कि वे विस्फोट में शामिल नहीें थे।

 The Supreme Court today ordered status quo in respect of land acquired or sought to be acquired for the proposed Vedanta University at Puri in Odisha. Following this, the Vedanta University project will continue to remain stalled. The Odisha government and Anil Agarwal Foundation, promoter of the project, had moved the Supreme Court challenging the Odisha High Court judgement faulting the land acquisition in the project. The Odisha High Court had directed the Odisha government and the Vedanta University authorities to return the acquired land to their original owners.

The Allahabad High Court today rejected an application filed by former judges to get exemption from personal appearcence in the multi crore provident Fund Scam case being heard in CBI court of Ghaziabad. After hearing the petitions Justice Arun Tandon rejected the application moved by Judges including Justice R N Mishra . However the High Court gave permission to judges that they could move their applications before the CBI court for exemptions from personal appearance. The CBI court of Ghaziabad had issued summoned to six former and also then district judges of Ghaziabad on 22nd December 2010 to appear before the CBI Court this month .

Supreme Court today held that the law cannot be applied differently for elected representatives and common man and slammed the Odhisha High Court for granting bail to BJP MLA Mohan Kumar Pradhan, a convict in the 2008 Kandhamal communal riots. Upholding the appeal filed by the widow of a deceased in the riots, a bench asked the High Court to reconsider its decision for granting bail to the Udayagiri constituency MLA .

In Gujarat, a member of the Special Investigation Team has claimed that Ishrat Jehan was killed in a fake encounter by the Gujarat police. Ahmedabad Joint Commissioner of Police Satish Verma filed an affidavit in this regard in the Gujarat High Court today. In his affidavit, Mr. Verma has said that a 19-year-old Ishrat was wrongly killed by the police in 2004, and a separate FIR should be filed in this case. Ishrat was shot dead along with her boyfriend and two others in June 2004 on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. Later, police claimed that the group was on its way to assassinate Chief Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of Pakistan based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Toiba.

 Justice B K Somasekhara  Commission, set up by Yediurappa government to inquire into the attack on churches in Karnataka is of the opinion that neither the ruling BJP or Sangh Parivar Member were involved in the incidents of attack. After submitting the report to the Chief Minister in Bangalore, Justice Somsekhara released the summary of the report to the media.  The Commission has also strongly recommended  legislation against any kind of religious conversions.

The Supreme Court today stayed execution of capital punishment upheld by it earlier for three AIADMK workers involved in burning to death three hapless college girls in Tamil Nadu in 2000. The incident  had taken place after former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's conviction in a corruption case. The order was passed on petitions by three convicts seeking review of the apex court's August 30 verdict last year, upholding death, penalty awarded to them.

The Prime Minister has  called upon the youth  to work towards meeting the real challenges before the country.  Addressing the National Cadet Corps (NCC)  rally in New Delhi today, Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the challenge of true leadership is not just to motivate to achieve, but also, to include the weakest link in the chain. The Prime Minster observed that the diversity in the society does not cause differences but is, in fact, a source of vitality of Indian Republic.

The Prime Minister disclosed that in recognition of the good work done by the National Cadet Corps, the Government has sanctioned an enhancement in its authorized cadet strength from 13 lakh to 15 lakh. Dr. Singh opined that NCC should set an example of working with local community for their uplift.

Government says two groups have been formed to look into the different aspects of black money. In an informal chat with reporters in New Delhi today the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said, one expert group will advice his ministry on the feasibility of amnesty scheme to encourage the people to bring back black money parked in foreign banks. He said, another inter-ministerial group will estimate the amount of black money and suggest ways for curbing its generation.

Posting its third straight day of losses, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange plunged 288 points, or 1.5 percent, to a 5-month closing low of 18,396, today, as investors continued to fret about inflation and interest rates. The Nifty shed 92 points, or 1.6 percent, to 5,512. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore ended mixed. The rupee weakened 19 paise, to 45.76 against the dollar.  Gold dropped 360 rupees, to 19,960 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. And crude oil futures gained 63 cents, to 86.27 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

A Gurgaon court today extended the judicial custody of Shivraj Puri, the alleged mastermind of the 400 crore rupee  Citibank fraud, and co-accused Sanjay Gupta, till February 11. The two are currently lodged in Bhondsi jail. Chief Judicial Magistrate D N Bhardwaj extended the custody by 14 days. Puri, a Relationship Manager employed with Citibank's Gurgaon branch, allegedly duped high net worth individuals  and corporates by collecting funds from them on promise of unusually high returns. Gupta allegedly arranged funds for Puri and in lieu got commission of 20 crore rupees.

The Supreme Court today ruled that Government subsidy  for Haj pilgrimage or similar benefits for other religions is not violative of the Constitution. A bench of justices Markandeya Katju and Gyan Sudha Mishra said in an order that nothing was unconstitutional if a small portion of public money is used for subidising pilgrimage. The apex court made the remarks while dismising a petition filed by former BJP MP Prafull Goradia challenging the constitutional validity of the Haj Committee Act 1959 .

The killing of Indian fishermen will be the main  agenda of the Foreign Secretary Mrs Nirupama Rao's  talks with Sri Lankan leaders on Monday. Mrs Rao will  be travelling to  the island nation on Sunday to discuss the issue.

Reflecting the political sensitivities in Tamil Nadu, India has already reacted very strongly to the notwithstanding Sri Lankan government's claim that its navy was not involved. Last week, Pranav Mukherjee had said that such incidents are “unacceptable” and had asked the Sri Lankan Navy to desist from using force on the fishermen staraying on the International Maritime Boundary Given the fact that Tamilnadu state elections are round the corner, the alleged attacks and the subsequent protests by the fishermen community in this regard becomes even more sensitive.

 In Egypt, protests are taking place demanding political and economic reforms in the country. Protests have been reported in Cairo, Alexandria and Suez, where police are trying to disperse the demonstrating crowd with tear gas.

After days of protests, thousands of demonstrators are protesting in several cities in the country braving rubber-bullets and water-cannons. Reports say that Government has arrested number of opposition members and Internet and mobile services have been targeted in order to stop opposition to organise protests. The series of demonstrations are seen as biggest unrest against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule. Demonstrators are calling for sweeping political and economic changes in the country. Egyptian reform campaigner and Nobel prize winner Mohamed ElBaradei has said that change is inevitable and he will continue to support peaceful demonstration. Country’s interior ministry has however warned that it will not tolerate protests.

US President Barrack Obama has said that reforms are critical for the country and British Foreign Secretary William Hague has urged Egypt to move towards political reform in order to calm the growing unrest. Meanwhile Egypt’s ruling party secretary general Safwat El-Sherif has said that the government is open to public dialogue with the country's youth.

In Afghanistan, at least six people have been killed in a suicide attack at a supermarket popular with foreigners in the Afghan in capital Kabul. Officials say the bomber opened fire in the store before detonating his explosives. Afghans and foreigners were among those killed in the attack. The blast left the finest store, near the British embassy, ablaze and scattered debris across the road.

The German parliament has voted to extend the military mission in Afghanistan by one year despite polls suggesting its unpopularity at home. Extending the mandate to 31 January 2012, parliament set the maximum troop number at 5,350. Germany currently has 4,860 service personnel deployed in the country.

A grateful nation today remembered late freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his 146th birth anniversary. Leader of the Lok Sabha and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurseed led the Parliamentarians in paying floral tributes at the portrait of Lala Lajpat Rai in the Central Hall of Parliament House. The Secretaries-General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, T K Viswanathan, and V K Agnihotri, respectively, also offered floral tributes. There are reports of tributes being paid to the legendary freedom fighter from his native place in Moga district of Punjab.

He had said at that time that every blow on his body would prove to be a nail in the coffin of British Imperialism and that proved true also. Meanwhile, tributes were paid at his native village Dhudike in Moga Distt. The Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Badal while paying rich tributes to this son of the soil said that nation is indebted to him for his unparalleled martyrdom which secured freedom of the country. Lala Lajpat Rai ji’s sacrifice for the country would continue to guide the future generations for years to come.

 Veteran Freedom Fighter Mr. Susil Dhara died at his Midnapur in West Bengal residence this evening after a prolonged. He was aged a hundred years. He actively participated in the quit India movement in 1942 .

Britain's Andy Murray will meet Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the Men's Singles final of the Australian Open Tennis Championships on Sunday.   In the second semi-final in Melbourne today,  Murray defeated David Ferrer of Spain in four sets  4-6, 7-6, 6-1, 7-6. Djokovic had reached the final yesterday when he recorded an upset victory over defending champion Roger Federer in the first semi-final. In the women's singles final tomorrow, Kim Clijsters of Belgium will be facing Li Na of China. Tomorrow will also feature the Men's Doubles final between the Indian veteran duo of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi and the American pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan. While the American twins are seeking their third title in a row, the re-united Indian duo will be trying to win their first-ever Australian Open title.

India's Somdev Devvarman and his partner Rik De Voest of South Africa today entered the semifinal of the men's doubles event at the Singapore ATP challenger tennis tournament. They defeated Dmitry Tursonov of Russia and Chinese Taipei's Jimmy Wang 6-4 3-6 10-7 in Singapore. The pair will take on second seeds Sonchai and Sonchat Ratiwatana of Thailand in the semifinals.
