सरकार ने कहा है कि देश में इस वर्ष गेहूं की पैदावार आठ करोड, चौदह लाख, सत्तर हजार टन होने का अनुमान है, जो अब तक की सबसे अधिक होगी। खाद्यान्न उत्पादन बढ़कर तेईस करोड़ बीस लाख टन से अधिक हो जाएगा। कृषिमंत्री शरद पवार ने वर्ष 2010-11 के लिए दूसरे अग्रिम अनुमान की घोषणा करते हुए बताया कि इस वर्ष देश में गेहूं, दाल और कपास की रिकॉर्ड पैदावार होगी। श्री पवार ने किसानों की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि पिछले साल भी आठ करोड़ आठ लाख टन गेहूं की भरपूर पैदावार हुई थी। उन्होंने बताया कि चावल की पैदावार भी पिछले वर्ष लगभग आठ करोड़ नब्बे लाख टन के मुकाबले इस वर्ष बढ़कर लगभग नौ करोड़ चालीस लाख टन होने का अनुमान है।-----
कृषि मंत्री ने गैर-बासमती चावल, चीनी और प्याज जैसी वस्तुओं की इस साल अधिक पैदावार होने की उम्मीद से इनके निर्यात का संकेत दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि यदि सीमित निर्यात होता है तो इससे किसानों की समस्याएं दूर हो सकती हैं।------
सरकार ने दक्षिण के चार राज्यों में पैदा होने वाले गैर-बासबती चावल की तीन किस्मों के निर्यात की अनुमति देने का फैसला किया है। अधिकार प्राप्त मंत्रियों के दल की आज नई दिल्ली में हुई बैठक में चुनिंदा किस्मों के गैर-बासमती चावल का डेढ़ लाख टन तक निर्यात करने को अनुमति दी गई।------
सीबीआई की एक विशेष अदालत ने आज आरूषि हत्याकांड में उसके माता-पिता नुपुर और राजेश तलवार को आरोपी बनाया है। उन पर सबूत नष्ट करने, षडयंत्र रचने और अपराध करने का आरोप लगाया गया है। अदालत ने दो साल पुराने इस दोहरे हत्याकांड में सीबीआई की क्लोजर रिपोर्ट को नामंजूर कर दिया।आरूषि के माता-पिता को इस महीने की 28 तारीख को अदालत में पेश होने को कहा गया है।
अदालत ने सीबीआई रिपोर्ट के खिलाफ राजेश तलवार की याचिका को नामंजूर कर दिया और फिर से जांच करने के लिये कहा ताकि नौकरों पर शक करने की बात को नाकारा जा सके।
2008 में चौदह साल की आरूषि की हत्या नोएडा में उसके आवास पर कर दी गई थी। उसके एक दिन बाद उसके नौकर हेमराज की लाश तलवार के धर की छत पर मिली थी।

सरकार ने आज सुप्रीम कोर्ट को काला धन वापस लाने के उपायों की जानकारी दी। सरकार ने न्यायालय को बताया कि विदेशों में जमा काले धन को प्रत्यक्ष कर नियम के अंतर्गत कर-योग्य माना जायेगा। सरकार ने न्यायालय को बताया कि दस देशों के साथ कर सूचना आदान-प्रदान समझौता करने के लिये बातचीत पूरी कर ली गई है जहां काला धन जमा हो सकता है।सरकार ने कहा कि इनमें से आठ देशों के साथ समझौते के लिये कैबिनेट की मंजूरी मिल गई है। वित्त मंत्रालय के हलफनामे में कहा गया है कि काले धन का पता लगाने के लिये सरकार ने प्रत्यक्ष कर संहिता विधेयक में नये प्रावधान शामिल करने का प्रस्ताव किया है।

संसद की लोक लेखा समिति ने टू जी स्पैक्ट्रम मामले में गवाही देने के लिये सीबीआई निदेशक ए पी सिंह को अगले सप्ताह पेश होने के लिये कहा है। सीबीआई इस मामले की अक्टूबर 2009 से ही जांच कर रही है और हाल के महीनों में जांच में तेजी आने से पूर्व संचार मंत्री ए. राजा सहित चार लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। भाजपा नेता मुरली मनोहर जोशी की अध्यक्षता वाली लोक लेखा समिति ने अभी तक इस मामले में पूर्व संचार सचिव एस एस बेहुरा और डी एस माथुर, पूर्व ट्राई अध्यक्ष प्रदीप बैजल, दूरसंचार आयोग के पूर्व सदस्य मंजु माधवन और रिजर्व बैंक गवर्नर डी सुब्बाराव की गवाही रिकार्ड की है।---
भारतीय दूरसंचार नियामक प्राधिकरण-ट्राई ने 2 जी स्पैक्ट्रम की कीमतों में वृद्धि का सुझाव दिया है। ट्राई के अध्यक्ष जे.एस. शर्मा ने इस बात की पुष्टि की है कि दूरसंचार विभाग को दी गयी सिफारिशों में ट्राई ने कहा है कि देशभर में 6 दशमलव 2 मेगाहाट्स के शुरूआती स्पैक्ट्रम के बाद प्रत्येक अतिरिक्त मेगाहाट्स स्पैक्ट्रम की कीमत चार हजार, 571 करोड़, 87 लाख रूपये होगी। ट्राई द्वारा सुझायी गयी संशोधित कीमतें पहली अप्रैल से लागू होंगी।-----
मुम्बई में सी बी आई की विशेष अदालत ने आज स्वान टेलीकॉम प्रोमोटर शाहिद उस्मान बलवा को सी बी आई की दो दिन की ट्रांजिट रिमांड पर दे दिया। विशेष अदालत ने कहा कि सी बी आई को पूछताछ के दौरान पूर्व संचार मंत्री ए.राजा और बलवा को आमने सामने करने की जरूरत पड़ सकती है।-----

राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटिल ने आज देश में जनगणना का दूसरा चरण शुरू किया। यह काम इस महीने की 28 तारीख तक चलेगा। इस दौरान प्रत्येक नागरिक का पूरा ब्यौरा एकत्र किया जाएगा। राष्ट्रपति ने लोगों से इसमें पूरा सहयोग करने की अपील करते हुए कहा कि यह एक राष्ट्रीय कर्तव्य है। गृहमंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम, राज्य मंत्री गुरूदास कामत और जनगणना आयुक्त सी. चन्द्र मौली इस मौके पर मौजूद थे। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि इस कार्य के लिए आधुनिक तकनीक का इस्तेमाल किया जाएगा, जिसके तहत मकानों की निशानदेही के लिए जी.आई.एस. प्रणाली अपनाई जाएगी। पूरी जानकारी जुटाने के लिए ऐसी प्रश्नावली तैयार की गई है।जनगणना के दूसरे चरण में लगभग 27 लाख कर्मचारी घर-घर जाकर करीब एक अरब 20 करोड़ लोगों की वास्तविक जानकारी प्राप्त करेंगे। तीन सप्ताह तक चलने वाली इस प्रक्रिया से देश के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में हो रहे जनसंख्या परिवर्तन के बारे में पूरी जानकारी मिलेगी। जनगणना के दौरान साक्षरता का स्तर, वैवाहिक स्थिति, आर्थिक और समाजिक स्थिति के साथ-साथ अन्य जरूरी योजनाएं उसके आधार पर तैयार की जा सके। इस जनगणना के जरिए देश के समन्वित विकास में मदद मिलेगी। दूसरे चरण की जनगणना में आज अपना ब्यौरा दर्ज कराने वाले दूसरे व्यक्ति उपराष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद हामिद अंसारी रहे।

सरकार को आशा है कि इस वर्ष पूर्वोत्तर में नौ उग्रवादी गुटों में से कुछ के साथ समझौता हो जाएगा। इन गुटों की केंद्र के साथ फिलहाल बातचीत चल रही है। गृहमंत्री पी. चिदंबरम ने नई दिल्ली में अपने मंत्रालय से संबंधित संसदीय सलाहकार समिति की बैठक में यह बात कही। उन्होंने कहा कि इस क्षेत्र में 2010 में हिंसा की घटनाएं तथा हताहतों की संख्या इससे पिछले वर्ष के मुकाबले कम हुई है। श्री चिदंबरम ने कहा कि सरकार इस क्षेत्र को आवश्यक अधिकार और धनराशि उपलब्ध कराकर स्वायत्त जिला परिषदों को मजबूत करना चाहती है।-----
असम में शांति बहाली की कोशिश के तौर पर, 31 वर्ष के लंबे संघर्ष के बाद पहली बार प्रतिबंधित अल्फा गुट, केंद्र के साथ रूबरू बिना शर्त बातचीत करेगा। अल्फा के अध्यक्ष अरबिंद राजखोवा के नेतृत्व में आठ सदस्यों का शिष्टमंडल केंद्रीय गृहसचिव जी.के. पिल्लई के साथ नई दिल्ली में बातचीत करेगा। गृहमंत्रालय के सूत्रों के अनुसार श्री पिल्लई से मिलने से पहले अल्फा नेता गृहमंत्री पी.चिदंबरम के साथ परिचय बैठक करेगा। इस शिष्टमंडल की 13 फरवरी को प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह से भी मिलने की संभावना है। बैठक के बाद यह गुट केंद्र के वार्ताकार पी.सी. हलदर के साथ औपचारिक वार्ता शुरू करेगा।------
इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय की लखनऊ पीठ ने अयोध्या में राम जन्मभूमि- बाबरी मस्जिद मालिकाना हक मामले में अपने 30 सितम्बर के आदेश पर अमल के बारे में यथास्थिति को 31 मई तक बढ़ा दिया है।न्यायालय ने अपने 30 सितम्बर के आदेश में अपील के लिये तीन महीने का समय देते हुए निर्देश दिया था कि उस तारीख से फैसले पर अमल नहीं किया जायेगा।

सार्क देशों के मंत्रियों की परिषद ने 22 में से 19 श्रेणियों में वीजा रियायत स्कीम को विवेकपूर्ण बनाने के भारतीय प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दे दी है। इससे इन श्रेणियों के लोगों को सार्क देशों की यात्रा करने पर वहां की पुलिस को रिपोर्ट करने की जरूरत नहीं पड़ेगी। इन 19 श्रेणियों में विशिष्ट गणमान्य व्यक्ति, संसद सदस्य, राजनयिक, सार्क परियोजनाओं में लगे लोग शामिल हैं।-----

The government today said the country's wheat production is estimated to go an all-time high of 81.47 million tonnes while food grains will rise to 232.07 million tonnes in the current year. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi after announcing the second advance estimate for 2010-11 crop year, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said the country will witness record production in wheat, pulses and cotton this year.
Mr. Pawar said this extraordinary feat is possible because of the hard efforts put in by the farming community.

Further, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said that farm credit is likely to reach 4 lakh crore rupees this fiscal against the government's target of 3.75 lakh crore rupees. The credit disbursement in 2009-10 fiscal was nearly 3.84 lakh crore rupees. AIR correspondent reports, as part of farmer-friendly policy, the government has taken several measures to improve agriculture credit flow in order to boost investment in the farm sector.

The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGOM) on Food, headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, met in New Delhi today. It decided to allow exports up to 1.50 lakh tonnes of select varieties.

Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were today made accused in the murder of their teenaged daughter Aarushi by a special CBI Court in Ghaziabad. The Court also rejected CBI's closure report in the over two-year old double-murder case. Judge Preeti Singh took cognisance of CBI's closure report and issued summons to the parents to appear before her on February 28, making them accused on charges of murder, destruction of evidence, conspiracy and common intention to commit the crime.

The Government today spelt out in the Supreme Court host of measures to retrieve black money. The Centre told the apex court that the Black money parked in tax havens abroad will be taxable income under the Direct Taxes Code Bill. It informed the court that it has completed negotiations for Tax Informations Exchange Agreement (TIEA) with 10 countries where the money is believed to have been stashed.

The Chhattisgarh High Court today reserved the judgement on the bail petition of the rights activist and PUCL leader Dr. Vinayak Sen. This development came after the High Court at Bilaspur heard all sides on three different dates beginning 24th of last month. Earlier today the court heard the case presented by the state government. It may be mentioned here that the rights activist Dr. Vinayak Sen, currently undergoing life term handed down by a Sessions Court in Raipur on charges of sedition, had moved the High Court against the judgement.

CBI Director A P Singh has been asked to appear before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, PAC, next week to give evidence in connection with the controversial allocation of 2G spectrum. The central agency has been investigating the 2G spectrum allocation since October, 2009 and the probe has picked up steam in the past few months, leading to the arrest of four persons, including former Telecom Minister A Raja.

Meanwhile Telecom regulator TRAI has revised the norms for 2G spectrum pricing. It has recommended fixing the price for 6.2 megahertz of pan-India start-up 2G spectrum at 10,972.45 crore rupees. It is more than six times the present cost of 1,658 crore rupees. TRAI Chairman J S Sarma confirmed that in its recommendations to the Department of Telecom (DoT), Trai has also said that every megahertz of additional spectrum on an all-India basis beyond the contracted limit of 6.2 megahertz would cost a massive 4,571.87 crore rupees. According to the report, the spectrum prices for both categories -- up to 6.2 megahertz and beyond 6.2 megahertz vary from circle to circle. TRAI has recommended that the new prices be effective from the 1st of April.

Inderjit Singh Reyat, the lone man convicted in the 1985 Air India Kanishka bombing case, has filed a petition challenging his conviction in Canada's worst case of terrorism. Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today announced the dissolution of his cabinet. The move came after all federal ministers submitted their resignations as part of an exercise aimed at refurbishing the government's image. Gilani is now expected to form a smaller council of ministers.
The decision to downsize the cabinet is required according to the provisions of a landmark constitutional reforms package passed last year.

While large number of protestors at Cairo's Tahrir Square are calling for Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's government to step down, country’s Vice President Omar Suleiman has warned that hasty reforms could spell chaos in the country and said that only dialogue and a programme of continuous steps could lead to change. The United States has urged Egypt to immediately lift an emergency law and launch democratic reforms. The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said that Egypt under President Hosni Mubarak has played a key role in seeking peace between Israel and the Palestinians and this role must be preserved in any transition stemming from the current mass protests.
The stalemate between government and protestors in Egypt continues despite government's announcement of gradual political reforms leading to a peaceful transfer of power. The government has promised several concessions since an uprising began two weeks ago but so far, they have fallen short of protesters' central demand of Mr. Mubarak's exit. Government is of the view that only dialogue and a programme of continuous steps could lead to change and hasty reforms could spell chaos in the country. The protestors on the other hand appear to be suspicious of government’s intentions and want immediate regime change. President Mubarak insists that he intends to serve the remainder of his current term and will not contest next election.

Meanwhile, Egyptian official media Al Ahram has reported that two people were killed and 35 injuries in the clashes between young demonstrators and security forces and the police in the early hours of today in the western governorate of Al-Wadi Al-Gadeed, which is 500 kilometers south of Cairo.
