 सी.बी.आई. ने आज पूर्व संचार मंत्री ए.राजा को टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम घोटाले के मामले में नई दिल्ली की पटियाला हाऊस अदालत में पेश किया और पांच दिन की हिरासत की मांग की, जिसे अदालत ने मंजूर कर लिया। रिमांड की अर्जी में सी.बी.आई. ने राजा पर आरोप लगाया कि उन्होंने लाइसेंस के आबंटन में कुछ दूरसंचार कंपनियों को फायदा पहुंचाया, जिससे सरकारी खजाने को दो खरब बीस अरब रुपये का नुकसान हुआ। गिरफ्तारी के एक दिन बाद सी.बी.आई ने पूर्व संचार मंत्री ए. राजा, पूर्व संचार सचिव सिद्धार्थ बेहुरा और राजा के पूर्व निजी सचिव आर.के. चंदौलिया को विशेष सी.बी.आई. अदालत में पेश किया। हिरासत की मांग करते हुए सी.बी.आई. के वकील ने दलील दी कि राजा के फैसलों से कम से कम दो कंपनियों को अरबों रुपये का फायदा पहुंचा। इन कंपनियों ने लाइसेंस मिलने के तुरंत बाद अपने स्पेक्ट्रम अन्य अंतरराष्ट्रीय कंपनियों को बेच दिए थे। सी.बी.आई. ने विशेष न्यायाधीश ओ.पी. सैनी की अदालत में कहा कि आगे की जांच के लिए पूर्व मंत्री को हिरासत में लेना जरूरी है।

 प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह कल नई दिल्ली में राज्यों के मुख्य सचिवों के सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन करेंगे। सम्मेलन में शासन प्रणाली में पारदर्शिता और नैतिकता अपनाने के साथ-साथ सामाजिक क्षेत्र संबंधी सरकार के प्रमुख कार्यक्रमों के अमल में आ रही समस्याओं के बारे में चर्चा होगी। इसके अलावा आंतरिक सुरक्षा सहित अन्य महत्वपूर्ण विषयों पर भी विशेष सत्र होंगे।

 प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा है कि जलवायु परिवर्तन की चुनौतियों का असरदार तरीके से सामना करने के लिए औद्योगिक देशों की प्रतिबद्धता जरूरी है। आज नई दिल्ली में सतत विकास शिखर सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि स्वच्छ और किफायती अक्षय ऊर्जा के बगैर गरीबी नहीं हटाई जा सकती। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा है कि अकेले भारत के प्रयासों से ही जलवायु की स्थिति में विशेष परिवर्तन नहीं हो सकता, क्योंकि विश्व में कार्बन गैसों का केवल चार प्रतिशत उत्सर्जन भारत में होता है। डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि ऊर्जा उत्पादन के तरीकों और उसके उपयोग में बदलाव की जरूरत है। इस चुनौती का सामना करने के लिए भारत के प्रयासों का जिक्र करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि आठ सुत्रीय एक कार्य योजना तैयार की गई है, जिसमें से सात सूत्रों पर पहले से ही काम शुरू हो चुका है। ग्रीन इंडिया यानी हरित भारत नाम का आठवां मिशन भी शीघ्र ही शुरू हो जाएगा।

हम जल्दी ही हरित भारत नाम से आठवां मिशन शुरू करने जा रहे हैं। इस अभियान के तहत वनो की कटाई से खराब हुई ६० लाख हेक्टेयर भूमि पर पेड़ लगाने का काम किया जाएगा।

 बुनियादी ढांचा संबंधी मंत्रिमंडल समिति ने पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र में राष्ट्रीय परियोजनाओं के निर्माण के लिए पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र रेल विकास कोष बनाने की मंजूरी दे दी है। इस कोष की २५ प्रतिशत राशि रेल बजट से प्राप्त होगी, जबकि ७५ प्रतिशत राशि वित्तमंत्रालय देगा। वित्तमंत्रालय द्वारा दी जाने वाली राशि वर्ष के शुरू में ही आवंटित की जा सकेगी। इससे राष्ट्रीय परियोजनाओं को समयसीमा के अंदर पूरा करने के लिए पैसे की कमी नहीं रहेगी।

 संसदीय कार्यमंत्री वी.नारायणसामी ने आशा व्यक्त की है कि संसद के बजट सत्र के दौरान दोनों सदनों के सुचारू संचालन का रास्ता निकल आएगा। आकाशवाणी से विशेष मुलाकात में उन्होंने कहा कि समस्या का समाधान खोजने के लिए वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी मंगलवार को विपक्ष के नेताओं से मुलाकात करेंगे।
 एक प्रश्न के उत्तर में श्री नारायणसामी ने कहा कि अलग से रेल बजट पेश न करने के बारे में कई बार चर्चा हो चुकी है और इस पर अभी भी विचार चल रहा है।

 केन्द्रीय गृह मंत्री पी चिदम्बरम दो दिन के दौरे पर आज शाम जम्मू पहुंचे। उन्होंने वरिष्ठ कांग्रेसी नेताओं सहित नेशनल कान्फ्रेंस-कांग्रेस गठबंधन सरकार में शामिल पार्टी के मंत्रियों, विधायकों, पार्षदों से मुलाकात की।
 हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि श्री चिदम्बरम की अभी राज्यपाल एन एन वोहरा से महत्वपूर्ण बैठक चल रही है।
कल सुबह मुख्यमंत्री के साथ अलग से भी बैठक के बाद वो यूनिफाइड कमांड की मीटिंग में हिस्सा लेंगे जिसमें पुलिस, सेना, अर्द्धसैनिक बलों के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी उनको राज्य के हालात के बारे में जानकारी देंगे। इस महत्वपूर्ण बैठक के बाद केन्द्रीय गृहमंत्री पहाड़ी जिला किश्तवाड़ जायेंगे जहां पर वो जम्मू संभाग के उद्यमपुर, रामवन, किश्तवाड़, डोडा और रियाशी जिलों की ताजा स्थिति पर वहां के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों से बातचीत करेंगे। इस बात की आशा जताई जा रही है कि केन्द्रीय वार्ताकारों की तरफ से दी गई अपनी रिपोर्टों पर इन बैठकों में गृहमंत्री चर्चा करेंगे।

 मिस्र के प्रधानमंत्री अहमद शफीक ने सरकार के समर्थकों और विरोधी प्रदर्शनकारियों के बीच हुई झड़प पर खेद व्यक्त किया है। इस झड़प में पांच लोग मारे गये और ८३६ लोग घायल हुये हैं। सरकारी टेलिविजन पर झड़प को घातक भूल बताते हुए उन्होंने हिंसा की जांच का संकल्प व्यक्त किया। उन्होंने इन घटनाओं में सरकार की भूमिका से इंकार किया। श्री शफीक ने यह भी घोषणा की कि वे तहरीर चौक पर प्रदर्शनकारियों से बातचीत के लिए एक शिष्टमंडल भेजेंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि विपक्षी नेताओं ने बातचीत के किसी भी प्रस्ताव को खारिज करते हुए राष्ट्रपति हुस्नी मुबारक के इस्तीफे की मांग की।

संघर्षों के एक दिन बाद सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शनकारियों का तहरीर चौक पर कब्जा है लेकिन उन्हें इसकी कीमत लोगों की जानों से चुकानी पड़ी। प्रधानमंत्री ने घटना पर क्षमा याचना करते हुए बातचीत का प्रस्ताव किया लेकिन विपक्ष ने इसे ठुकराते हुए राष्ट्रपति हुस्नी मुबारक से इस्तीफा देने की मांग दोहराई है। विश्व भर के नेताओं की राय है कि मिस्र में और अशांति फैलने से पहले राष्ट्रपति मुबारक को पद छोड़ देना चाहिए लेकिन राष्ट्रपति की ओर से तत्काल ऐसे कोई संकेत दिखाई नहीं देते। मिस्र की घटनाओं को देश की अर्थव्यवस्था पर जहां बहुत बुरा प्रभाव पड़ रहा है वहीं इसकी प्रतिध्वनि यमन में भी सुनाई दी, जहां हजारों की संख्या में ३२ सालों से शासनरत राष्ट्रपति सालेह के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन हुए।
 इस बीच, अमरीका की विदेशमंत्री हिलेरी क्लिंटन ने मिस्र में कई दिनों से चल रहे शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शनों के बाद हुईं हिंसा पर दुख व्यक्त किया है।
 इससे पहले, राष्ट्रपति हुस्नी मुबारक की इस घोषणा के बाद कि  वे सितंबर में होने वाले चुनाव में उम्मीदवार नहीं होंगे और राजनीतिक सुधार शुरू करेंगे, ंमिस्र की सेना ने प्रदर्शनकारी युवाओं से घर लौटने की अपील की।

 यमन में एक दिन पहले राष्ट्रपति द्वारा  यह एलान करने के बाद कि वे अगले कार्यकाल के लिए राष्ट्रपति पद के दावेदार नहीं होंगे,  हजारों सरकार समर्थक और विरोधियों ने राजधानी तथा अन्य शहरों में आज प्रदर्शन किया। राष्ट्रपति का यह कदम ट्यूनिशिया और मिस्र में हो रहे विद्रोह से पे्ररित अपने यहां विद्रोह की कोशिश को रोकना है। सरकार विरोधी कई हजार प्रदर्शनकारियों ने आज सना विश्वविद्यालय से रैली की और राष्ट्रपति अली अब्दुल्लाह सालेह को हटाने तथा उनके कार्यकाल को समाप्त करने की मांग की। श्री सालेह करीब ३२ साल से सत्ता में हैं।
 इस बीच, हजारों सरकार समर्थक प्रदर्शनकारियों ने शहर के बाहरी इलाकों में रैली की और विपक्ष पर सरकार को अस्थिर करने तथा अफरातफरी फैलाने का आरोप लगाया।

नेपाल में सीपीएन-यूएमएल के अध्यक्ष झालनाथ खनाल को देश का नया प्रधानमंत्री चुन लिया गया है। संसद अध्यक्ष सुभाष नेमवांग ने आज शाम संसद में इसकी घोषणा की। श्री खनाल के पक्ष में ३६८ वोट पड़े, जो निर्वाचन के लिये साधारण बहुमत के ३०० अनिवार्य वोटों से अधिक हैं ।
   इससे पहले सीपीएन-यूएमएल अध्यक्ष खनाल ने संसद को संबोधित करते हुए कहा कि वे अगले एक डेढ महीने के भीतर सुरक्षाबलों में माओवादी सेना के एकीकरण को पूरा करने और नये संविधान का मसौदा निर्धारित २८ मई के भीतर तैयार करने की पूरी कोशिश करेंगे ।
 हमारे काठमांडू संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि सोलह बार की नाकाम कोशिशों के बाद नेपाल की संसद आखिरकार नये प्रधानमंत्री को आज चुनने में कामयाब हुई।

सीपीएन यूएमएल के अध्यक्ष झालानाथ खनाल आज शाम कुछ देर पहले प्रधानमंत्री के पद पर निर्वाचित होने के बाद नेपाल में सात महीने से चल रहे राजनीतिक गतिरोध समाप्त हुआ है। माओवादी के स्थायी समिति ने अपना उम्मीदवार और पार्टी अध्यक्ष प्रचंड को प्रधानमंत्री की चुनावी दौड़ से उम्मीदवारी वापस लेने के कारण श्री खनाल का चुनावी विजय का मार्ग प्रशस्त हो गया है। गत साल ३० जून से माधव कुमार नेपाल के माओवादी के दबाव में आकर अपने पद से इस्तीफा देने के बाद नेपाल में कोई सक्रिय सरकार नहीं बन पाई थी।

 भारत ने अफगानिस्तान के विकास और पुनर्निर्माण के लिए लंबे समय तक सहायता देने का वचन दोहराया है। भारत ने कहा है कि राष्ट्रपति हामिद करजई के नेतृत्व में अफगानिस्तान को एक मजबूत लोकतांत्रिक, शांतिपूर्ण और संपन्न देश बनाने के प्रयासों को उसका समर्थन जारी रहेगा। अफगानिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति हामिद करजई की नई दिल्ली यात्रा के दौरान जारी संयुक्त वक्तव्य में यह बात कही गई है।

 खाद्य मुद्रा स्फीति, २२ जनवरी को समाप्त हुए सप्ताह में, बढ़कर १७ दशमलव शून्य पांच प्रतिशत हो गई। दूध तथा फल सब्जियों की कीमतें बढ़ने से खाद्य मुद्रा स्फीति में लगातार दूसरे सप्ताह वृद्धि हुई है। इससे पिछले हफ्‌ते ये १५ दशमलव पांच सात प्रतिशत थी। पिछले साल इसी अवधि , ये २० दशमलव पांच छह प्रतिशत दर्ज की गई थी।

लगातार दूसरे सत्र बढ़कर मुम्बई शेयर बाजार का सेंसेक्स आज ३५९ अंकों की अच्छी तेजी दर्ज करता हुआ १८ हजार ४४९ पर पहुंच गया। खाद्य मुद्रास्फीति में बढ़त के बावजूद अत्याधिक गिरे हुए शेयर मूल्यों पर हुई भारी खरीदारी के चलते सेंसेक्स में ये बढ़त आई। नेशनल स्टाक एक्सचेंज का निफ्‌टी ९५ अंक उछलकर ५ हजार ५२७ हो गया।
 रुपया आज डालर के मुकाबले एक पैसे मजबूत हुआ। और एक डालर की कीमत ४५ रुपये ६२ पैसे दर्ज हुई। सोना दिल्ली में डेढ़ सौ रुपये सस्ता होकर २० हजार एक सौ रुपये प्रति दस ग्राम पर आ गया। और कच्चे तेल की वायदा कीमत नायमैक्स में ७७ सेंट बढ़कर ९१ डॉलर ६३ सेंट प्रति बैरल हो गई और ब्रैंट कू्रड की वायदा कीमत १०३ डालर प्रति बैरल से ऊपर पहुंच गई।

The CBI today produced former Telecom Minister A. Raja in a Patiala House Court in New Delhi in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam. It demanded his custody for five days which the Court granted. In its remand petition, the CBI accused Raja of causing a loss of  22,000 crore rupees to the exchequer by favouring some telecom firms in award of the 2G spectrum licences. Raja, former Telecom Secretary Siddartha Behura and Raja's former Personal Secretary R K Chandolia, were produced before Special CBI Judge O P Saini a day after they were arrested. Seeking their custody, CBI counsel Akhilesh argued that due to Raja, at least two telecom firms were benefited to the tune of several hundred crores of rupees by selling their stakes to various other global firms shortly after getting licences. AIR correspondent reports that the CBI said the former minister's custody was essential for further questioning.

The argument of the CBI in the court was Raja's custody is essential for his further questioning as he had been evasive in replying to their queries during his interrogation. The investigation agency arrested him along with former telecom secretary for allegedly abusing the official position and favouring some telecom companies in grant of licences by manipulating the procedures. Earlier, Raja was forced to resign after embarrassing details of the CAG's report  in the allocation of 2G Spectrum issue came to light.  He has also been nailed for procedural lapses by the one man panel  constituted by government  headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Shivraj Patil.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today favoured proper enforcement of regulatory standards to prevent damage to the environment. He however said that  there is no return to the license permit raj system. He also supported that polluter must pay principle to deal with the issue of residual pollution that may be caused despite regulation. Inaugurating 11th edition of Delhi Sustainable Development Summit he made it clear that poverty eradication will have to be linked to the availability of clean renewable and affordable energy. He said India alone can not make significant difference to the climate as its emissions account for only four percent of the global total.

Referring to the steps and efforts  made by India the Prime Minister announced that the eight mission named as Green India will be launched shortly.

Afghan President Mr. Hamid Karzai, President of Dominican Republic Dr. Leonel Fernandez, President of Seychelles James Alix Michel also addressed the summit.

Union Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram arrived in Jammu this evening on a two day visit. The Home Minister is visiting the State to review the security situation and take stock of the political developments. He is expected to visit hilly district of Kishtwar tomorrow where he will review security, law and order and terror situation in five districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Udhampur and Reasi with police and civil administration.

Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq has apologised for the fighting between pro- and anti-government demonstrators, which killed five persons and wounded 836 people. Speaking on state TV, he termed the clashes a fatal error and pledged to investigate the violence. He denied government role in the incidents. Mr. Shafiq also announced that he will send a delegation to Tahrir square to talk to protesters. AIR correspondent reports that the  opposition leaders have rejected any talks and demanded the resignation of President Mubarak.

After a day of clashes, anti-government protesters kept a grim grip on the Tahrir square in an effort to oust their president. However, their continued presence in Square came at the cost - of lives. The opinion of world leaders is that President Mubarak should step aside before Egypt descends in to more Chaos but there is no immediate indication that he will resign. The events in Egypt are taking heavy toll on country’s economy and reverberating in Yemen where a large anti government demonstration took place today against President Saleh.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed shock over violence in Egypt. Five EU nations- Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain- have urged an immediate political transition to end violent unrest in Egypt. The UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has strongly condemned attacks on peaceful demonstrators in Egypt saying this is unacceptable.

In Yemen, several thousand protesters today marched from Sanaa University calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his regime to step down soon. Protests demonstration have also taken place in other towns of the country. Saleh has been in power for nearly 32 years. Meanwhile, several thousand pro-government protesters marched downtown with banners supporting Saleh accusing the opposition of intending to destabilize the government and create chaos in the country.

CPN(UML) Chairman Jhalnath Khanal has been elected the new Prime Minister of Nepal. An announcement to this effect was made by Speaker Subhash Nemwang in Parliament this evening. Khanal polled 368 votes, exceeding the simple majority of 300 required for his election. Earlier, addressing the parliament, CPN(UML) Chairman Khanal said he will make all efforts to complete the integration of Maoist army into security forces in the next one and half months and drafting of the new constitution within the May 28 dateline. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports, after 16th rounds of failed attempts, Nepal's parliament  finally succeeded in electing a new Prime Minister today.               

The election of CPN(UML) chairman Jhalanath Khanal as the new Prime Minister has brought to an end the seven month long political deadlock in Nepal on formation of the new government. A last minute decision by the standing committee of the main Opposition Unified CPN-Maoist to withdraw its candidate and party Chairman Prachanda from the electoral race in support of Chairman of CPN-UML has paved the way for the election of Khanal to the high office of the Prime Minister. Nepal's parliament began the voting process this evening for a new Prime Minister under a revised election rule.

Food, public distribution and consumer affairs minister Prof K V Thomas has said that the agrarian sector has recorded 4.56 per cent growth during this financial year. Addressing a press conference after the regional conference of food ministers from South India at  Thiruvananthapuram today, he said that the Centre is working on a new market intervention mechanism to contain price rise of essential items.

Highlighting the revival of the agricultural sector Prof K V Thomas said that production in animal husbandry and fisheries sector has doubled during the last five years. He said that more effective market intervention system assisted with latest scientific knowhow will be in place in the near future. Farmer's market will be set up in big cities to ensure reasonable price to their produce and availability of essential items including perishables. The Minister stated under the proposed food security act instead of BPL, APL categories, priority sector and general sector will be introduced. Prof. K.V. Thomas also informed that the center has given in principle approval to south zone consultative committee of food ministers.

Food inflation soared to 17.05 per cent for the week ended the  22nd of January, rising for the second straight week. This follows costlier vegetables, fruits and milk. Food inflation rose by 1.48 percentage points from 15.57 per cent in the previous week. The food inflation last year had stood at 20.56 per cent.

Commenting on rising inflation, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said that the rise in prices of commodities and food items, is a matter of grave concern. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Mukherjee assured that efforts are being made, both from the demand and the supply side, to moderate inflation.

Rising for the second straight session, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange ended with a solid gain of 359 points, or 2 percent, at 18,449, today. The Sensex rose, despite climbing food inflation, on aggressive buying in an oversold market. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange spurted 95 points, or 1.7 percent, to 5,527. The bourses in China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore were closed for a holiday. But the Japanese market dropped 0.3 percent. The rupee strengthened 1 paise, to 45.62 against the dollar.  Gold lost 150 rupees, to 20,100 rupees per ten grams in Delhi.  And crude oil futures gained 77 cents, to 91.63 dollars a barrel on the NYMEX, while Brent crude futures crossed 103 dollars a barrel.

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure today approved setting up of a non-lapsable fund called 'North East Region Rail Development Fund for National Projects in the region. The 25% of the fund will come through Railway Gross Budgetary Support and  75% by Ministry of Finance. The funds to be provided by Ministry of Finance may be allocated at the beginning of the year. This will ensure assured flow of funds for the National Projects so as to complete them in a time-bound manner.

Government today granted over 125 crore rupees to the States of Bihar, Assam, Kerela and Uttar Pradesh under the Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana SJGY. The grants released by Rural  Develpment Ministry will be used for implementation of SJGY in these States in the current financial year. Out of the total, Assam was granted over 51 crore rupees for 21 districts in the State. Uttar Pradesh received over 48 crore rupees for 26 districts. Bihar was given over 16 crore rupees for four districts while Kerala was given over 10 crore rupees. AIR Correspondent reports that the Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana was launched in 1999 to give financial assistance to below poverty line households in rural areas.

Infant Mortality Rate has come down in the country. According to Sample Registration System infant deaths have dropped to Fifty deaths per one thousand live births at national level in 2009. Registrar General of India (today noted that Infant Mortality Rate was fifty three per one thousand in 2008. In rural areas also it declined from 58 to 55 infant deaths per one thousand live births.

The Indo Tibetan Border Police Force, ITBP would conduct fresh exercise for recruitment of tradesman. The paramilitary outfit cancelled  all the registrations done on last Tuesday.  An official spokes person told reporters in Bareilly that the decision has been taken because of the death of 20 aspirants who fell off trains on Tuesday.

Somdev Devvarman and David Martin have stormed into the doubles quarter-finals of the ATP South Africa Tennis Open tournament. At Johannesburg,  the Indo-American pair carved out a 6-3, 6-4 win over Austria's Martin Fischer and Rainer Schuettler of Germany. The winners next face Karo Beck of Slovakia and Dudi Sela of Isreal, who shocked top seeds Dustin Brown of Germany and Dutch Rogier Wassen 6-3 7-5 in their first round of the hard court tournament. Somdev has already booked a quarter-final berth in the singles competition. He will clash against South African Rik de Voest for a place in the semi-finals.

In the Asia Oceania Group I Federation Cup tennis tournament, India today suffered a 1-2 defeat against Uzbekistan. At Nonthaburi in Thailand,  Commonwealth Games bronze medallist pair of Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarthi lost the decisive doubles rubber in three sets 6-2 3-6 3-6  against Nigina Abduraimova and Albina Khabibulina. It is India's second consecutive defeat in Pool A of the event  after losing to China yesterday. To stay in the Group, India will have to win the play-off tie after the group stage.
